Hi, hope all is well. I have one of these Toro electric shovel, they’re awesome for anything under 6”. It’s supposed to be up to 4” but i done 6”. I was lucky enough to find it the same way you did next to a trash barrel. I took it home wiped it down and test it out and BOOOM, it was working fine. I had to tighten up some screws that were lose but hey it’s running good. Just yesterday 6/5/2023 I found another model up from that one which is model 38360 and also works fine. The one that you have started in 1997 and discontinued in 2001 and the new model came in. The one I been looking for is the model 38350 which was made in 1983 and it’s a 2-stroke engine. Take care and god bless.
Wow, thanks for the great input! Nobody has been able to give me the year on it, yet. These things run like a beast. It's awesome. So mine is more than 20 years old. That would be sweet to find that old model. Love me some good trash treasure!
@@fixitFlip yes brother. All my tools are Toro. I have the 2 electric shovels, I been using the 1 that you have and hopefully I’ll use the other one I found yesterday as well for small snow. I have the Toro 824OE which is the big 2 stage snowblower for the heavy snow. For the grass I have the Toro smartstow 21465 which is really good. You don’t have to push it because it has the forward gears that you moves it for you. The 38350 is just about the same one you have just about 4” higher and it’s gas. That one is the best bro, just imagine one like yours but gas operated. Its more power to it. Toro makes good equipment that last a long time. You got a good tool there you can even use it in accumulated snow but do the top as if it was a regular shovel. It will move it quick. I hope you don’t get rid of it. This guy has 3 of the one I’m looking for and he doesn’t want to sell them. One is brand new, never seen snow or gas put in. When you have a second go check it out. I’ll put the link in down below. If you find another one try to grab it. Even if it’s for parts you never know when you may need a part or 2. Good chatting with you brother. Have a blessed night. @@CARLIT0SWAY I had to look up the smartstow. I didn't know Toro had a gas mower you could stand upright. I knew the battery ones you could but not the gas. Pretty cool if you have a little garage like me. I have limited space. I am definitely not getting rid of my power shovel. I love that thing and it's a great conversation piece with neighbors. Toro definitely makes quality stuff. Stay safe and God bless. Stay in touch.
@@fixitFlip wats up Fix it, yeah brother they’ve had it about 6-7 years now. That smartstow comes in handy you can save a lot of space with it. And the part I really like about it besides the smartstow is that with the forward move gears, you can use it as a chipper and break down your grass, twigs down to small pieces then take the bag out and dump it out. When I tell you this you may think I’m careless but it helped me out in choosing these tools. I left the lawn mover, snow blower, and the toro tiller and cultivator a whole year and a half with out draining the gas and when it was time to turn them on it was like you had last used 10 minutes ago. I wont switch to no other brand because these tools are reliable. I have Roybi edge trimmer with attachments and so far I’ve had it for 61/2 years and it’s still kicking arse and never let me down. So if you’re going to get some new tools give them try if you can and I’m sure it won’t let you down. Toro definitely makes kick ass reliable tools. We’re you able to see the picture I sent you, I sent you a link to a website that shows some old gas powered power shovels from toro that were in 100% new condition… good hearing from you flip, definitely stay in touch you see I am ,lol god bless.
@@CARLIT0SWAY I did see your link. That was cool to see, thanks for sharing. That's good to hear about the Toro stuff starting right up after sitting for a while. Not all brands are like that. I'm going to have to look into their stuff! I've got plenty of Ryobi stuff. Mainly because it's affordable, ha ha. And it does the job for your typical DIY guy.
Got the exact same one out of the garbage. Wouldn't trade it for a brand new one. They don't make them like this any more. Solid metal gears (mobilgrease 28 helps with noise) with no belt to break and a heavy duty Bosch permanent magnet motor. I converted mine to cordless by connecting a 80v lithium battery directly to the plug. No modification necessary.
@@fixitFlip Tested it for the first time yesterday with an 84v battery (20 lithium cells in series). It was not as powerful as before but great in tight neighborhoods if you don't want to launch snow at your neighbors house. With 2 60v Dewalt batteries in series you'll get more power and the gears and motor won't have any problem. Not sure about how safe that much DC voltage it, but it is lots of fun watchin that tiny little thing launch a stream of snow clear across the yard.
In NJ we have had ours since the 80's. It still works, but the only thing missing is the middle handle which you really don't need. I WD40 it to make it spin smoothly. It's helpful if you are using a battery operated snowblower and the rest of the family wants to help by using the TORO.
When will proof learn WD40 is NOT A LUBRICANT. It will run smoother for the first few times and then attract dust, metal fillings and grit worse than before. It won't last a year.
That to easy..👍 Need to use a leaf rack like i did😆 Hey it worked good ~ This is the worst blizzard i seen in 20 years in Texas ! At 8 am this morning, it was 7 deg and a foot of snow on the ground 😒 i had to go to the mail box. And needed to start up the pickup too. So i grab the leave rack. GOT HER DONE FAST! it wasn't that easy as your Toro ~ man that thing GETS IT ON
Ha ha, yeah she throws the snow pretty far for an old girl. Pretty good trash find if I do say so myself. A foot of snow would be a struggle for this thing, though!
I just bought one of these from the reuse store for $10.00, the manual is dated 1981, I also just watched a video of this model from the early 80s. I live in Canada, so this little vintage power shovel should prove to be interesting.
Like you, i also seen one identical to yours that someone had discarded as trash. I have yet to use it (snows right around rhe corner!) and was very skeptical of its effectiveness, mainly cuz i never see them and i live in the pacific northwest! Matter of fact before i got mine i never knew that a tool such as this even existed. However, after watching yours in action and reading the mostly positive comments seems like a handy tool. Its like if a snowblower and a snow shovel hooked up and had a one night stand, this would be the result. ;) It seems to work great for fresh or "powdery" like snow, but i still am doubtful it would work well if at all on icy packed down snow or even really wet heavy slush. Anyone have any experience with that?
I have experience with that. I've used it more since making the video. I would say that you are exactly right. With powdery snow it works great, and it works well with wet snow, as long as it isn't very deep. I'd say once you start getting over 3 or 4 inches, this thing will struggle a bit. Especially if it is packed down. But for light snows, its impressive!
That’s awesome. I hope you do. Post the link here when you get it made if you don’t mind. I’d love to check it out. I get a kick out of tools like this 👍🏻
It is handy but I am looking for a solution to permanently engage the safety switch. It becomes annoying as whenever you have to stop and then press this teeny beeny switch to start the shower again
What about just wrapping a gear tie around it and giving it a twist. Something like this: amzn.to/3b8z1Nt I don't know, just an idea. I use gear ties for a lot of stuff.
