The smoking sax player is Pee Wee Ellis (RIP) who played with James Brown before Morrison. Note two drummers. The lead guitarists is John Platania who still plays with Morrison in the US today. Platania's other gig is with Chip Taylor who wrote Wild Thing. The Bass guitarist David Hayes and the keyboards player John Allair still tour with Morrisons band for US tours.

Musical genius; trailblazer; a complex and innovative artist; an iconic and particularly intuitive poet/lyricist; a very skillful multi-instrumentalist; and a superb vocalist with unique phrasing, a great sense of rhythm, and a spiritual soul... that's Van.

@@AnnE-mn8nySome of Van Morrison's lyrics clearly are statements. I happen to disagree with some of his views of what counts as "tyranny" regarding issues in the pandemic, but I support his right of expression and indeed laud his courage. He's a great man. We should have hearts and voices that are free, but we should always count the broad effect our message may have, and considerately weigh the benefit or price to others who accept our view as we present it from our art, position, and platform.

Van often name-checks the sources of his love of rhythm & blues and jazz music from his youth in Belfast, listening on shortwave radio to the wavelengths of The Voice of America and U.S. Armed Forces Radio. And he grew up to be a master of his brand of Celtic Soul music. What a legendary performer.

Beautiful 1978 love song by Van, with reference to "Brown Eyed Girl", with the lines, "Won't You Play That Song Again For Me, About My Lover, My Lover in The Grass". Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and John. Great song. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

1976, my best buddy calls, says he has tickets for 3,000 seat theater in Passaic NJ and his girlfriend cancelled. Now I had heard of VM and knew a few hit songs. But I was more into other harder rock music at the time. So I go, we're like 12th row center, I am blown away for 2 solid hours. Seriously I had seen Aerosmith and Nugent and Pink Floyd before, but Morrison blew my mind. I ran the next day to get my first VM album, I now have over 40 of his albums and as any of my kids could tell you, he is my all time favorite musician !!!

Thanks, Debbie. One of the reasons I chose this is I rarely see Van playing guitar live. Most fans don't know his primary instrument is saxophone. In fact, I'm thinking of requesting a video with Van playing sax that is very recent. Maybe next month or early next year.

As much as I like this live version of Wavelength, I actually prefer the studio recording of it. While the intro is shorter and nowhere near as powerful with the horns blowing etc, Van gets into his falsetto voice on a level that very few blue eyed soul singers can reach. If you’ve never heard it, it’s truly worth a click and the smile you won’t be able to resist 😸
