- At least 49 people have been killed and 20 seriously injured after gunmen opened fire in two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch, a coordinated and unprecedented attack that has shocked the usually peaceful nation.
New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called the incident a terrorist attack in a press conference, saying the suspects held "extremist views" that have no place in New Zealand or the world.

I've lived in New Zealand my entire life, and watching the news yesterday with my mum was both disheartening and horrifying, I've never been so shocked and disgusted in my entire life that something so horrible would happen in the country I love but I suppose hate has always managed to creep itself to all parts of the world. I always knew that our country had it's faults (what place doesn't) but we've always managed to maintain a safe environment a majority of the time and this event has shook everyone I know that lives here to the core, this is not the New Zealand that we know, race does not divide our people and we do not take innocent lives and yet we have been subjected to a Terrorist attack.
The innocent muslim victims murdered were New Zealanders, they were apart of our country and our people. And the perpetrators responsible have no place in our society. Just as our PM said "We are a proud nation of more than 200 ethnicities, 160 languages, and amongst that diversity we share common values and the one that we place the currency on right now and tonight is our compassion and the support for the community of those directly affected by this tragedy. And secondly the strongest possible condemnation of the ideology of the people who did this, you may have chosen us but we utterly reject and condemn you."
