Nobody thinks that. We do think we should take responsibility for the welfare of other peoples than our own, should protect them if they need protection from their own countries. So yes, borders should be guarded, but those fleeing prosecution, disease, or severe economic hardship deserve our help. It's not their fault they were born where they were born.
Toon Holman there is people that protest for no borders at all I’m not saying you do or everyone does but there is a pretty large number of Americans that do I to think we should help people but we have a lot of our own that need help first and if they come they should have to do it legally and go threw the screenings and legal borders crossings

Thank you for this video! I'm Moroccan and I do believe that this subject doesn't get the attention it deserves. Today numerous migrants abandoned the idea of crossing the borders to Europe and decided to settle down in Morocco as the country is experiencing a steady growth. In 2013, Morocco has launched a new migration policy to facilitate the naturalization of migrants and help them settle down in the country. However, since 2013, 2 of the 3 main reforms haven't been adopted yet and are still considered as Law projects ...furthermore my country still didn't agree on a readmission agreement with the EU commission, because Moroccan politicians don't want to be legally bound to readmit migrants from other countries. Lastly, this migration crisis is used by Moroccan authorities as a trump card to press on the Spanish authorities and the EU for settling down the Sahara conflict with Algeria and get more funds from the EU.
But why do they have to risk death going to Europe? There are many neighboring nations that would likely take them in and that aren't in conflict. Most of them aren't fleeing from war but rather are economic migrants.
+Isais Madrid Madrid Because the quality of living is much higher in Europe, they take advantage of government aid, and then get to enjoy a society neither them nor their ancestors had any part in building.
I think we've shed light to every corner regarding illegal immigration, but not enough light to the reason what drove them to force themselves into the continent in the first place.
I agree with you 100% because the thing behind the thing is the real thing. For the umpteenth time, let the Europeans stop stealing Africa's resources or sending weapons of mass destruction that cause wars in Africa or at the very least let the West stop meddling in the affairs of African countries. The day that the West stops all that is the day the Africans will stop climbing over those fences.
THANK YOU. I came here to post this. With this logic, St. Pierre and Miquelon are also Europe... which is clearly not the case. This story is about territory of a European country in Africa.
Currently Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe, as well as a deficit problem in its budget. It is literally impossible to grant inmigrants good living conditions. Most of them end up involved in ilegal activities such as drug trafficking. As we can see in the video, the ones who try to jump the fence belong to the young part of the population; by fleeing their homeland in search of a better life they end up compromising their own country's future.
Here we can't deal with Spanish people without a job, so imagine how it would be with immigrants. First of all, we have to solve all our problems(mass corruption, debt, unemployment, etc etc)then, just then, and maybe, we could help those poor people. But it would be a better solution to solve the problems they have in their contries.
A great comment. Someone who finally understands the whole situation, and doesn't resort to insulting and being racist. Someone who considers all of the facts. As said already, this deserves to be much higher up in the comments.

What I don't understand - and this sounds heartless but I mean it in good faith - is why they can't just stay in Morocco? Since they're not in danger of being deported and there's no war over there, why do they need to get to Spain? And yeah sure, for a better life I understand that, but in that case why does it matter if they're coming from a war torn country or a peaceful but dirt poor country? It just doesn't make sense to me.
I think this is a good argument to make. I have often wondered that as well. I don't want to diminish the plight of these people - but is there something stopping them from working in Morocco? Also globally - I think we need to end the sham of "Work permission" -- why should anybody decide if a person is allowed to work - if they are qualified for a job - they should just get it!
Morocco simply can't deal with the massive influx of immigrants, either. What happens right now is that they receive large aid packages from Europe of all sorts - money to build and maintain the fences, to train police, to adopt new technologies, to feed the Sub-Saharan immigrants, etc. This means that Morocco can employ more of their people and keep the Sub-Saharans moderately fed, but only as long as the EU sees a value in doing so. Basically, if Morocco gives these people any sort of legal recognition, the country would implode - there'd suddenly be thousands of homeless, unemployed Sub-Saharans that instead of being in a limbo, would become Morocco's problem. And then, the EU could easily wash their hands and leave them stranded with this massive problem. Europe doesn't want them, and Morocco only wants them as long as they're undocumented and trying to cross over.
I live in morocco, and the thing is,a lot of them chose to stay here, those who really just want peace and to look for a job to provide for their famillies do stay, those you see in the video are just chasing the eu dream, what Briss said is also true ,there are some benefits that they can get in Europe that they cant get here..
Maybe the youth unemployment rate of 20% might be a hint why Moroccans want to leave their country...or the extremely tense situation of the West Saharan conflict. All just thoughts.
Spain is just protecting their own border and I think that's completely justified. If someone were trying to break into my home, I would do whatever it takes to protect my property.

After a little Google search: “Several studies have shown that most African migrations are not directed towards Europe, but towards other African countries (Schoumaker et al., 2015; Sander & Maimbo, 2003) and that those moving out of Africa do not only move to Europe but also to the Gulf countries and the Americas (Bakewell & De Haas, 2007).” “Contradicting common idea that African emigration is essentially about irregular movement, previous research has suggested that most Africans migrate out of the continent in possession of valid passports, visas and other travel documentation (cf. Schoorl et al. 2000, Heering, Esveldt, Groenewold, van der Erf, Bosch, de Valk, and de Bruijn, 2000). More generally, recent scholarship has started to question the implicit assumption that African migration is ‘exceptional’ and essentially different from migration elsewhere. More and more micro-evidence emerges indicating that most Africans migrate for family, work or study (Schoumaker et al., 2015) (Bakewell & Jόnsson, 2011), as is the case in other world regions.” I always do a little Google search for my own sanity after watching western news/documentaries these days.
Yes... that is the European Union law but this does not determine if they are free. They are held in camps in Europe or elsewhere until they are approved. People are in camps from years, some are lucky and less. It depends on the countries intake.
The laws were written by people who had to seek refuge whenthey were targeted because they were jews or who fled the wars in europe. Because of this they put laws in place that made sure others would find refuge aswell when they were in a similar position...
Mass immigration is just a short term solution for the immigrants, with terrible consequences for Europe. Without development in Africa, this will keep on going forever. Neo colonialism and corruption is the problem, and as soon as those two things are gone, protected borders won't be as necessary.
Correction for grammar/spelling It is a universally understood right of sovereign nations to defend their own boarders. Umm, he didn't mess up too bad.

I don't think this issue is all black and white. You can't blame Spain for fortifying their borders with all the recent violence within Europe. Spanish government has its duty to protect its citizens and regulate illegal immigrants.
Spain is failing at even keeping its own country together. They have a massive crisis of corruption, unemployment (especially youth unemployment), a rigged educational system and many people who want their regions to be autonomous. I'm not saying they should let in all immigrants, but I disagree with the statement that the Spanish government is just protecting Spanish citizens, because it fails SO HARD at treating them right.
i'am a moroccan and the violence made by the white are at least 10 time more than the affrican so don't say that when they get there they will kill and steal and .... , if you'r country is in war and its getting worst every day why can't you live in a better place ?
I'm not saying that all the immigrants who enter other nations are involved with crime. I'm saying that Spain has a right and sovereignty to fortify its borders and regulate illegal immigrants. Still, I agree that use of violence currently taking place at the borders is unacceptable.
Hard Work now wait, let's think for a second. You said that Spain is failing right. Now WHAT if THOSE IMMIGRANTS enter spain ILLEGALLY with no permission. Doesn't just add more work to the already failing Spain ?
No they are paying for a service, how is that bribing?? You think it's free to protect that border, you think it costs nothing to put that fence up, you think it's free to pay the soldiers and police to protect that border. Morocco aren't spending their dime to do something Spain has asked them to do.
I kinda feel like Europe and Moroccan are being portrait In a bad light here. Here’s just a quick reminder that Europe and Morocco are not the bad guys.
When you say that Europe and Morocco are not "the" bad guys it sounds like you think the refugees and asylum seekers are the bad guys. Do you have no sympathy for the guy who said that he was fleeing boko haram, the jihadi terrorist organization that among various other crimes against humanity, kidnaps, trains and kills children? These people are being killed for crossing a border unlawfully, what would it take for you to risk your life to cross a border? If you were plopped down in sub-saharan africa without any papers or money and being persecuted, would you try to escape persecution or get somewhere where you believe you can prosper?
Europe and Morocco are exactly the bad guys! The whole reason these desperate people are willing to risk their lives to cross the border is because making the 100m dash to the "immigration center" on the other side means safety. Europe and Morocco's policies created this mess. Why is the dude who got beat by a nail bat and stabbed in the neck still trying to find a way in? The whole situation feels like a video game, like a life-or-death level of Super Mario, and it all started because of boko haram and other terrorist groups started making life miserable for the people. Stop the wars, and you stop the migration crisis. If Europe and Morocco really wanted to stop the problem, why doesn't Spain just give Melilla back to Morocco and treat it like any other Moroccan city? Or remove the immigration center safe haven, which also removes the incentive for people to jump the death wall. Instead, they spend vast resources on building and reinforcing a silly wall, using police to bully the desperate people, and using short-term fixes like shipping them to far away cities. None of these tactics really address the underlying problem
They are not Moroccans, they are subsaharans, they cross north african countries to get to Europe. let me guess. you are american? LoL. thats why your comment show how ignorant about the world you are.
Tomy Ray Spain is a shithole, just take a look at your countries economy and stability that will only worsen as time goes on with your feminist socialist government, not to mention how much worse it will get with the upcoming civil war(s) Africa is much worse than Spain obviously, but why compare a somewhat first world country to third world? Most of the immigrants from Africa go to Spain not to stay in Spain but to get to other places in Europe such as France Denmark Sweden ETC
Tomy Ray just thanks to the EU. Before joining the EU Spain was a shithole. Spain is more like Greece (actually Greece was better before joining the EU) or any other eastern european country in the EU. Not all countries benefited from the EU, such as Italy and it all because of those poor countries like Spain, who joined.
Tomy Ray I said before joining the EU. I live in Italy. Like 20 years ago there were no unemployment issues, now the situation is very bad. If you lose your job it might take you a year or more to find a new one and as I always knew Italy is far more richer than Spain. So if Italy is ruined, I am trying to imagine how is the situation in Spain. And I said Spanish was a shithole before joining the EU not now. Some countries benefit from joining the EU, others get worse, the case of Italy! Also a lot of spaniards (polish and italians as well) migrated to the UK and that’s one of the reasons brexit is happening. If it is a rich country to live in, nobody would have left for UK. There are some spaniards migrants in Morocco too and no they’re not bringing jobs, they are actually taking jobs from locals. Those who bring jobs are mostly italians and french.
its kinda like the Central America/Mexico/US Border. Spain is paying Morocco to keep Africans out. Just like America is paying Mexico to keep Central Americans out
They blame racism, but don't tell you that the migrants seen climbing fences can also apply for asylum at the border just like the Syrian refugees. The reason they don't is because either they don't want to go through the process and wait, and just want land feet at one of the refugee centers and then they can stay, or because they know they will be denied, as they aren't from a war torn country, aren't being oppressed etc
I am Spanish and the borders in Melilla and Ceuta have always been a problem. The current situation is wrong because so many africans are suffering, but you cant simply open the borders of Europe to everyone who wants to enter. It is a very complex situation because it not only depends on Spain's interests but also on all the other nations of the EU. The only solution i can think of is to discourage people from illegally crossing the border and promote more legal asylum policies. But without the collaboration of the EU that is impossible.
@@freewal first, Ceuta and Melilla are not colonies, they are autonomous cities with representation in the Spanish Congress and second, Morocco has no justified rights over the Sahara area, they invaded it and annexed it without doing a referendum in there. Get your facts straight please.

I think that what a lot of people fail to realize it’s that both cities do not feel Moroccan nor do they want to leave Morocco. In the 18th century, Gibraltar was conquered by the British and since then it’s been British. They do not feel Spanish, they don’t wanna be Spanish. Ceuta was conquered by the Portuguese back in 1415 and had been a very turbulent area since forever. One of the things about being strategically important is that you’ll change hands a lot through history. Essentially it had been a “Moroccan” (as in controlled by what is today Modern-day Morocco) city for (non-consecutively) 200 years, but if we take the amount of time it was hold by the Visigoths of Spain and the different Spanish Taifas, it gets to roughly the same amount. Finally, if we take the actual time it’s been under Spain herself, it’s around 382 years, plus the time it was under Portugal’s and Iberian’s (former+latter) influence. Melilla was actually (as a city) under Moroccan influence by quite more time, little over 300 years. Since then, by Spain herself for 500+ years. It doesn’t matter whhere they are, but rather what their inhabitants feel like.
@@uzumaki2466 Only in Moroccan fantasies did Morocco exist before the 20th century almost like claiming Roman Hispania was Spain. Anyhow Ceuta and Melilla are not yours and never will be and even the UN does not consider these lands colonies unlike the situation with the Saharahui people .
Yeah classic west, let's blame Arabs. You mean Arabs begged the west to sell them slaves ? wasn't it Europeans who paid for it and asked for it. It's exactly the same situation as Spain Morocco borders. Europe pays Morocco to do its dirty work for them. (Almost like let's build a wall and make Mexico pay for it).
Even if Europeans slaved Africans, it's not a reason why Africa is poor. Europe faced in its history extremely high dangerous from antique to modern. Persians, Huns, Mongols, Black death, inner wars like 30 years war, I and II world war... Cold war... Not only Africans faced their troubles, Europeans had faced perhaps much more terrible events than Africans slavery and exploitation. The difference is in the mentality between Africans and Europeans. Europe always tries to rebuild itself, and strive for the future, when Africans are sitting on their asses. Compare Europe to Africa before slavery. You will see that Europeans aren't the reason of poverty in Africa.
You must have a lot of endurance to be able to cross the Sahara, cross that boarder, cross the Mediterranean sea into Europe, all while avoiding capture.
They have a dream kind of illusion in that Europe is a nice place where they will have like a perfect life. So as long as they have this in mind they are not going to notice other opportunities
Don't say bullshit and think it'll magically turn to a fact. The biggest racism issues are always related to Europe. If you're ancestors didn't steal from Africa they wouldn't have been fleeing now their countries, and you wouldn't have put Morocco in such bad situation.

Well maybe because the border is in wrong continent? Ever thought of that?🤨
@@historiand9473 Spain didn't colonize these countries.
I would also remark that most of these immigrants use Spain as a way to go to France or England.

@@oblivion2755 Spain owns land in Morocco it does
What I don't understand - and this sounds heartless but I mean it in good faith - is why they can't just stay in Morocco?
It's a lower youth unemployment rate than Spain, though.

After a little Google search:
“Several studies have shown that most African migrations are not directed towards Europe, but towards other African countries (Schoumaker et al., 2015; Sander & Maimbo, 2003) and that those moving out of Africa do not only move to Europe but also to the Gulf countries and the Americas (Bakewell & De Haas, 2007).”
“Contradicting common idea that African emigration is essentially about irregular movement, previous research has suggested that most Africans migrate out of the continent in possession of valid passports, visas and other travel documentation (cf. More and more micro-evidence emerges indicating that most Africans migrate for family, work or study (Schoumaker et al., 2015) (Bakewell & Jόnsson, 2011), as is the case in other world regions.”
I always do a little Google search for my own sanity after watching western news/documentaries these days.

I kinda feel like Europe and Moroccan are being portrait In a bad light here. Here’s just a quick reminder that Europe and Morocco are not the bad guys.
Exactly
Exactly
That's Vox for you...
It's Spain's democratic right to not let them in.
And Morroco's democratic right to let them crossing.
They are not Moroccans, they are subsaharans, they cross north african countries to get to Europe. let me guess. you are american? LoL. thats why your comment show how ignorant about the world you are.
Tomy Ray Spain is a shithole, just take a look at your countries economy and stability that will only worsen as time goes on with your feminist socialist government, not to mention how much worse it will get with the upcoming civil war(s)
Africa is much worse than Spain obviously, but why compare a somewhat first world country to third world?

José Haber NOT ALL africans just the ones from morocco which i’m only one country out of so many.
America is literally the continent tho
They blame racism, but don't tell you that the migrants seen climbing fences can also apply for asylum at the border just like the Syrian refugees. The reason they don't is because either they don't want to go through the process and wait, and just want land feet at one of the refugee centers and then they can stay, or because they know they will be denied, as they aren't from a war torn country, aren't being oppressed etc
That's not true for everyone whatsoever

Did you not watch the video? Did you not hear the educated comments?
I am Spanish and the borders in Melilla and Ceuta have always been a problem. The current situation is wrong because so many africans are suffering, but you cant simply open the borders of Europe to everyone who wants to enter. It is a very complex situation because it not only depends on Spain's interests but also on all the other nations of the EU. The only solution i can think of is to discourage people from illegally crossing the border and promote more legal asylum policies. But without the collaboration of the EU that is impossible.

Well if European ancestors didn't steal everything from Africa, Maybe the situation would have been very different.
Anass Talai it wasn’t just Europeans. In fact it was mostly Arabs, they ran the trade routes and the slave trade.
many would argue that it would be a worse place than it is today... south africa is not safe, zimbabwe is becoming poor.

The problem is that Spain cannot absorb all the thousands of people coming from the African continent and people from other countries as well.
