    Bro, mahalo nui (thank you) for your time, patience, and continuous efforts in creating these short and sweet videos that unpack a lot of the development it takes in restoring the coral. I’m currently partnering with a friend to do the same here in Hawaii and this video gave me alot of excitement, knowledge, and a refresher of the impact this can bring to all of our oceans. Keep doing what you’re doing. God bless you! Aloha.

    I worked on coral reefs around the world for 12 years as a dive guide and saw some stunning corals,including the ones your growing,but a bit bigger ! But I think what you do is great,informative and I wish I had the knowledge you have ! We may well need people like you with your skills in the future to help recolonise some reefs.

    Great video. I really enjoyed your explanations and the "before" and "after" photos. I would have liked it if you had given full names of the coral when you are showing the comparison photos--as a new reef keeper, I watched the video to try to get an idea of what I'd like in my own tank, so clearly hearing the full names of the coral would be super helpful.

      Thank you! More than anything I think the success comes down to not optimizing the tank for any one coral, but instead finding areas of overlap that they all like. For instance medium light, medium flow, so that you can find spots for stuff that needs more or less, but there are areas where most corals can be happy.

    • @Whiskeys_Reef

      I'm not sure about all types of coral, but the Large Pylop corals that like to be directly fed do. I've seen my candy canes doing it, open brains like trachyphyllia, even my Bubble Tip Anemone I've seen poop a few days after feeding. They kindof digest the food to remove everything they can then spit it back out of their mouths a couple days later though, there is no other end.

    • @TheShmeebitdog
      @TheShmeebitdog 3 года назад +1

      For a new hobbiest I wouldn’t expect this kinda growth it will likely take far longer unless you have the money to hire a professional and can fork out a few thousand just on lighting but with some cheap black box lights you can still get some decent growth I recommend if going with black box lighting get a frosted glass lid for the tank to diffuse the light so you don’t get light burns on your corals or hang the lights at least 20”s above the corals

    • @davidmurphy4672
      @davidmurphy4672 3 года назад

      @@TheShmeebitdog You do not need to spend thousands if you do the research and you can get by with an Ai Prime which costs 300$ or even half the price used on offer up. Not saying pro is not as good I rather take the challenge myself that is the fun of the hobby for me.

    • @Whiskeys_Reef
      @Whiskeys_Reef  2 года назад

      It will take some time for the tank to settle in, but if you do your research and keep things stable this is easily achievable I would say. You don't need expensive lights, but you do need even adequate coverage. This tank particularly used T5 and you can get a used T5 fixture with individual reflectors cheap these days. More than anything keep it stable and be consistent.

      Oh,.. It's been a while but I always pretty much keep them about the same. DKH around 8-9, CA ~430, Mag ~1300, Phosphate around 0.1 using Hanna, Nitrate I try and have about 5 but have to dose it because of the fuge. I'm doing the same thing in my 300 gallon now, these are all pretty middle of the road numbers so there's space on either side if something goes wrong. The big difference now is that I'm using Kalk and keeping my PH above 8 always, and up to 8.4 during the day. That has improved growth over what you see in this video.
