  • Hello everyone, and welcome back!
    Here's my step-by-step guide for clearing Arcade Original with Type-Z. Feel free to use whatever will be helpful but remember my approach is not the only way and may not be the route that serves you best - so be open to whatever works for you.
    I think I was too close to the mic, so the commentary is a little scratchy but I'm not recording this a third time, so it is what it is.
    Anyway, let me know if you have any questions, comments or if you require further explanation for any part of this.
    Enjoy the run and all the best with Arcade Original;)

    Thanks for this. I appreciate guides with commentary. Between this and your Novice 1cc, I was able to get a 1cc on Novice less than a day after getting CC. I managed to get 1cc's on Novice Original and Boost with all ships, and even a single Arrange Original 1cc due to the foundational knowledge I developed watching your videos.
    The game's Superplay feature has a lot of good prerecorded score runs with links to a bit of commentary, but the in-depth approach you take on videos like these helps so much more. I appreciate that you talk about the process and your progress. It adds perspective and speaks to the journey and helps inform my own approach. I'm nowhere near the level I want to be at, but I've progressed further than I ever thought possible. Thanks again for that.

      Huge congrats on the clears Michael, this is awesome news! I appreciate the feedback and yeah, I always strive to provide tangible information. It's not always about what to do on screen but all the background stuff as well. Without specific thought process details being shared, we might never know that a player is avoiding something out of apprehension. If everyone watching that adopts the same method, then there are a lot of people avoiding something that they may not find to be an issue for them even though it was for someone else.

    This was really well done, and I like how you paused the replay to explain things further. I play on the Switch and forget that I can pause the gameplay to elaborate on something before the run advances too far. The bouncing section of the stage 5 boss always gets me, so your notes on how to route past that will be very helpful

    Thanks for you comments and explanations. It really helped me, since (like you said) there are not too much information about the game mechanisms and how to play it. I stayed in Novice Mode, but pushed it in terms of scoring. Then I followed your example : uploading a video to explain the things I found about how to score. Although it adress a very limited number of people : shmup is far from being the most popular video game genre nowadays... and among these people, there are even less playing for score !

Came back to it a couple weeks ago after honing some skills in other games. Most satisfying clear I've experienced, any genre. Thanks for the video. I'm currently stumped on stage 3 like everyone else, so this will help. I also heard The Electric Underground say he kept stars low to keep rank low, but from testing on the EX boss I don't really notice the difference between hundreds of thousands of stars. (I think he also misunderstood the final extend is 700 rather than 450.) I haven't decided if I'm going for a high star approach. You might have discussed this in the rest of the video -- I haven't watched the entire thing yet.

    • @Shmuptopia
      @Shmuptopia  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hey, there! Thanks for checking this out and letting me know where things are at for you in your own runs. Some people will intentionally keep rank low to have an easier time in games that have rank systems. I personally don't play that way because I am not into the idea of needing to make the game easier for me. This goes hand in hand with not wanting to hold myself back from fully engaging with and enjoying the mechanics of a game since I like pushing things to the limit, but to each their own. It's however people want to play or tackle these games and experiences. There is a bit of a difference hundreds of thousands of stars but you won't necessarily notice it unless you've really gotten used to practicing at one star count compared to a much higher one - and even then, it's not a night and day difference like you'd seeing in Rolling Gunner between something like rank 25 and rank 36-40. In my run, I knew I wasn't shooting for 700 but I was certainly going for a high star count with the intention of always soaking up as many score-related lives as possible for the sake additional longevity. Also, I was using the analog stick on the Nintendo Switch pro controller at the time, so if you watch my actual clear, the tlb is a sloppy mess with many overshot inputs and whatnot. I don't recall precisely how clean things were executed for this guide, but definitely let me know if you have any questions. On that note, what input device are you using? Stage 3 is a massive wall for many players and I've put together a number of private videos for specific stages when people have needed a little guidance - so if it will help you grasp stage 3 better, I could send a link your way from one I did a year or so ago. Thanks again!

    • @tjames975
      @tjames975 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@Shmuptopia Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I just tried your approach and cleared stage 3 for the first time without a lot of panic-bombing. It was super sloppy so let me practice some more. I'm using the Xbox Elite controller with the D-pad dish. Someone turned me on to using the dish and I like it a lot. I wanted to use stick but I get a lot of RSI in this game from pressing the lock-on button over and over. The back buttons really help with it. Maybe not the ideal controller but now I want to use it to prove that it can be done! I have about 80-90 hours in the series over the last 10 years but I'm only 6-7 hours into the 1CC grind after telling myself I'd do it for the last decade. I think resources like this and the Shmup Junkies training log help demystify the challenge. I know it will take a lot of practice but I think I now have the tools to make it happen.

      @@BeugsTheLegend No problem, so if you're using a bomb after the first break is activated and you don't want to be doing this then you may want to experiment with a bit of point blanking. The gauge builds very quickly which you can see me doing right at the start of the run. The only other alternative would be to always watch your gauge after the break node is activated to make sure you see when the second has finished filling up. Unless of course, you have both full before even firing off the first break mode. I trust this helps!

    Trying to do Arcade Original, I can't get over 49k stars, with the 10k bonus at the end. When I try to copy your point blank route, I get sniped from off-screen, and my lock-ons don't happen as fast as yours. Mine seem really slow with type-z. Is there a trick to locking on faster? If I can't match your first level, the rest of the run falls apart because I don't have nearly enough lives to survive.

    • @Derpasaurusrex1
      @Derpasaurusrex1 Год назад

      Hey Michael, for some reason I wasn't notified of this comment so please excuse the delayed response! I just happened to be on this video responding to something else and noticed this! Honestly, it took me a lot of experimentation and fiddling with the lock-on + point blanking before I was able to nail decent star counts for stage 1 but bit by bit things fell into place and then it was just second nature. Despite your runs feeling like they fall apart, my best advice is to actually not worry about how stage 1 star counts go - that'll improve the more you play and experiment but I suggest not getting too hung up on it. The important thing is to simply play and experience the game regularly and you'll observe things here and there where you can adjust or improve things. I trust this helps!

    You can start the break - double break earlier on boss 3. When i was super bad a year back and was grinding this, i would do the first break at about 12 o'clock and the 2nd at around 9 to 7 o'clock, then the pattern ends and you phase into the final phase and can even get a bit of double break damage in. Nearly idiot proof, and far easier than what you showed there.
