As someone who has struggled with acne with legit half my life, this shit SUCKS. It genuinely ruins your self esteem sometimes, and I consider myself someone with pretty high self confidence. Be nice to your friends with it - and try to not pull the usual 'have you tried *insert obvious acne treatment here*' crap either, especially if you dont struggle with it yourself.
penny makes me want to love myself more because confidence looks so good on her she's GLOWING sis somehow even when she's feeling down on herself she does everything with such love and grace
i'm so glad i finally found someone who has the same skin type as me bc every time i would explain it to them they'd say "no only oily skin causes acne" and it would get on my nerves so much. thank you so much for making this video
This is exactly what happened to me. All my teenage years and my adulthood I had no acne at all then 2020 hit and I started getting a lot of acne on both of my cheeks. My self esteem hit rock bottom, I would cry because I didn’t like what I saw. I started going to an esthetician and my skin is looking better. Now I’m just working on the acne scars. Thank you for talking about this and giving us info
So many factors can impact the skin, its not about having perfect skin just really being on a journey of finding out how best to maintain healthy skin; which definitely requires patience :)
I can’t wait for the esthetician or dermatologist video because I am in need of help for my severely dry, red, itchy skin and I would love some info before spending all my money on something I know nothing about.
After suffering from chronic acne for years, I found out that I have a sensitivity to dairy. But while I can't have milk, I can have cheese in moderation (if it's fresh not processed) and greek Yogurt with probiotics. When I minimized my diary intake and upped my probiotic intake, and started using the right skincare for me, my skin cleared up.
Penny thank you for taking one for the team and opening up about your struggles with acne - it really gives me hope that I can beat my cystic acne too. Hope to see more update videos on this topic. Rooting for you and everyone else on their skin care journey! ❤️
I suffered with cystic acne for about 2 years and I tried everything and nothing worked! And YOU are actually reason on how I cleared my skin. I found The Ordinary from you and I tried their products and my skin cleared up so so much! Thank you penny!
Skin problem takes time to cure. I have acne problem too (not severe like penny but still noticeable) and I'm 30 years old. I am under treatment for the past 3 months and now for the first time I'm noticing visible changes. I know it will take minimum 3 more months to get rid of the acne scars completely.
Love this video because I haven’t seen any videos like this from my fellow dry scaly peoples🙌🏻 I used to suffer with cystic acne constantly but what has kept mine away is that I stopped popping my pimples/cysts/anything else and also when I learned that I have dry skin it changed EVERYTHING for me🙌🏻I’ve also learned that certain foods break me out if I over-consume them.
I love her! She’s so honest, cute, and funny. I have bought some of the products she recommends in her past videos and they haven’t let me down. I also have acne and try my best to minimize hyperpigmentation. Today I’m going to ultra beauty to buy the bare minerals foundation she used in her previous video. I want to use clean make up and I think that’s a good start. Thank you Penny, you’re awesome.
Hi Penny! Thanks so much for going in depth with your routine and describing how you deal with adult acne in different facets. I’ve always admired your skin since I was subscribed to you 5 years ago and wish I could also have clearer skin but Ive been dealing with adult acne for the past 2-3 years and always felt like it was my fault for not taking care of myself better. It’s humbling to see that you have the same struggles but have been consistently trying to make yourself feel better inside and out. Will tune to more of your videos 😍🌻
I recently switched to that Bareminerals original powder foundation that you showed, and it is the first foundation I have ever tried that I'm confident isn't breaking me out. The #1 thing that's helping me clear my skin (aside from finally using Differin properly) has been taking a hard look at my makeup.
I used to bully myself for having acne and now I know I will never have perfect skin but loving and caring for myself and my skin have made my acne and my feelings about my acne so much better
Thank you Penny! I struggle a lot of with hormonal/cystic acne and only spiro has helped. :/ I cut out a lot of things and used super safe products and are better (no dairy, coffee, less sugar/processed carbs). But none of it helped. I felt like it only got worse when I started working as a cna. It caused a lot of stress and sleep deprivation. I feel like my job and life changes is what triggered it the most....
I see a high frequency machine!! Beauty therapist student here. Love this video :D Cant wait to see a more in depth video. As I'm only a student still, I love learning more and I can't wait to hear about your experience.
THANK YOU PENNY!!!! I also have dry skin and have been suffering from deep, painful acne for the last few years. I have been using benzoyl peroxide and adapalene and it’s been helping a lot ❤️
I had cystic acne and I changed my diet and it went away, and my diet was actually already healthy. Gut health and stress is a huge contribution to the health of our hair skin and nails.
Your such an inspiration to me , I really struggle with getting down on myself with acne but watching you makes me feel a lot more compassionate towards myself. I aspire to have the confidence as self love you do . Your honestly my favourite RUclipsr girl you are amazing inside out♥️
I was on the bc pill for five years and it cleared my skin, but once i went off of it, my acne came roaring back with a vengeance!! And now my acne is worse than it ever was but this video is super helpful thanks penny!
tip for mandelic acid: u can use it as deodorant. it kills the bacteria that causes ur sweat to smell bad so u can use it on your underarms and when u sweat ur sweat won’t smell like anything. it’s the active ingredient in a lot of natural deodorants (i think the drunk elephant one uses it?), i use the one from the ordinary and it has lasted months
I had clear skin for the longest time and then when I hit 18 I suddenly started getting tons over my hairline, cheeks, chin and forehead. As someone who typically never cares about my appearance it was a bit of a shock to feel so low about it. I try not be self conscious about if but it's hard sometimes. And it hurts! Like a lot. I thought I was just lucky to not have anything but nope it was just waiting until I was supposedly out of my teens...😩 This video is really helpful and it's given me a bit to think about. My acne is sometimes bad, sometimes nonexistent. I remember back at my last REALLY bad breakout, I thought “if i had clear skin I’d LOVE my face” and then… bam, i had clear skin, and I just found more things to hate. Now that I have acne again, I don’t really mind it so much because I KNOW that i’ll just find something else to dislike about the way i look without it haha! Focus on body neutrality. I have lots of freckles-why are those considered “cute” but my acne isn’t?
Thank you so much for all this info! I watched the whole thing and was happy to see that we both use first aid beauty products :) Can't wait to hear your advice on aestheticians/dermatologists!
For anyone who can’t seem to stop their acne with any products. Just try not using anything at all. I cut off using ALL products on my face and just used water to wash it in the morning and before bed and after a month my acne started to clear up by itself and heal. So like sometimes your skincare products are the issue and not your skin.
I'm actually really looking forward to your video on esteticians! I've only been to the derm and am currently on accutane, but I want to try going to a clinic after my course to get help for the scarring and hypermigmentation
Thank you so much❤ I just recently started getting really painful acne, something I have never had for years. I continued my usual routine but none of those help. Its so painful and is all over my face. Again, this is totally new for me and is really heart breaking. Thank you do much for this video Penny!
wow, this video was awesome. i love how well you spoke and informed you are. I just love a good presentation video, lol. And all the pictures. Gonna try some stuff! Very cool tips. Thank you! just subbed!
Benzoyl peroxide only treats the symptoms and doesn’t clear the acne long term. Your body actually gets use to it after a while. I used it for years and then it stopped working. And let me tell you, pimple city. After getting off of it I had a horrible break out which to me was telling me my body was depending on it. And I have damage from it. I recommend Tretinoin personally. You have to get a prescription for it but it helps with aging and acne. The great thing with it is that it retrains the skin to operate correctly. Some acne is due to cells being overactive and the tretinoin fixes it. But keep in mind it doesn’t happen over night, it can take months, but the results are great. Also I am a dietitian, and I will say that most of these food intolerance tests are unreliable. I am not sure which one your doctor had you do but in the nutrition field we generally only use allergy tests and not intolerance tests bc your intolerance test can show different results on different days. Because of this we normally do an elimination diet instead. In my professional opinion it is the best option in determining if a food is causing your acne. The elimination diet is ideal way to find out. But most people don’t want to do this diet because it is extreme. But the truth is even in pediatrics we sometimes have to use this diet because the other tests are just not reliable when it comes to intolerance. I know you may not think it’s from your diet but I want to remind you that cystic acne starts from within the body, not at the surface. It also can take up to 72 hours before the food you eat can show up as acne on your face. I say keep it simple, I have had cystic acne and have helped many clients with it. It boils down to a simple face routine with a mild cleanser, acne treatment( retinoids based like tretinoin), and moisturizers. The extras are not needed and can actually can cause more damage. Also a clean diet low in inflammatory foods but ideally designed for you after you find what causes a flair up. Yes hair products, make up and other lotions can cause acne too, but other than these things that’s all you need. You can message me if you need more advice. The fact you still get flare ups indicates the problem is not fixed and you are only treating the symptoms. Remember some people profit from you having acne, I want every one to know they can be acne free. Also check out Dr.Dray on RUclips, she has a lot of great educational videos on it.
Loved this video! Which doctor gave you the food intolerance test? Was it a primary care physician or a specialist? I’ve been wanting to do one for so long!
I’m pretty sure I also had cystic acne and I hated it. I’m currently dealing with PIE, I have the red acne marks left from the pimples and cysts I had. I have been using the Cerave Benxoyl Peroxide 4% acne treatment for almost a month now and it cleared up a lot of the pimples I had. I only use the cleanser but I have combination skin and I still have blackheads on my oily nose that I’m not really sure how to take care. I use the Cerave Salicylic Acid once a day. Acne really ruined my self esteem but now I’m starting to realize that it’s literally all gone and now I just have to figure out how to clear up my PIE marks
Omg Penny I had the same problem that all started during the pandemic and my skin has only scars and hyperpigmentation so thank you for making this video I will have to try some of these products love you !!!❤️
Me too, I started my journey in late November 2020 with my Dr. If I knew all I needed was Benzolyn Peroxide wash, instead of Salicylic acid wash I wouldve saved so much money
Same! Dry skin and cystic acne! I am currently on minocyline and thats helped me along with succinc acid but it i still have some active acne and a bunch of hyper pigmentation and its been so hard to find stuff given I have dry skin and everything seems to be made for oily skin
In one video I watched you used a washcloth to clean your face. I don’t know if it was this one or not but I’m wondering what type of washcloth you use. It may have been the Kyle Jenner one. Anyway, just found you and love you vids!
