      They had to ask the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz for guidance as nobody knew what the protocol was. The Grand Duchess was 9 during the coronation of her Uncle William IV and she remembered the coronation of Queen Victoria too. They based the coronation of Edward VII on her memories.

      @Huw Wilson Queen Victoria was a domineering Matriarch. She very much was in control of all matters and took her position seriously right to the end. She did have a sense of humour. As Charles has grown older, he will do the same when it’s his time. In the event that something happens to Charles’ health and he’s not able to serve as sovereign, he’ll still be King but William could serve as Prince Regent. It was six months of silence and notes when Beatrice sought permission to marry. The family intervened, and Beatrice was allowed to marry--provided that the couple remained with Victoria.
      As I remember, Toria (Alexandra's youngest daughter) did have one suitor (a Lord Roseberry)--byt she was not permitted to marry. Her other two sisters (Louise and Maud) married. Alexandra wanted Toria with her for companionship (this was expected in Queen Victoria's time).

His mother Vickie had a hard time with the fact her child was not perfect and she had all kinds of different methods of treatment to cure his arm, many of which were painful and barbaric. She found it hard to get close to him over this imperfection and this was a subject that she discussed through letters with her mother the queen. • @DennisLiewDennis
      @DennisLiewDennis 3 года назад

      The young Belgian assassin yelled, Long live Transvaal, Free South Africa, if I were you, I’ll run you! as Sipido was arrested by the Belgian gendarmes and calling Edward, Prince of Wales a bastard, just when Edward got out from the train. Then Sipido yelled again, My Love, I Love...then Sipido was hauled away to the police
      On the assassination scene of this show, Edward, Prince of Wales was on his way to Denmark through Belgium on 4 April 1900, where His Majesty, Edward, Prince of Wales was the victim of an attempted assassination, when fifteen-year-old Jean-Baptiste Sipido shot at him in protest over the Boer War. Sipido, although obviously guilty, was acquitted by a Belgian court because he was underage. The perceived laxity of the Belgian authorities, combined with British disgust at Belgian atrocities in the Congo, worsened the already poor relationship between the United Kingdom and the Continent. However, in the next ten years, Edward's affability and popularity, as well as his use of family connections, assisted Britain in building European alliances.
      Sipido was in Brussels in December 1884, Sipido’s parents were “respectable”. His father a tinsmith, funding his son’s apprenticeship, was unaware he was mixing with socialists. He joined the “Avant Garde Socialiste” club, an amateurish group of less than 30 people that was formed in 1899. At the time Belgium was a hotbed of socialist organisations speaking out against British imperial policies. One issue that particularly incensed Sipido was Britain’s involvement in the Boer War in South Africa.
      Spurred on by his socialist comrades and anti-British rallies he attended, Sipido became determined to do something. When he heard that the Prince of Wales was passing through Brussels, he headed to the station with a group of friends armed with a second-hand gun he had bought with money he had saved from his father’s small allowance,
      After seeing his chance he jumped at the train and fired off two shots before being pinioned by Crocius, a group of gendarmes and other concerned citizens at the station.
      While he was being hauled away to the station master’s office, an unfortunate man picked up the dropped revolver and was mistaken for the assassin by people in the crowd who beat him to the ground.
      Sipido was grilled by the police who asked him whether he bore some grudge against the prince. He replied “No, no grudge. But I am an anarchist. I wanted to kill the Prince of Wales on account of the bloodshed he has caused in South Africa.”
      Sipido was later tried for attempted murder, but the jury found that he could not be held responsible for his actions “by reason of his age” and he was released.
      He fled to France but later returned to Belgium where he moved high up in socialist organisations before retiring to France where he died in 1959.

      We see it as selfish. Back in that time, it was accepted behavior. One daughter was expected to forgo marriage to care for an elderly parent.

    I wish Prince Charles could see this series. It seems he could relate to some of the problems Bertie had all his life. I believe Charles should inherit the thro e because he has waited so long and he should be given a chance. But he may feel, like Bertie, that he can’t reign. But he should at least give it a try. I would be happy to see him,King at last. I know people are saying the monarchy will not last, but I think most people want it to go on as it makes them feel good. I believe they do serve a purpose in helping England. They bring people together. As long as they feel a duty to the people, they will be fine. Queen Elizabeth is great,she is so strong and keeps her head and she will be missed, buy I think the people will want Charles to take his place and be someone new,the New King. If the do away with the monarchy the world will be an even sadder place. It is a beautiful bauble for us all to love and enjoy. I hope Charles won’t want it to die and will use his strength and intelligence to heal the problems and keep it alive and well.

      I can easily see him being pressured to resign due to the fact that he is a man and an old one at that though. Unfortunate times.

      Charles, from what I have read about him, was not constantly compared to his father. Not was he blamed for his father's death. Charles had even deputized for his mother (something Victoria refused to let Bertie do).

    32:10. Why does Victoria get so upset about Burtie kissing Mrs. Gladstone's hand?

    • @gidzmobug2323
      @gidzmobug2323 5 лет назад +11

      Victoria was not fond of Gladstone. Victoria probably felt that the act of kissing the hand was more an act of homage that should have been for her.
