I used to be a marine mammal trainer back in the 80's and I trained 3 leopard seals. This doco is wonderful and really supports all the knowledge I discovered about these magnificent animals iduring those times. Leopard seals also have a soft side too and a bit of a sense of humour. Hi Andy, I wouldn’t have thought it safe to train a Leopard Seal. I surfed for 40 odd years, mostly in the Southern Hemisphere, and big bull seals ( not sure what variety) have shooed me out of the water more often than sharks. Their motive has always been to get me away from their haram.
I had a dream of being one inside a pool, and I can't stop thinking about the creature itself, the level of fascination never fades either, I know this is my spirit animal, I feel comfortable and fulfilled with the idea. This is truly my most favorite animal, and it's most definitely the most intriguing

Fortunately two friends nearby grabbed him and after a serious tug of war pulled him to safety. It took a long time to heal from the wound.

The lady that was killed whilst snorkelling in Antarctica was an unfortunate accident I believe and cameramen who’ve dived with them have reported that although initially threatening they don’t set out to harm them, there was one film where a leopard seal was trying to feed the camera man a penguin it had caught which although disturbing to us the narrator felt that the seal saw the cameraman as similar to itself or even juvenile seal it even followed the boat back to shore and stuck around for some time after.
Ideally, I’d want an Orca friend looking out for me if I was ever in the water with a leopard seal. Pretty outlandish scenario, (to say the least), but I can think of no better oceanic protector.

Orcas fling seals for the fun of it. Half the time they don't even eat the kill. Bugs will eat our trash half the time, there is no such thing as waste... the waste your thinking of is wasting money on food that you won't finish.
Penguin Parents chasing after that baby looks like a bad teen being chased by mom n dad for getting caught sneaking out, taking the car without permission or being caught with weed 😆 🤣
scientists still dont know why the seals get up on the iceberg floats instead of going to land? Cmon really? I got a few for ya...1 it keeps them at, above, and around their hunting grounds with quick access to the water....and 2 it rocks back and forth, which land cannot do, hence why they sleep on them as well. 3- They lay on the ice waiting to see a penguin or 2 jump up on the iceberg with them and then they know it's time to go catch some food. Penguins cant breath under water so they swim from land to iceberg to iceberg so naturally if they are your prey u gonna hang out at icebergs! DUH!!!!
@@NIGHTOWL-jf9zt leopard seals live on antarctic waters while polar bear live on the arctic circle. They're literally at both ends of the world. Both apex predators of their respective habitats though occasional visits from orcas are a threat.

When I was a kid a leopard seal tried to eat me and my friends. It attacked us on a school trip lol, it almost got this little girl tui, but this Year 8 kid threw a swim between the flag poll in front of it and saved our lives. EDIT: I was like 6 when it happened.
Dear friend, once you get to the Antarctic you will find that there a millions of penguins, of all kinds, so do not fret as they will survive and worry about the leopard seals!
The juveniles of all species are super vulnerable to predators attacks, including those of the predators themselves. Quite sure that the of the leopard seals offspring less than 30-40 % reach adulthood if that. The adult penguins are extremely agile and almost out of reach for the leopard seals and they are predators on their own right, just about everything in the ocean is.
So hard to watch these seals torture the penguin. I get it has to eat, but why make it suffer? Going to search for whales killing leopard seals SLOWLY to make me feel better.
