I've heard this song hundreds of times over the last 50 yrs and it still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. Here's to Van, one of Ireland's favourite sons.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. So calming, yet invigorating ,as only Van the man does so well. This song is going to be played when i finally go home, happily, without fear, into that mystic.
This man, Van Morrison, creates a spiritual event within me every time he sings. I have heard this song a thousand times, all intentionally. I hope to hear it a thousand more. And each and every time, I am sure it will affect me the same way.
I was blessed to see Van last September 2023 with my daughter whose 32 and been a fan since she was a very young. We were not expecting him to play this song, so when he started Into the Mystic towards the end of concert we about lost it. He went onto performing a beautiful version of one of our favorite songs ever. It was a wonderful show and a beautiful night. Van is still bringing it in his late 7Os. That night he definitely gave his best. It wasn't our first time seeing him but our favorite.
My precious eldest child, Kaitlyn, took it upon herself to learn the sax line of this song at 11 years old, and played it for me as a surprise on my birthday. I don't know if I was more touched by her beautiful thoughtful gift, or by the fact that the miraculous Van Morrison existed and resonated in their young lives. A truer gift to the world of music has never existed.
I'm blown away, I didn't expect you to read here what I wrote, or to enjoy it so much 🥰 I'm touched and honored. Of course, it's easy to suggest when a song as wonderful as this is available. You're right about death, when that foghorn whistle blows! Some also think the song is about sex. They have a lot in common, if you think it over. Thank you Harri!!
Many things to maya .. requesting this song.. a new Harri for the reaction and being so humble that you will always have time for us. This is my all-time favorite song 💯🎼💟
Van Morrison is just like St. Patricks day. Just listening to him, and everyone instantly becomes Irish, wandering the rolling green hills, hearing the sea in the distance and the smell of fish and chips in the air. His voice and emotive qualities transport the listener into the heart of county Cork.
A friend of ours loved this song, and when he passed away, another friend put together a video with pictures of him hanging out with friends and family, and used this song in the video.
Van Morrison is a genius. His arrangements are fantastic, and his vocals are superb. He is one of my favorite musicians. He worked with some amazing session musicians. The bassline in this one is something else....
This song is amazing. I had the great honor of seeing Van Morrison in the 70’s when he came to Boston and he is mesmerizing. I nearly melted when he did this song. It was a great show. Thanks Harri and Maya. 🌺✌️
From the 1970 album, "Moondance", this is one of Van's most beautiful songs, a song of such elementary beauty and grace as to stand arguably as the quintessential Morrison moment. The horns, the bassline, the cello playing a low vibrato note to mimic the fog horn, Van's excellent vocals, in collaboration with the perfect addition of instruments, for a soulful groove, with every note pure magic. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Maya👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦 If this is the night for requests, as a 2 year Bestie, I would love for you to hear JR Walker and The All Stars playing " What Does It Take" To Win Your Love. You'll love it. Thanks Harri.❤
That may well be my favorite Van song - which is saying a lot because he has so many wonderful tunes. An awful lot of folks have covered Into the Mystic. Some do it pretty well but nobody equals Van.
I always think it's about death and acceptance as well. The song alone, due to Van's voice and the beautiful music his songs always have, makes me feel at peace. It reminds me of Lord of the Rings when Frodo and the Elves leave on the boats (I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it).
There are hundreds of singers and groups I love listening to and literally thousands of songs but Van Morrison will always be my all time favourite. His music is the most spiritual sounding I’ve ever heard and he has so many amazing songs of which this is definitely up there.
Joyous stuff. Almost anthemic and so spiritual... I love Van and my all time fav song, without exception, is Madam George on the Astral Weeks album.. Its a masterpiece Van is a musicians musician.. A rare talent and timeless
Absolutely every song you react to becomes automatically more wonderful when I watch you. This is the song my friend and her husband danced to at their wedding. It is delicious.
Great letter. Thanks Mia. Can't tell you how many times this tune has taken me into it. And here we go again. .. Oh my. There are live versions out there... Great reaction. Thanks.
This is one of the greatest songs ever. So glad you got to hear it. As he got older, his voice deepened a little, as well. To hear him perform this live was a wonderful experience. He's a magnificent musical arranger, too. Check those horns!
Van Morrison was a staple of the San Francisco music scene in the 70s. I saw him several times including at Filmore West, Winterland and The Lion's Share. The latter is a small club in San Anselmo, just north of the city, with a real intimate setting. I also bought most of his early records and still have the vinyl LPs. He never disappointed and always had first rate musicians playing with him.
Thanks, Harri! Van was amazing.. this is one of my favorites... very evocative...(that horn section, with baritone sax representing the fog horn) - everyone knows "Brown eyed Girl" .. but he did so much more...if you haven't already, try "Tupelo Honey"... and also "Jackie Wilson Said" (of course, you must know Jackie lol) I appreciate your reaction!
You have found one of my favorite songs. It reminds me so much, leaving West Palm @ 2:AM to arrive at West End at daybreak on my sailboat, into the mystic. God please let me do that one more time before I die.
Harri, I’m Glad you got to hear Van’s tune It has been one of my faves for 50 years . There are two tunes by Pat Metheny that you should hear even if you don’t Air them . Studio versions ( because Pat seriously protects his works the tune are “San Lorenzo” a beautiful combination of acoustic and amplified guitar/ keys and “Across The Heartland” both instrumentals that will take you on a aural eargasm. These tunes by The Pat Metheny Group exposed millions to “ JAZZ” back in the late 70’s . Please just listen for your own musical experience. I very much enjoy you gig !BTW, pay attention to Van’s breath release after the second verse “ you know I will be coming home” aaahhh
I saw Van in concert in the mid 70s in Toronto. He did not sing this or any other "hit". He told us he was singing other music now. His heart was with jazz at that moment. Some people left but they missed an amazing evolving artist! ✌️💖🌹
Van Morrison always includes several songs that praise God, including this one. I think the best one is "Have I Told You Lately", most people thank it is a love song but it is a prayer to God. I love him.
I fell in love with Van Morrison in 1984 when a co-worker of mine saw I was listening to a cassette tape of Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited (I was not your typical 18 year old) . He was like "dude, I have something you NEED to listen to." He loaned me his copy of Astral Weeks, and I was hooked. This might be my favorite song of his, but it's truly difficult to pick.
You should check out another one by Van Morrison called When Will I Ever Learn To Live In God. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Great choice for Harri - my favourite Van Lp.
Every time I hear this song, I get chills. It’s so beautiful.

If Van didn't do it, your comment just did! 🇮🇪

This song fills my soul. Love Van Morrison 🙏
Moondance one of the greatest jazz nonjazz track ever

YES Harri, when the foghorn whistle blows, you are being called back home.
This song is on my list of funeral songs... I absolutely love it!
Van Morrison, one of a kind!❤

This song is amazing. I had the great honor of seeing Van Morrison in the 70’s when he came to Boston and he is mesmerizing. I nearly melted when he did this song. It was a great show. Thanks Harri and Maya. 🌺✌️
I played this at my late husband’s funeral. It always makes me cry but it’s a beautiful song.
I used to play this song when I was pregnant with my son. It still gives me chills all over and a sense of peace. Amazing reaction as always! ❤
A really great version of this song is on Live German Tv with Van and the band. The band is absolutely outstanding and Van is at another level 🎶🎵💚
One of the best songs ever written 😘🤌

My favorite Van Morrison song.
My absolute favorite Van Morrison tune
Harri, I spread my brothers ashes in the Atlantic Ocean while this song played.... he loved it and asked us to do it for him...

Harri, The song is a classic like yourself. Peace and Love from Minneapolis

It's a great song, love this.
BEAUTIFUL & one of my favorites! The whole album is amazing.
Love You Harry 😍
Liked your perspective on this one.
Every song on the Moondance album is worthy of a close listen.
You have found one of my favorite songs. It reminds me so much, leaving West Palm @ 2:AM to arrive at West End at daybreak on my sailboat, into the mystic. God please let me do that one more time before I die.

Van is a legend ❤
He's got an amazing voice but always allows the instrumentals to shine.
I swear, you groove to the coolest music!
I've always been a Van Morrison fan and it never gets old!
Peace!
He put out a live double album back in 73/74 called Too late to stop now. Worth treating yourself to. All the best.
Love your reactions Harri. I feel like I'm listening to a friend.

Love Van! Thanks for sharing this one. 🙂
Thanks,great Sunday song😊
I've said it before, I'll say it again. Van is my Jesus. It truly is THAT simple. He's been soothing my soul for the better part of 30 years.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching you reacting to this song! This song is definitely special.
"""GOOSEBUMPS HARRY""""
For some reason this also makes me think of Tim Buckley. "Sitting in a Hong Kong Bar"
Just the perfect song.
My very favorite song
If it's Van Morrison, you know it's good. Must be in his mid to late 70s these days. Always great music from Van.
astral weeks and moondance ❤ my favorite albums
Awesome submission choice! I have long since placed this Van Morrison gem on my All-Time Greatest Playlist. Bravo Maya and Harri.
I feel that this is Vans 'Sittin on the dock of the bay'
❤💕🤗. Thank you Harri. So relaxing.
I don’t know about labor, but my babies were rocked to and serenaded by Van Morrison.
As good a well-crafted song as you'll ever find. His best and should be a desert island selection.
Bravo!! ❤
Harri, the sea is in the background because it is about the sea. This song will be played at my funeral.
I saw Van in concert in the mid 70s in Toronto. He did not sing this or any other "hit". He told us he was singing other music now. His heart was with jazz at that moment. Some people left but they missed an amazing evolving artist! ✌️💖🌹
Nice reaction. I found you tonight. Lots of fun
Love this, and love Zach Brown's version too
I am glad you enjoyed one of the few real musical genius still alive!
I think your interpretation that the foghorn calling is a metaphor death is spot on.
Van Morrison always includes several songs that praise God, including this one. I think the best one is "Have I Told You Lately", most people thank it is a love song but it is a prayer to God. I love him.
Are you aware of “ Whenever God shines his light on me”
Are you aware of his duet with Cliff Richards ( no relation to Keef) on “ Whenever God Shines His Light On Me”
Anyone else like to hear Hari react to Van Morrison's Wavelength? You wouldn't regret it Hari.
Agreed.
Just broke the Winter blues...
John Klingberg on bass Harri, you may want to check out the live version from 1973's Too Late To Stop Now album too..
you would like his version of Crazy Love
You should check out another one by Van Morrison called When Will I Ever Learn To Live In God. I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
The healing has beun.give it a try.
First one.
lets go
Loved that reaction Harri.
Try a reaction to another great songwriter from up Van’s way.
- Paul Brady. - the island. Beautiful song.
