Soooo much bass goodness here! A classic Geoff with those tight harmonies. I think I need to rewatch to make sure I full understand why you don't mess around with Jim!

Geoff's version of this. Jim Croce wrote this back in 1972, just a before he died in a plane crash. Lord the man could write.
yay!! looking forward to this one, Jen's reactions are always awesome! got my like in already, because ofc I'll enjoy watching it! ❤❤
As I have always been a huge Jim Croce fan I approve this awesome reimagining of this classic story song.
Thank you for mentioning the “McCoy” run, at least in text! It’s so CLEAN and no one is talking about it! Geoff’s riffs are just getting better and better over the years 😌
Yes! Heard it and definitely had to mention/write it because WOAH!
There's also a half-step slide down on the word "come" from the line, "big and dumb as a man can come" that no one seems to notice as well
Fr! For his first practice being in Tennessee Whiskey, to now, GOOD LORD THAT IMPROVEMENT. And he was pretty good then. But now, the level of skill is so tight now.
Whoa!
I watch every Geoff / Voiceplay / Home Free reaction, so I have seen the legend of #BassJen evolve in real time...and that was definitely the bassiest yet!
🤘🏼🤘🏼 slowly but surely hahah!
All of Geonn's favorites,
HMMM's
Stomps & Claps
tank tops (black)
Hand movements
......
Definitely check out the version by Jim Croce, too. Great song.
I have heard the original of this song and Geoff adds his own twist to it that makes it totally his. His low notes still vibrate my bones. Another great reaction and analysis again Jen
Thank you!
I am a bass singer myself and I’m not joking there was a split second where you actually hit that subharmonic Jen! Wow
Woooo!🙌🏼
Geoff Castellucci !! 😍👍
A geoff castellucci cover analysis on my birthday? Awww jen you shouldnt have 😊
My birthday too. Happy birthday 🎂
Came for the analysis, stayed for the ARMS. Lawd.
I don’t know if you know this or not, but his wife has actually started cutting the sleeves off his costumes for us. She’s so good to us, lol
@@Gael4ce Kathy out here doing the Lawds work.
@@ashbii7632 Yes. Yes she is. The woman is an absolute saint!
@@Gael4ce And she gets to see them up close and personal. Lucky lady. So glad she shares.
Since she's listening to a song by Jim Croce, I think she needs to check out "Operator". It might make her cry.
I've heard Operator at least a thousand times (I'm old), and I cry every time.
My favorite is Time In A Bottle
@johnkidwell3932 Also a great song.
Remember when all three of these were released by Croce, recommend all of them to anyone who missed them to begin with.
@coletedeux "Operator", "Time In A Bottle", and "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" are the only three I've heard in their entirety. "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "I Got A Name" are on my radar.
Geoff thought the original, despite being about a deadly fight in a 42nd Street pool hall in NYC, was very bright and bouncy, so he "darkened" it down a little. He really enjoyed the scatting in the middle of the song, so he moved it to the end to close things out. This was filmed by Geoff and Kathy with at "a random studio in Orlando" as the PattyCake Production's studio was busy. This video was fueled by peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Their golden retriever's name is Thomas the Moose aka Tommy. He's a rescue they were fostering and decided to give him a forever home. He is absolutely devoted to Geoff and follows him everywhere, including into the recording studio.
I love watching you enjoy Geoff's latest masterpiece.
It is evident that Geoff is working to make the clones' movement to be individual and not in unison.
I love (and came here for) the expert vocal analysis. Geoff's vocals are fantastic and I learned a bunch. However, Jim Croce was a superb song writer and master storyteller. As a result, I found myself repeatedly saying "Pay attention to the story Jen." Hope you got the full story with your second listen.
Another great reaction and analysis, Jenn. I always love your reactions, not just for the analysis, but because you make me smile and laugh as well. A nice way to start my day.
Jennifer! Well I have my headphones on and Geoff is singing so I guess let's get ready to rumble! 😁 You Don't Mess Around with Jim ... one from my day, 1972 from Jim Croce. Maybe we could sing it as You Don't Mess Around with Jen! 😂 Well Geoff didn't disappoint with this one, lots of rumbling. And you're out of practice! Still, great reaction and analysis as always Jen. Oh, others are suggesting other Jim Croce songs ... my vote would be Time In A Bottle as it was the theme for my high school senior prom, uh, a few years back. 😁
Thanks Jen!
Looking forward to this one. You always give a great analysis and I know I will enjoy listening to you attempt all Geoffs low notes too 😁. Lets go Hermione..... I mean Jen 😉.
Ah thank you!
This will be a great birthday present. Can't wait. Thank you Jen for doing this today ☺️
This was a song my dad loved. He had a Jim Croce record with "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Time in a Bottle," which was one of my mother's favorite songs. It was one of the few times they agreed on music, haha! Great reaction, Jen. I love your insight. Just so you know, I've been recommending your songs to friends. Hopefully bringing in some fans for you. You deserve it!
Love ya, Jen! Once again your honest from the heart reactions ae priceless. And your analysis on the vocals is so educational. By far my favorite reactor. ❤
Oh thank you!
Hello Jen, I am looking forward to hearing your comments on Geoff Castellucci’s new video.Which is called I See Fire.
I've been waiting for one of my favorite a cappella groups to do some Jim Croce. Close enough. Love the stompin'.
As always, a pleasure to take part of your R&A.
Hi Jennifer hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤
Interesting to see how your low note attempts have gotten better over the years!
Geoff is one of my favorites
I love watching your R&As on Geoff and Voiceplay's videos. The content is educational, and your expressions are priceless. Thanks for always brightening my day and adding to my listening experience with your channel! ✌️❤️🎶
Jim Croce left us way too soon with a solid catalog of original songs. So glad Geoff brought one of Croce's best to the attention of a new generation of would be fans. Thank you, Jenn for reacting to this memory of my teen years.
Excellent. Thanks for your R & A. Your low voice attempts are better all the time. 😂
Geoff is good but Jim Croce who wrote this song and 100's of others was a master songwriter that died way too soon. You should experience his catalog.
hear hear! Bad Bad Leroy Brown, Operator, Car Wash Blues, and if you are feeling totally goofy.... Roller Derby Queen (Round and Round) 😅
@@arthurplane9682 Absolutely. I'll Have to Say I Love You In a Song. Time in a Bottle. A genius songwriter gone far too soon.
Love your reactions and analysis! Thank you!
:) :0 😂 STOP IT JEN! You make it difficult for me to be a grumpy old curmudgeon! Grumpy old curmudgeons aren't supposed to laugh but your facial expressions ( and you are the undisputed queen ) and low note attempts always make me laugh! STOP IT!!! Just kidding. Don't stop! Blessings!
Haha I won’t stop 😁
Cool analysis and great work on reaching down for the growl(other octave..but...cool). Always entertaining to watch🎉😂😂😂🎉
First time here and fall in love with your reaction 😂
Thanks for the video, Jen...well done.
Great reaction and analysis, Jen!! As usual!
Loved your reactanalysis as always!
Great insights as always Jen, loving the bass practice 😀
Haha thank you!
I’d pay to listen to Geoff read the phone book
I'd pay to WATCH him read the phone book.
12:10! that's great! I love it.
I love your eyes
It's just such fun and those tight harmonies are a ear fest!
Yay!
Excellent!
❤
Love this one Jenn! Enjoyed your sub attempts as well! Listen back! You’re getting close! It almost sounds like a Johnny Cash song, not sure who the writer was but similar to Johnny’ s story songs like Sue! Enjoyed the breakdown girl, maybe you can place some of those subs in a new release or two! 😂! Low bass Kenneth
Haha imagine!! Gonna have to figure something out!!
This song was originally by Jim Croce in 1972.
9:51 a slide into an E1 *chest* (literally the same note as 11:31)😭
The lowest chest note ive actually heard is a C#1 and the last time i heard an E1 was flipping Eric Holloway
Need me some Sydnie Christmas on here. Her audition of Tomorrow and My Way, semi-finals performances!!!! BGT 2024!!!!!!!
You need to check out Jim Croce. His songs -- I'll have to say I love you in a song, Time in a bottle, and Bad Bad Leroy Brown are classics
A Jim Croce song
Because Jen --- commonsens-ical stuffs..... Ya don't tug on Superman's Cape! Ya don't spit into the wind! Ya don't pull the mask off the 'Ol Lone Ranger! And ya DON'T mess around with Jim (Slim).... Simply put, it's a choice --- it might just be yer last ........ So don't do it! : ) And might add --- Geoff's solo stuffs!!! : ) Be Safe
I love this song, but in my opinion, it is the MOST mistitled song. Jim dies and Slim wins. People tend to forget that part. I wouldn't mess around with Slim. Nice Post.
But changing the title would give away the twist ending!
@@DennisKovacich Yeah, but imagine hearing it thinking "they're messing up words", and then hearing Slim at the end. Everyone would say "Oh, that makes sense now". People would get it. But, I'm no Jim Croce now, am I. (Not a question. LOL)
I think a big reason I so enjoy this song is precisely because 'Slim' is underestimated by the crowd and Jim and that is probably what causes 'Jim's' downfall.
Speaking of that underestimation - thanks Jen for pointing out the use Geoff makes of brightness in voicing 'Slim'. I knew it was a higher range and it did sound different to me, but I didn't see why it was different. I feel that difference gives us a 'Slim' that feels a bit younger and possibly naive - hence the Chorus comes back with "Everybody says Jack..." where we see that underestimation begins. This was much less apparent in the original, as Croce sang the song in the same voice the whole way through. He was more of the storyteller as opposed to Geoff's portrayal of 'Slim' and the Crowd that witnessed the fight.
