On headphones Alt-J does sounds pretty excellent but with a sound system beyond your dreams it will always trump a top headphone set up. I have all 3Alt-J albums in 24/192 audio quality and they're a dream to listen to through a pair of Raidho speakers.

Imagine being 17, driving your car across the country, windows down, sun rising, the most beautiful sky you can think of, your favorite people in the car with you, playing this album as you all silently fly down the highway.
Did exactly this with 3 of my best friends. Visited Pittsburgh, PA to watch Alt-J perform at Stage AE then headed South through the mountains to Front Royal, Virginia to do a section hike of the Appalachian Trail. Alt-J was playing the entire trip, definitely one of my fonder memories.

Not really. Although they clearly reference the famous actor and even his work with the movie Alien with the line "Chest bursts like John Hurt" who played Kane in Alien, they said it was written "about an old friend who grew a beard and got tattoos." I still don't know what the song is about. I haven't gone to a song lyrics meaning site yet like Songmeanings or better yet, Genius.

I remember my handler feeding me these exact lyrics 12 years ago I thought I was special really something writing them down hearing the hymns. Little did I know it was just a trick a show for a billionaire daddy a "I see in the future trough your eyes" kind of trickery. One that lets you know you are really something of dreams and decisions made by white coats and dollar bills dead presidents and future losers

I think the references to 'woodwork', 'Jeremiah' and 'gospels' links it to the the Jeremiah Gospel, in which a meteorite named Wormwood falls to earth and leaks poison into the drinking water. The references to John Hurt's chest-burster scene reflect a similar insidious and malevolent force occupying something and 'coming out of the woodwork'. I love how interesting and meaningful Alt-J's lyrics can get when you look close at them.

When she went back to London, for some reason i like.. instantly recalled that she told me i should give alt-J a try. So i went to youtube and typed it in > saw the name of this song > immediate Alien reference > immediate awesomeness beyond reason. This song is absolutely fucking amazing. I love this band. They're so chill. It's one of those those bands that just makes you think about life and freedom and happiness, kinda like boards of canada but less abstract. It almost opens my mind in such a way that It doesn't just make me appreciate the music these people make but everything people make, it restores faith in humanity and reminds me of the sacred virtues that make us us. It's inspiring... what a band

i heard of this band as a recommendation.. didn't know where to start tho.. then i saw the title of this song.. and being a big fan of the Alien series which started in 79' where John Hurt was playing and got his chest ripped.. i knew i gotta listen to this one.. and was absolutely blown to bits.. it's absolutely brilliant... especially the moment at 4:20 .. completely serene and tantric..
