There's an extended version called the Rogue Cut, in which due to Kitty's injuries from when Logan briefly snapped, the others need to go get Rogue so that she can take Kitty's place. They did a really good job of balancing the needs of old comic fans (like me) who remembered the original Days of Future Past storyline from the early 80s and people who only knew the movies. Unlike most adaptations of landmark comics, they managed to keep the essence of what made it great while not being afraid to make massive changes to the details. I particularly like the idea of going into the characters' early days, rather than just going back to the "present" of the series. And we get introduced to Evan Peters' Quicksilver! I'm sorry you've already seen WandaVision, because a great moment in that series will have lost quite a bit of its impact. Anyway, thoughtful reaction as always, thanks!

Days Of Future Past should've been the last X-Men movie, given what happened to the franchise afterwards with the likes of Deadpool, Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix, New Mutants, and Logan.
It was such a perfect ending to the series.
Also, sidenote, Charles' taking the serum to heal his legs and stop his powers, is more than because Erik and Raven left. It's also heavily implied that Charles watched all his students and teachers get drafted into the Vietnam War and through his telepathy sensed them dying, why he closed down the school and isolated himself.

I believe the title is from Arthuian legend. Merlin was born in the future, and grew younger. What was everyone's future was his past, and everyone's past, was Merlin's future.
I believe the comic book this movie was adapted from, was written by Chris Claremont who loved the knights of the round table. He used very little source material as he could to make his story as original as he possible.
Regardless, there was huge chunks of this movie that seemed to be missing. It seemed important when Apocolypse was in his fight with Jean Grey, and he mentions her as the perfect being, that he was referencing something he heard or dreamed about thousands of years ago. Also, it seemed important that parts of his armor had meaning too, as it was ripped away from him, piece by piece, that he was losing some of his powers.
I didn't read the comic books, but I read about them. So greater understanding might have been had by reading the comic books as they tended to drone on about such details. Perhaps the movie's screenwriter and director counted on fans having read the comic books to understand the missing finer points. I don't know...

It was a relief to see that the movie made justice to that story when it was released.
And no, Trask isn't an anagram for Stark: Bolivar Trask's first appearance on the comics was on 1965, waaaaaaaaaaaay before GRRM even started to dream about writing A Song of Ice and Fire. That's just a fun coincidence. XD

...though... presumably she's not a great mother as it seems she abandoned Kurt as a baby somewhere in Germany in the late 60s or early 70s. I assume she felt the work she was doing with Eric for mutant liberation was either too dangerous or time consuming for her to be mothering, so she left the child at a church or monastery, which is maybe why he grew up so religious.

The whole time travel concept is also used in DC Comics, mainly involving Flash. Also, it's appropriate that you mention Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator since James Cameron was one of the consulting people for the film and screenplay along with Chris Claremont, who wrote the initial comic book storyline for Uncanny X-Men.

It seems like you made the connection but I wanted to clarify one thing about Evan Peter's Quicksilver. He plays the same character as Wanda's brother in Age of Ultron. In the comics, Wanda and Quicksilver are mutants and Magneto is their father.
When Disney bought Fox, it was shortly before WandaVision came out. They had Evan Peter's make an appearance as Wanda's brother instead of the original actor to kind of say "yeah, we have the x-men, and we can use their actors now"
Also, fun fact, both quciksilvers were in the movie KickAss

I honestly didn't think they could pull off 'Days' in movie form. But they did and it's one of my faves.
It's funny... I watched 'New Mutants' just to see if it was as bad as people said. (Spoiler: It is.) Afterwards, I decided to make it a double feature with 'Dark Phoenix' because "it can't be as bad as New Mutants". And ya know what... I was right. Not that DF was good (it was meh at best), New Mutants is just that bad. The only positive that I can give New Mutants is the it's less than 90 minutes.
Which means I'd rather watch that than Eternals. 🤣

Also, the reason for his..."jerkiness" is because he's an extremist due to the trauma he endured during the Holocaust

It was simultaneously a joy and a bummer to see one of my all-time favorite X-Men characters sort of show up in this movie. His name is Rockslide and he’s this big rock monster looking guy. He’s a big fan of the Hulk. One of the Sentinels turns into big jagged rocks and I’m like OH is that a hint at Rockslide?? But then oh yeah… if the Sentinel has his powers, Rockslide is probably dead… lol

Hot take: The New X-Men, especially the Kyle/Yost iteration (X-23, Hellion, Mercury, Surge, Prodigy, Rockslide, Elixir, and Dust) is one of the best "young" X-Men teams. It has a great balance of powers and personalities, while also being one of the most diverse casts. They're also a perfect metaphor for the modern generation, considering one of their biggest defining traits is how the choices and actions of their predecessors seriously failed them (in the case of the NXM, the way the elder X-Men completely screwed up led to 99% of them losing their powers, and dozens of them being subsequently murdered by Stryker).
The fact that, except for X-23, they're routinely relegated to wallpaper, and at BEST trotted out when they need an "expendable" character to kill off for shock value is one of the biggest travesties of the current era in the comics.

@@billygriffitts8084 None of the Sentinels we've seen in the books can actually copy powers. Nimrod (from the same universe as the bad future of Days of Future Past in the books, though he didn't appear in the original story itself) was capable of adapting his systems in response to powers used against him in the same manner Trask describes, but he could not copy the actual powers themselves as the future Sentinels do in the movie.

@@billygriffitts8084 To me it seems like they can both absorb powers and even transfer them between each other. At least that’s what I got out of the opening scene with the ice and fire powers. Like they mimicked their targets, then switched powers with each other to get an advantage over their respective targets. And the absorption part gets validated in the Rogue Cut where it’s shown they used Rogue’s dna to beef up the Sentinels even more.

@@Ambaryerno It’s such a shame. I get why they can’t be considered THE X-Men for branding reasons, Wolverine Cyclops etc will always be at the top. Days of Future Past was a brilliant way to bridge the old movies with the First Class reboot. Plus because we're messing with time travel they can continually kill off characters in brutal fashion. Because this was released at a similar time to Age of Ultron, it did become 'Battle of Quicksilvers' since both films were using the same character, Evan Peters' role, although brief, became a huge highlight especially thanks to the Time in a Bottle scene. His appearance in Wandavision was so big because of this role, and why so many were let down that he was Ralph Bohner.
In the comics, it's actually Kitty who goes back in time to her younger self, and they're trying to stop the assassination of Senator Kelly, Xavier and Moira by Mystique's group. The comic was highly acclaimed, cementing X-Men's rise to popularity. Also JFK in the comics is indeed a mutant, he had super charisma.
As a saggitarius I'm offended by that, but on the other hand I wouldn't mind looking like Michael Fassbender
