The devs have tricked the players with this region. They put a road that leads upwards because they know that all players will follow the road because they think they will find shelter there. And instead they let 4 packs of timber wolves spawn at the end of the road. I have not seen any timber wolves anywhere else in the entire area, I even reached the weather station on a different way without encountering any.
not to mention the severe lack of trees and therefore firewood, having all the cabins be outdoor indoor locations and SUPER COLD with very little loot in them AND making the temperature fall as you gain altitude. it's kinda genius
I'm pretty sure this region will be known for the huge amount of timberwolves instead of the temperatures.
@@atoxee6867 it'll be known for how it faked out a bunch of people into thinking it was more straightforward and easy than it actually was, which includes both the timberwolves and drastic weather with no steady firewood or loot around
@@atoxee6867 i barely noticed the temperature because i was fighting so many timber wolves. I feel as if there are too many for the area but I guess they had to make the region difficult somehow in the limited space
@atoxee6867 nah the environment is still more difficult than the timberwolves.
That beginning was insane! It´s like taken from a Jack London novel. Lone survivor struggles her way up a desolate mountain, fights off several packs of timberwolves, and takes refuge in a hut, surrounded by the wolfpacks. When all hope seems lost, the wolves suddenly flee. Taking advantage of the opportunity, she leaves the hut only to stand face to face with the reason the wolves fled... the bear.
I was thinking of the Jack London short story "To Build a Fire," in which the protagonist fades into the long dark after his fire burns out.
"I think it's enought of stones"
2 seconds later...

"PO. TA. TOES." - a brave Hobbit
Thank you, Zack, this was wonderful.
hobbit.
Should’ve had some on Weathertop!
The part with the bridge "jump" was wonderful lol. Reminded me of a friend of mine who regularly does things like that when they reach day 100 😂. I'm learning Interloper, but have only survived 37 days there so far. I reached 500 in Voyager and literally cried because it was so hard and I was so happy to hit that milestone. This game gives me so much joy. ❤
You can actually enter the cabin that has been snowed in thru the window
Oh wow haha that's good to know
I was playing like an hour ago and actually stopped playing in that cabin. It's an good base..kinda.
i was SO SURPRISED by that! I was running away from a group of timberwolves and panicked when there was no door, tried to get to the roof, found the window and got inside :D
@quemsereu2009 I imagine the wolves are like "how tf did they do that 👁👁"
Actually laughed out loud when I tried to open the doors downstairs 🤣
"release your inner stim" - I love your commentary! it brings great joy to the snowy survival treks
The first hour of this video had me hollering! From the 250 timberwolves to the bear. Whenever you said "thanks door" i laughed so hard. Great vid zak!
Zak I can NOT wait for you to take on misery mode! So exciting. New map is gorgeous, though. Music is perfect
I'm IN LOVE with this region. This for sure got into my top 5 regions especially on interloper. Its hard but fair because there is shelter everywhere, i LOVE the soundtrack, i love the little cabins ugh.... its so good
I spent 25 ish days in Sundered Pass and spent around 100 pistol bullets on timber wolfs. (stalker mode)
Still I got to borrow a cat hat from a local cougar....
The new map is brilliant. And Hinterland are truelly masters at their craft!
I’m 46 min in so far and have been on the edge of my seat!!
"On my Wintertop run, I met a hobit named D.H.Dunn.
His feet were hairy and he called me Barry." :D
I love it - haha!
I am 3-4 days in Sundered Pass 500+ days Stalker and I am glad I brought 70 rifle rounds, wolves have me down to 30 now. Keeping an eye out for the Cougar because I have NO idea what its capable of. This map makes Ash Canyon feel like Pleasant Valley.
////This map makes Ash Canyon feel like Pleasant Valley.////
Perfect description.
yeah i wish i did, i brought 32 and ive already used 20
@@roflcoppter117 I had to walk my happy ass all the way back to Mystery Lake to go grab 3 bows and 30 arrows. Burned through all my ammo. Oh, and there is a shortcut to Sundered Valley in the Northwest of Transfer Pass, much easier than that cave in CZ. It ends up coming out to the south end of SV.
So I am not the only one who prefers the power through timbies. Although I am now stuck between two packs with no ammo.
@@acada6594 LOL. I went back to ML to grab 38 arrows and 4 bows hahaha after burning through almost 100 rifle rounds.
A warning to you all.
If you do the last part in Last Horizon, do not sleep or leave the building.
The door will be permanently locked.
Rudiger’s Revenge
Just happened to me today. Wish I'd seen the warning earlier but I didn't want to be spoiled. Hope they hot fix it to open from the inside
You mean inside of Omega Bunker?
@@endlessriver7 I do not want to spoil anything, It is the last mission in Last Horizon
@@endlessriver7 Be absolutely sure that you have read everything and that you have received confirmation that it is done, before you leave
That rope climb when you go past the fishing hut is ridiculous. I couldn't climb it with full stamina and rest. I had to make the improv crampons to make it
Its barely possible with full stamina and coffee
@@Explorer1964 or with a stim :)
That friggin rope is behind so many bodyguard Timberwolves that it makes you think that a new backpack with like 40 extra kilos of carrying capacity is up there
And when you finally crawl up there with torn clothes and no ammo left...
...its a gosh darn dead end with a small cave and maybe a chocolate bar 😭😭😭
hinterland trolled us hard
And now that you have made all this effort to show us the new region, I can easily do it do, on my Voyager run. Such a gorgeous place. What a great video, Zak. Thanks a lot, man!
That beginning was a nail biter...omg 🙀 your ability to navigate those ledges is legendary 😅
When fighting the timberwolves at the cabin (40:00) you could have just passed time in the bed or just in front of the fireplace. After about 2 or 3 ingame hours they will often disengage. This is my tactic when I travel through blackrock and a wolfpack wants to eat me. I run to the nearest car or truck and pass time inside. Hobbit
Glad you had an early view on the new content.. * * * * * P.s. Well deserved..
After checking it out myself fully, I really appreciate this region. Your video definitely helped me make a plan for exploration and it sure is the most challenging map so far, I'd say. As a Stalker player I'm definitely not used to being 3 arrows cold outside if it's not a blizzard, but here it basically happens regularly. After getting rather comfortable with my gameplay, having some genuinely risky situations helps set things in perspective and reminds you that the world is actually against you. I also couldn't imagine dealing with these timberwolves without being able to pump them full of lead.
The map also made me realize how different of a feel the Far Territory has compared to Lower Great Bear. With these huge and empty desolate regions, it does feel like a whole different experience when compared to the civilized areas in the base game or even to things like Timberwolf Mountain, which still feels smaller and more comfortable in comparison. It's great how they achieved making the DLC feel like a genuine extension rather than just another map.
That broken bridge jump attempt cracked me up so hard! Fun stuff, Zak. 😊
This is my favorite region, it’s beautiful
glad I watched this before entering 😨
almost lost my current loper run(day 117)
If you are "Gandalf", why didn't you use your staff to see inside the mines? Ahahah. Very interesting and intense blind playthrough !!!
I love the scenary of this region and everything about it the large amounts of timberwolves
I counted 9 timber wolves on screen at one time during the siege of that last cabin and I think from the movements there might have been more. That's an insane amount of wolves, and in real life if you get 2 packs of wolves they will fight each other until one of the packs leaves, here you don't have that distraction.
the go away, go away, at 31:40 reminded me of Lars Monsen across Canada with the black bear
Thanks a lot for this playthrough and congratulations for the chance and honour to have early access to this. Though, it was more reminiscent of the Hobbits crossing the Caradhras Pass rather than Weathertop. ;-) Now I'm looking forward to check it out on my Stalker run. It is an interesting region and it fits to the rather...wide and empty regions of the Far Territory. I'm not the biggest fan of the timberwolves, but it makes sense that the Far Territory has a timberwolf region, too and at least they seem to be confined to that avalanche plateau.
Timberwolves ....hah i use the Power of Custom Mode to make them disappear
Problems ? Become God !
I don't know on what difficulty you're playing, but with use of the old relaible revolver those bastarda dissapear very fast as well, the forester variant is especially usefull, since it's more accurste on range
Timberwolves would be okay if a whole pack didn’t spawn literally every day, sometimes coming multiple times a day.
@Aurochs330 stop finishing off packs. Leave one alive
zak this was so so so fun to watch, just wanna show some appreciation, love your content and your ability to keep me engaged for 4 hours, lots and lots of love
Thanks for the tour and taking us along on the blind learning experience. That weathertop area would have made a hobbit proud, if they had any pride.
having explored the area and done the tale I find myself screaming at the screen every time you walk past something important and don't see it, but then upset with myself when I see the things you find that I missed haha. Good video! :)
Thx for the video i was rly waiting for that
Now we know why it took so long for this part of the update to come out, the developers had to convince every single freakin timberwolf in blackrock and bleak inlet to move in to this new region, i wonder what kind of deal they settled on lol.
Spoiler.
In those small cabins at the start, if you turn toward the door and look up, you can find containers/backpacks.
Those matches you got in that cave is the game changer...
Flares on the Weather Station is the X Factor..
Sticks on the forest on lower part are important before you go up..
„Say friend and enter“ a riddle for the hobbit
Me10n!
All those timberwolves at the cabin cracked me up so much! 😂
You can get to the new region directly from transfer pass. There is a new rope which leads you to a fairly long path from TP to SP, it practically doubles TP in size.
THIS! Here’s the directions that helped me find it: Take the road towards the mine from the train depot and when you see the LITTLE sign that says “mine” on the right side of the road, turn left and there should be a road. Following the road will take you to the rope! :) very far walk after the rope but then you’ll get to a pretty nice seeming part of SP
I was surprised hоw lоng is it. Thоught I'll just climb the rоpe and will be already there😅 I leave the train depоt befоre nооn and it was already dark when I finally came tо Sundered Pass. I had to sleep outside, between two trees. Bearskin bedrоll that I fоund in Transfer Pass helped me with this.
This was an unexpected journey of a video! Good to see that the weather cleared up at the top of the trail!
Yes, I've been waiting for this since monday!
Those timber wolves...i've never been so stressed watching TLD 😅
the path to get to Sundering from Transfer is really cool. From the depot, take the road toward Zone, but then immediately turn left and start uphill. You will discover a road that winds up into the mountains. Make sure you are within weight limits, because you will need to climb a rope.
I was going this way too but without a rope - it seems to split one time 🤔 or do you mean the rope in sundering pass?
Oh, it is big map and cold. So many wolves. I died my third day there after a 400+ day game. Looking forward to replaying and getting back there!
I'm dyin'! 😂 all those timbies, then a bear shows up 😂😂😂
Great video love the new region!
TLDR "DON'T SLEEP IN RUDIGER'S BED"
Hi Zak and fans. There is a nasty bug at the end of the quest. Don't sleep in the bed or it could be the end of your run. Mine is over now 396 days 😪 can't get out of the area because it closed behind me and you can't interact with the door from the other side. No spoiler nasty don't make my mistake. Don't sleep in his bed...
Don't delete your save! The devs will definitely fix this once they hear of this.
@@atoxee6867 I didn't. Going to start my first Interloper run on a new save. If I can make 50 days that's 2 new goals done. Hopefully they have it patched by the end of July. I know this has happened to a few people by now. Possibly many.
This bug will pass into TLD Lore: the Curse of Rudiger’s Bed 💀
Thanks for a good vid as always! I just got sick and was so happy when i saw it’s 4 hours long. Say Hi to the hobbits at the weather top!
20:41 That house is actually accessible through a window on the upper floor and there should always be matches inside and a marine flare outside the window.
Thanks for the vid zack, looks extremely difficult in this region
There was a can opener on the floor by the toilet in the ruined building.
I really want to see you map this region in lower difficult fully gear...
It’s so funny when you’re saying “cmon”.
Great content
"My inventory is a stick" LMAO
Those appear to be werewolves. Climbing walls. 😂
Good job dude
I can't believe you walked past the snow-covered house so many times (at least 6 times) and you didn't notice that you could enter the house through a window. The house is next to the ruin where you took water from the toilet ;)
I love it when you started and said something about "well fed" 😅
1:28:27 the wolves go toward noise, when you run, it’s the equivalent of throwing a stone, they go to investigate.
I always felt like Timberwolf Mountain was also a recreation area.
They added a crazy new feat to the update
Its called "Big Cat Killer"
And the buff... sounds crazy
And another one that makes you IMMUNE to Cabin Fever
2:13:40 Zak is sо humble, dоesn't want tо brag that he's already survived 70 days оn this new misery mоde withоut even rest a single hоur))
@Zak thanks for this - I watched through it after my own playthrough of the region to see if you spotted anything I hadn't. Wow it is a tough one for sure. Hopefully those hobbits in weathertop make it out alive :D
Re: matches - fairly certain they guaranteed in that mine. I also found some there but in a different location. Spawn -> Weather Station -> Mine does seem like a good route. I also found a hammer in the region.
1:17:24 is that a can opener on the floor?
Zak, Enjoyed the run(s). I have not found a single match in Sundered Pass on Pilgrim. Not saying there are none but I entered the region thinking the 6 cardboard I had on me would be fine. And it will be because there are lots of flares. And besides it is pilgrim. Living on sodas and deer carcass. Others have already said what I thought of except that this is a great region!
Ok, I did find matches next to a campfire when completing the map.
Your videos are the only experience I have with ZoC and SP lol. I haven’t even finished the first tale! I’m still super blind to the contents of TFTFT.
Ngl I love hearing Zak get as frustrated as the rest of us. He's subtle but it's there haha
I really like this map. It feels isolated. It feels lonely. There are no deer and lots of ptarmigans which is awesome. Craziest thing as a stalker player is there is no loot in this region. I looted it entirely on stalker and i found a can opener and about 4000 calories. No clothes, no TOOLS, no guns except one in the weather station.
Didn't finish the entire video here so not sure if you did this but you can go in the cabin that has been buried from an avalanche! You go on the roof and through the front window!
Rough and tense good effort.
don't know if this is only on lower difficulties (playing on voyager) but have found matches on 3 different runs in the snowed in cabin, it was either on a corpse or in a bag in the house, all 3 times, only guaranteed spawn i found.
definitely one of the harder, if not the hardest region in the game imo, as mentioned i play on voyager, even on that difficulty, as soon as you reach the plateau at hut B, you are mostly cold outside even in afternoon / late day, sunny / windy or not.
Timberwolf packs are at least 5 strong and as you showcased there are quite a few packs even on voyager.
Have not checked the whole map yet but i would have liked a bit more wood/sticks once you are at the plateau at hut B.
Friendly spoiler free advice for people wanting to do the tales:
Bring the bearskin bedroll, coffee, tea, and even a thermos :)
Thank you for the fun videos, will enjoy seeing you finish the tales on your 500 days run, don't cut it so close anymore as last episode, want to see you reach the 500 mark
Its so hard to watch him stand right next to the cabin and not go in lol, but you have to climb on top of the roof and go in through the window, lol. @1:30:00
When you were surrounded by timberwolves it felt like you were at Weathertop with the Nazgûl all around…
Zak's finding a lot more potatoes than I have. I wonder if that's a loot bug from creating a custom game like the existence of firearm cleaning kits.
I'd just like to share my experience. I came to Sundered Pass and climbed a rope inside the cave system to get there. Not sure if there is another way that leads to the lower level of the region but that's how it happened for me. After emerging from the cave, I kept left. I had full condition but it got cold really fast since the sun was setting and apparently I was already high up where it's supposed to be colder. Suddenly, an aurora hit. I was of course concerned since there were SIX aurora wolves in the distance. I tried to crouch walk past them but from miles away, I heard the dreaded howls. These were actually aurora timberwolves! I had no idea this region would have timberwolves! I still managed to fight them off with the cheap campfire torch trick. I kept going until a second pack started howling mere minutes from dispatching the first pack. I started making a fire, but suddenly, the aurora was gone. In its place was a blizzard. I was in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night with no idea where the nearest shelter was. Even if I knew where it was, timberwolves had surrounded me and I couldn't obviously do my campfire torch throwing strategy. So in the middle of a blizzard and putting the wall behind me, I started shooting at them. I managed to drop their morale enough, but I was still in a blizzard and I had zero idea how to even get back to the cave system. On top of that, I got bit twice and suffered two bleeds that I wasn't able to immediately patch up because the wolves were relentless. My condition was at about 20% Fortunately, I found a small nook safe from the wind near a broken bridge. There, I started another campfire, but I had only 1 coal left with very few sticks. Checking the temperature, it was a whopping minus 48 degrees. And I was in cover! No way I could fight against that severity of cold because the rope climb in the cave forced me to drop most of my firewood and coal thinking I'd be able to find more in the region. How wrong I was. I exhausted most of my birch bark tea as I drank them again and again as soon as the game allowed me to. I brought 27 birch bark preps and 12 birch bark tea. At the same time, I used the new bear bedroll I just made. Even combined with the fire I had which was only about 20+ degrees, it wasn't enough to warm me but I still used it each time I drank birch bark tea to slow down my warmth loss. After some time, I realized I was almost ompletely out of fuel. Only thing left were my torches, 2 of them 100%, about 5 of them about 70%. I had to scrap them to feed sticks to the fire, but the blizzard was still going. I had to resort to my final desperation move; pulling a torch, harvesting it, then putting it back in. Doing this can sustain campfires way longer than it's supposed to be. That was my last trick, my last stick, my last torch, my last hope. Finally, past afternoon, the blizzard let up. I was so frustrated when I saw a small shack that was very very near from where I fought for my life.
A lot more happened while I was there. Right now though, I am at full retreat. I just found the cave system again. I am out of fuel, out of birch bark tea, out of almost everything. From 8 arrows, I had 4 left. I will be back.
Now THIS is a friggin exciting map! Forsaken Airfield can eff off. Sundered Pass kept me so engaged and at the edge of my seat. I LOVE THIS REGION!!!
So apparently the key to the house room is at the weather station, you need the short wave radio set to bunker mode to find it during an Arora. So I'm assuming you need to repair the forsaken airfield tower to get it.
I’ve been wondering this, thanks so much for the info! ☺️
Love the new updates, they're doing such a great job with all this new content. Though I must say there are quite a few bugs in the game right now, so hopefully they'll get some of those patched soon.
Edit: also great video Zak!!
I went to Sundering with my Tales run, plenty of good clothes, transponder, good run. Got an aurora the first night, probably as planned, even got a signal. It led me to a cache with lots of ammo, but no clues. Working my way uphill now, hoping to find something at the weather station.
Hello Zak, just in case no one hasn't noticed it yet, at 1:17:23 you missed a can opener on the ground, on the wooden flooring, just where the snow starts
I like that there where curtains in the last home cabin. Need those for bandages or possibly a snow shelter if there is enough lol. Hat and gloves if you find a sewing kit on interloper.
Found out that you can climb through the open window on the awning of that cabin covered in snow, surrounded by all the timberwolves
I'm only watching this now that I've explored the region some myself... Wow it's so hard. Granted I'm not a hardcore Interloper player, I'm usually on Stalker. But I started off trying out Sundered Pass on Voyager because I just wanted to explore without much stress. I ended up stuck at the Refuge C, freezing and out of firewood, surrounded by 2 aggro'd timberwolf packs. I'd already fought off multiple other packs and gone through my flares doing so to get up there, and then I realized that the road didn't even continue that way.
With that run over, I spawned in on what I think was my first time ever playing Pilgrim, just so that I could figure out how to get to the top without worrying about the timberwolves. AND EVEN ON PILGRIM THOSE REFUGE CABINS WEREN'T WARM WITHOUT A FIRE!!!
That's actually crazy.
Daamn.
I’ve definitely taken a bear for a walk to keep me safe from timberwolves before. I wonder how well that would work on this map
1:10:07 that timberwоlf was like: srew yоu, guys, I'm gоin' hоme))
Is it just me or did it seem like the wildlife detected you as if you had a scent, even though you didnt?
They do that if you are close enough
Just made this 10 hour day a little less long
I got lost in the lower part during some glimmer fog, started praying to StZak to show the way and eventually found the indoor cave. Went up and came out near like 20 Timberwolves which was pretty wicked finding them in heavy fog ended up staying in the fishing hut overnight and almost froze. This region is like totally awesome.
I heard your prayer and answered, but your wish was granted at the cost of more timberwolves
Cabin fever can be a bit tricky in this region because the outdoor caves are spread pretty thin, but all the best base locations do still have a cave nearby
This region will be known for its massive amount of timberwolves instead of its temperatures. Not sure if it's what Hinterland was aiming for, but yeah.
Sigh... I wish I could watch this already. But I'm waiting for bug fixes and mod updates before I head in myself and want to go in blind. But I will watch it eventually! Just so you know. I'm sure there are other like me.
Tough region, hate the timberwolves, but great video, thanks.
On a spot on the fence at the weather station you can manage to go out of bounds
Just a thought. Can you travel out of the Sundered region and collect better gear ,food and torches then go into this region?
Of course. Not in this challenge, though
Omg I fell down the gap at 10:20😭
wow so its possible , cant believe it. i went over it (running) my heart froze when i saw the gap
Zak, my friendly friend, you are an amazing TLD player when you know the variables/probability etc. However your decision making with off the cuff unknowns are terrible........so terrible I was thoroughly entertained with this video, if only you could make more content like this..... loved it, keep up the good work.
You missed a green box just after you took water from the toilet in the wrecked cabin. Someone else probably already told you but you never know.
I also did a blind playthrough but found out you go up on top of the roof on the cabin he tried to get too, between the timber wolvers. That house is big and might make for a decent base but it comes with timbers.
w...top 🤔 I really don't know that word 😅 and yes I like Hobbit movies ... that was a tough one! good night ...
great run and great video btw - I couldn't do this! was to tired yesterday and to concentrated 😂
