Will this help with my speech? I'm 10 days post-op and I feel more embarrassed to be out in public now with my terrible change in voice than I ever did with bad teeth. This temp denture is so big in my mouth

Hi Mark! I’m almost 4 weeks post op and just had a soft reline this last Tuesday. My concerns are the gaps between my dentures and my gums are pretty significant. Will the hard reline fix this? They stuck out quite a bit making them frustrating and uncomfortable to wear. Please tell me it gets better 😔

I'm not Dr. Mark but hopefully I can shed some light for you. Ideally, there shouldn't have this big of a gap since it's supposed to transition from the soft reline material to the flanges of your acrylic denture. This is an easy fix, you'll likely need another soft reline in few more months since your bone is still remodeling post-extractions. Just let your dentist know during that visit that the gap is bothersome for you and have her/him trim the reline material and denture junction at an angle so it blends/transition better between the soft reline material and the denture. Same applies to the hard reline down the road, it should be trimmed to transition smoothly. You can probably call and schedule for a quick adjustment now if it's really bothering you.

Can I expect my dentures to not dislodge while eating after a soft reline? Thank you very much.

This would be hard to say as everything is possible .
Speaking for the majority of cases though, high 90%, a soft Reline does help the denture stay in the mouth .
If it’s a full upper , and you have no lower molars, these cases can be tricky as the lower molars help the upper stay in place .
Hope that helps . Maybe chat to your clinician to see what’s the possible cause .

    Are all relines silicone?

Hi Lauren, no Definately not , most relines will be with a hard acrylic base . It’s a permanent reline . These generally last for years, unless the gums change shape for any number of reasons , which can include weight loss, having operations , getting sick etc…
The soft relines , they are generally temporary after having extractions . Although you can actually have a soft permanent base. These are not very common but are available from some dental prosthetists .
      Hope that helps

My dentist wants $560.00! That was last year’s price. Don’t have it and insurance won’t cover it!

I'm looking into DIY. I discovered this company, US Dental Corp. They have a soft reline kit 2 pk for $77 (same materials dentists use) They have been around for 50+ years.
They are a Christian company. Hope this helps.
      God bless
