- Grizzly Bear performing, "All We Ask" on Black Cab Sessions. Great alternate version of the original, taken off their latest album Veckatimest.

I love Ed's vocals, don't get me wrong. But when Daniel sings...I don't care about anyone else in the world. He is so captivating. Additionally, this is my favorite song on Veckatimest. Beautiful.
I second that lovely comment :)
Always have admired Daniel's musicianship, heavily!
Daniel's voice almost sounds double-tracked when he starts singing. That cab has amazing acoustics. Also, Daniel Rossen is an angel.
Was thinking the same! Some people are just born with good pipes!
I've always thought the same. Like a light reverb on it. Beautiful
this song is equally beautiful and depressing. I can't stop listening to it.
the same vocal riff for the the ''carnival is calling'' us as the ''southern point is calling us'' bit..part of the interconnections and layers that make veckatimest so brilliant
A fragment of time solidified in 2009, back when possibilities were vibrant.
the harmony towards the end is so ridiculously good and effortless
The most beautiful band I've ever seen play. Last night was one of the best nights of my life and I'm never going to forget it. Literally touched me to tears.
If i was the cab driver they would have had to do 80 takes because I would have been singing along.
such a tortured and beautiful song
utterly mind-blowing. i don't even understand it. it's just a well written song with some nice harmonies, but for some reason my jaw drops open when i listen to this song..
I honestly think this might be one of the best acoustic performances of all time.
My favorite thing - when we get both Ed AND Daniel on lead vocals. Taylor's gorgeous falsetto in the background. DAMN. They're just freakishly beautiful.
Can't get over how beautiful this song is! Chills...everytime.
the vibrato in daniel's voice
Great song, great harmonies. Daniel Rossen has an other-worldly voice. Really unique. Not to mention his sense of melody. The guys are for real.
"I can't get out of what I'm into with you" ...the harmonies during that line SLAY.
Drummer didn't stay behind, he's to the right of Droste playing the tambourine and singing. Such a talented bunch of guys...
How satisfying it has to be being able to pull something off like this...
can't...stop...replaying..
Its a shame black cab is gone now. This was one of the best.
this is fucking amazing. i was just watching fleet foxes black cabs session, but my god... this cant be topped.
could this be any more beautiful? i think not. wonderfully done.
wow, i never fantasised about being a cab driver....... before this.....
i need this in my life forever
never have I read a youtube comment that was more perfect. This is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. I just saw them in Chicago this past monday (9/28/09) and I have to say I have never seen a more talented band. They are so good its scary.
some good ass sound quality, especially for a cab ride jam
how can four dude sitting in the back of a cab sounds more textural and unique than the majority of popular music today?
They are amazing.
Surreal, yet beautiful.....
Grizzly Bear never fail.
THERE SO AMAZINGGGGGG!! LOVE THEM THERE THE NEXT BEATLES
Absolutely incredible that they can pull this off in the back of a moving car. Real talent is so hard to find nowadays.
they sound amazing
4:00-4:06 POW!! perfect timing for the best part of the song.
Beautiful
@danielleRcole i saw them with radiohead last year. best concert of my entire life
There's good music, and then there's good music played by good musicians. That's how they can sound good on a stage or in the back of a cab.
loss for words...wow
Who's still listening to this in 2017?
Ignacio Felix in 2018!☺️
2018
Ignacio Felix Me!
I'm still listening at the end of 2018
2019
I loved every second of this amazing video!
Their harmony is perfect!!
I listen to this song every morning on my way to work on the bus.
one of the only times one would wish to be a tambourine
cue crude joke about being on chris bears lap whilst i get tapped...
oh yeah, i went there
Holy shit
***** Yep feeling pretty much the same here
"I can't
Get out
Of what I'm into
With you."
I love this song and them very much. I especially dig the harmonies in that line.
Wow. These guys are amazing. Ed Droste has such a beautiful and classical voice. Their music makes me think of a fairytale. :) Awesome.
Totally. The quality is so awesome for being in a cab. True talent!
@noonelikesalexD Yes!!! There is something so Beatle-esque about them.
Lyrics:
In this old house, I'm not alone
In a bedroom, a telephone
You made the call and I just stood by
I stripped the sheets and emptied out the sty
And the crowds that light the carnival
Are calling us home, calling us home
And all we want's another voice
To lead us along, lead us along
Lead us along
Even wasting my time with you
Doesn't matter if I think it through
You took the car around the bend
And ran it in the ground, let's pretend
And the crowds that light the carnival
Are calling us home, calling us home
And all we want's another voice
To lead us along, lead us along
Lead us along
I can't
Get out
Of what I'm into
With you
I can't
Get out
Of what I'm into
With you
I can't
Get out
Of what I'm into
With you
I can't
Get out
Of what I'm into
With you
Grizzly Bear - The future: POW!
appropriate indeed.
Their voices blend so well. I have loved everything they have ever put out. I find something in each of their songs that make me love the songs individually and completely whole.
tremenda interpretación!
Epic tambourine.
Wasn't really aware of Grizzly Bear until I stumbled upon their show at Austin City Limits. They are Brilliant live. Not a lot of groups can be as spectacular live as they are recorded. Grizzly Bear definitely can.
I believe they ran a red light, but enjoyed!
first off im super jealous of the camera man.... he just sat less then 2 feet away from the entire band while they played the fuck outta that song.
really cool video black cab. i love all these small pages posting videos of great bands in obscure and in this case moving places.
finally youtube is good for something.
Why is it people i know they dont have idea who's grizzly bear? Grizzly bear is epic!!!!!!!!
I'm not really a fan of this band, but if their album sound like this, I would play it constantly. I listened to the studio track and this one back to back and their acoustic sound stripped down is far more rich. You can't really hear the harmonizing on the album track. I love this recording!
Black Cab is the crucible for good musicians. The lack of space limits you with instruments, and cars are pretty much dead acoustically, which strips the vocalist of even the slightest amount of resonance. It's almost a challenge. "Come and play your music in this car. We dare you to sound good."
at first i thought: "musical recitals inside of moving cab??? how stupid is that???"
but i'm as wrong as possible this, the one with fleet foxes and MMJ's are very intimate felt performances i love these series i think i'll keep track of them ñ_ñ
how bullshit are they. this is what music should be about. if you can kill in the back of a cab you are a true artist, if you need a huge stage and lights and hundreds of hours of studio time you still have some work to do...IMHO
it's sad that we're amazed that they sound this good in real life, because that's how it should be. you should sound the same no matter what. unlike all the studio bands that sound like shit live.
The tuning here is just D tuned, plus the all the strings are down one step. (the album version is just DADGBE) I never found a tab, but I do have a cover posted that might help you figure it out.
While I'd say Fleet Foxes is better than Grizzly Bear (though, I know, they've only released one full album), I have to agree with you. Grizzly Bear is full of very talented musicians.
this is so beautiful
and so are you, chris bear~
i want to take a ride in this cab
btw
@secretcompartment i love your comment
Does anyone have any idea where I can find the tab for this? looks like Daniel might be playing in an odd tuning.
dittoooo
oh my god, when they ALL sing together at 3:37...the richness of their harmony is RIDICULOUS
i love this version better much more than the albums, its the end that does it for me. It feels different
@HohMahGawcheck out Rossens sideline band- called Department of Eagles as they be bloody great.
ahaha true thing,,,grizzly bear is like nothing i have ever heard in my life. It's a great fucking band!
I completely agree with Southern Point being amazing. Daniel Rossen has such a smooth, easygoing voice.
This looks like a very uncomfortable cab...
Grizzlt Bear make the music I dream of making, except they make it better than I do in my dreams
@LucidDream That is one of my favorite lines from any song ever. It's always in my head. So good.
Damn! How do you get this quality performance in the back of a taxi cab? Dat harmony indeed!
I love the time in my life that this album reflects on. Love these guys.
I love the black cab sessions, though it bugs me a LOT that the cab isn't actually black.
nobody talks about Christopher voice !!?
i came
someday, I will Jam with them.
They're doing this in the back of a cab and they still sound crazy good....that's nuts!
check the drummer in lullabye and you'll never question his excellence again
The musicality is just incredible, they are just great!
Unreal music...I can't fucking describe it....I'm almost jealous!
the lower key center adds to this version quite a bit. I like it.
Only 70 thousand views? More people need to witness this.....
Anywhere to find/ purchase a high quality version of this performance?
wow, he sings in lullabye? is he the background "aaahhhh"?
how is it that all of them have equally beautiful voices?
To my ear: the tuning is DADGBe, with each string -1 quarter step ( to the left between any 2 notes on a chromatic tuner) basically just not tuned to A440.
that would ruin the whole essence of the session...
MUSICIANS.
love this song!!!! it makes me want to pee!!!! :D
this sound a lot like jeff buckley. A LOT...
@fede018 Jeff Buckley doesn't own beauty.
i love this so much better then the album version. Theres something just so raw yet so perfect about it. i mean there in the back of a cab for heavens sake! i could NEVER do something so amazing as this or just so... pure, i guess.
this video makes me happy to be alive.
fuckin grizzly bear....so fuckin tight
how are they so good? haha i love it
better version than on "veckatimest"
grizzly bear's drumming is notably awesome, its never just a normal, predictable beat. thats what make them amazing. and yes, they are incredible live, ive seen them.
