I don't understand how they thought these prices would work out. Dbd characters are 5$ each in a 20$ game. 10$ for a character in a 40$ game is absolutely nuts. I am not paying that much for content in a game that's already near the price of a AAA game.
I am really surprised how expensive this is. I feel like pretty much every one of these things should be $5 and the premium stuff should be $10. I doubt any one I play with would buy any character at $10.
DBD characters are sold through an in-game currency, if you buy licensed characters directly then they often cost more (some DLC killers and survivors cost more than 5 dollars if you buy the DLC directly through Steam or whichever storefront you use). TCM is just a licensed game so putting out new, licensed content is going to be more expensive. That's how these contracts usually work out.
@@auctoritate8254yes but its basegame is literally double the price of dbd already there’s no way they’re in the absolute gutter and NEED to charge unreasonable amounts for characters, if they are in the gutter that’s on them, not the playerbase
I recently went back to Titanfall 2 and that games monetization was surprising to me. You can get 15 camos to use on all things for 3 dollars. 3 whole smackers. Which is crazy compared to these games these days charging their egregious prices for one single cosmetic
And the most expensive skins give you a entirely new Titan model + execution or for pilot weapons give you and your entire team a 10% stackable xp boost. God I miss Titanfall
It might have something to do with the fact that the cosmetics used in that game are probably less complicated and more "one size fits all" compared to something like turning Blight into William Birkin with voice lines, or creating an entirely new animation alongside an entirely new character model in some cases. Not trying to justify exorbitant DLC/skin prices by any means, just saying I could understand something more complex costing more than "armor turn pink now"
@@brad1426 Armor turn pink now was free. The really fancy shit, new Titan models were 5 bucks just like everything else. In fact no single cosmetic was over $5 though cosmetic packs (with 50 or more cosmetics) did go for $10 iirc
The phrase "I'm not sure how they don't see that as an issue" can be applied to so many of the choices that they've made for TCM. I've asked that repeatedly of the game ever since they revealed random perk nodes on the progression preview stream.
The most mindboggling choice that they have made and haven't gone back on is the removal of crossplay. That was one of the absolute worst decisions they've made by far. "Let's restrict crossplatform friends from being able to play with each other entirely for a few months. I'm sure this won't be an issue in the long run."
@@awardments Most definitely. Many of their customers made purchase decisions based on the existence of crossplay. You don't just invalidate that. When they first announced it I figured the game would be dead before it gets turned back on. They have yet to convince me otherwise.
@@awardments LOL I mean u can complain about the zero anti cheat but literally everysingle online game with cross play gets it so they can remove it. dbd took what like 6 years to add it. PC gamers will always suffer from cheaters and console players shouldn't have to deal with that. cross play been off for like what 3 weeks now give it time they already implemented anti cheat + a patch
The worst thing is that, from whats been shown around with leaks, the new characters are extremely strong as well, and so it really is an argument of pay2win monetization.
I'm loving TCSM so much, and while the devs have been super responsive to feedback (more responsive than a lot of devs I've seen!), a lot of the choices I've seen made have been questionable at best, and concerning in the worst cases. Like when they responded to the feedback on Slaughterhouse being massively victim-sided due to its size and pressure tanks being in the basement and proceeded by...adding an extra fusebox spawn by pressure exit? (Maybe I'm wrong and that's just the first of several planned changes?) Or like when they mentioned on the subreddit that they wanted to improve stealth to make it a viable alternative to just pumping proficiency to ~46 and rushing and instead are nerfing 50 stealth for the scrounging mini-game? Or the inane justification they gave for random perks and how they're ignoring people's critique on them just being annoying for people who know what build they want and are just brute forcing by abusing infinite respecing? Or how they gave needless CD nerfs to Connie and Leland's ults. (CD doesn't impact the former's strength AT ALL for victims who know what they're doing, since most games are short enough that you only use it once per game anyways; the latter was a response to chaining stuns which got fixed anyways with the family basekit buff last patch! Should absolutely be reverted back, IMHO.) Add to that queue times getting worst due to waning interest and them STILL having crossplay turned off for PC despite cheaters being nowhere near as prominent as they were a few weeks ago. Again, LOVE the game and think the team is awesome for the amount they're doing despite their size, but can't really look away from such major fumbling going on.
Actually, regarding the fuse box change that was because you could get a certain fuse spawn that was downright imposible to defend, if you got the fusebox by the sliding door (a spawn that is no longer avaible) you only had to go downstairs and escape, I have actually escaped in under a minute because of that. Valve exit also needs adressing but I think at this point is due to the valves themselves spawning in very accesible areas, they did remove the bonescraps near the pressure tank (Or I've been really lucky and haven't seen them anymore). The game needs work but I am hopeful they are not going to do dumb changes, at least from what I've seen so far.
i leveled up connie originally because i liked her appearance more than the rest and because she’s broken i never ever got to actually play her. i gave up and leveled up sonny because he seemed fun too and almost like the game knew every match i get there is a level 10 connie and level 10 sonny and like a level 3 jennifer or whoever. i feel like if i try to level anyone the game will just pair me with someone who’s already maxed that character out so i have to play a lvl 1 guy, and yeah i don’t have everyone at 10 because tcm just doesn’t scratch the itch i thought it would, so i still mostly play dbd.
the one thing im worried about is the fact that the characters could be completely locked behind a paywall, even though the game is 40 fucking dollars. I hope there will be currencies you can earn so everyone can experience the new characters
Honestly, they could do the system you mwntionwd where you que up for the character you want to be auto put into a ready lobby, and it could work if they do a incentive system where maybe you get 1 free level or like double xp for picking a role or character thats least played, to give people reason to use the feature, and help with que times
I think they're flying WAY too close to the sun with this one. After removing crossplay and not having content for almost two months, they need to reel people back in and give them a reason to play. I don't mind paying for new content, but ALL new content being locked behind paywalls is a horrible idea. The prices are insane and you'll rarely get to use new characters since most people just dodge lobbies until they get to play who they want (The leatherface shortage also contributes to this). Danny can permanently unlock exits and Nancy gets a direct view of a victim with no effort unlike cook. No one will want to play against characters that almost guarantee wins. It's starting to feel like a pay to win model. I just really dislike the hypermonetization that so many modern games have nowadays, I had hopes tcm wouldn't do this but :/
Currently what it looks like for me Phantom Liberty, a cyberpunk action spy thriller which unlocks a new skill tree, story and increases the level cap for £20~ Or a leather face animation change with some new skins for £15
As of right now, October first 2023. For 15 dollars USD or less on steam you can get: The Witcher 3 $11.99 Borderlands 2 $4.99 Dying light $8.99 4 Wolfenstien games $13.64 Fable anniversary ed $8.74 The ENTIRE bioshock series for $11.99 And those are just big name titles with sales there’s tons of indie gems with base prices below 15USD and those who don’t go on sale all the time
I agree that a lot of ppl will DC if they don't the character they want because thats already how it is in game but the issue is the causing that is the progression system. Lower leveled accounts will only be able to have one or two characters leveled at a time of course they will want to DC if can't play one of their leveled characters not necessarily because they can't play the new shiny thing. Siege, Overwatch, and many other games release characters and only one can be in a match at time and from my personal experience I never see ppl dcing over that.
Love how ppl were saying this would be the DBD killer and everyone boasting about how they left dbd for goot for TCM a month ago and now its a burning dumpsterfire
One of the pricing points that is weird to consider is that if you applied the DLC pricing to the base game; the base game would be 100+ dollars-but instead we have 10 characters and the game is 40 dollars. Something isn’t adding up about the price points.
Personally, I think they're just testing (orig: Q&A'ing) the pricing at the moment, as we've seen this before the game came out, so I think it's starting to become apart of their crafting recipe. May be wrong, though.
Yeah, it wasn't the right choice for the situation, however I was working on something else at the time and didn't really care all that much about fixing it. Cheers!@@AnotherDempsey
One of the developers seemed to be pretty adamant about the $10 price point for new characters. Unfortunately, I don't they're just testing the waters with this.
also keeping in mind that this game just.... doesnt have a lot of content, and theyre already planning dlc characters. Like yes, dbd didnt have a lot when it launched, but theyre not competing with launch day dbd, theyre competing with current dbd. Im not expecting 35+ free characters on launch, but this is kind of rough
(Posting before watching, just my opinion) So, the prices seem fair to me. Fortnite and Dead By Daylight charge as much and more for purely cosmetic skins. HOWEVER, my main gripe is that you're paying for DLC that you *might not even have access to* in a Public game. Family members already hold lobbies hostage if they don't get a character they want and people constantly bounce as Victim if they can only pick Sonny. Imagine the queue times when the next Family/Victim DLC drops ON TOP OF you might not even being able to use them at all if you bought it and want to play them, but someone else locked them in... With ALL THAT, I believe the prices are expensive, or they need to be released in pairs (2 Victims or 2 Family members) to help the queueu times. I will personally NOT be buying the DLC until like 2 weeks later if anything.
Maybe, just maybe they could allow for the same character to be played then multiply the ability cooldown per character, 4 connies 4x break lock cooldown (the game could start with the abilities on cooldown to avoid early use)... to be honest, i can't think of a way to mitigate the character availability problem
I will never support devs and companies who price cosmetics super high. Its what led to the state video games are in now-a-days. "it's just horse armor dont like it dont buy it." oh yeah that REALLY worked didn't it? People who say "I dont care how expensive cosmetics are" are genuinely almost as bad as the people who buy them.
It really suck cause the way to fix this is a role queue like overwatch especially when it'll help out with games where a cook and a jhonny decide to ready up on slaughterhouse practically guaranteeing a loss before the game starts. There should be leatherface, a tracker such as cook or jhonny and then a chaser like Hitch or sissy. Maybe two chasers on slaughterhouse? Ive noticed that works well too. But on the other hand me and the total of like 20 other people that enjoy playing leatherface will feel so pressured to only play him cause wait times will be terrible otherwise
The TCSM devs aren't very good. I'm amazed the game managed to last two weeks before burning out, frankly. Predatory microtransaction schemes in a competitive multiplayer game is zzz
I also don't care about the pricing of skins, if you want something to look different, you pay the price. 16$ is not much considering there are other games that charge up to 30$ for a premium skin. If you think it's too much, just don't buy it, it's "premium" for a reason. Now for the characters - actual content, 10$ is a lot comparing to dbd where you pay 5$ for licensed characters and every original chapter you can buy with in-game currency. Or compared to other games where you buy the battlepass with 10$, you get the new character for free, a bunch of skins and you also get a part, if not all of the premium currency back.
And on top of dbd beeing cheaper you also get iridescent shards which you can use to buy non licensed characters and even the licensed characters perks if they're in the shrine...
have people gotten so accustomed to being fucked over by outrageous pricing that they've totally forgotten the real value of things and now think it's normal
I'm very late to the party and it's a very different game, but Apex has cosmetic melee weapons and "prestige" skins (heirlooms) that are $160ish on release and then
So, this issue was present in Evil Dead The Game. That, you paid for a character, but there was a chance that someone else would take it, and you'd be shit out of luck. It sucked ass, waiting a long queue time, just for the new character you just bought to be picked by someone else. I really hope that this doesn't become a problem for this because it will absolutely be a massive detriment for the game. Especially since in evil dead, it was only an issue for the survivor since it was an asym like dbd with only one killer. Having 3 killers would make both sides terrible to play since it would just be people leaving lobbies every. Single. Time. Evil dead at least had the courtesy to give you a priority queue after the lobby quit out.
idk how the predator game was, but all new (gameplay) content in F13th was free and this feels like overcompensating in the other direction, like they want to avoid a situation like that again so badly that they just set whatever price they can in order to keep things profitable As much as I'd love to see people's creative and artistic visions realized, there has to be a point where you say "maybe we dont have the funds to make this the best way we can (yet)"
Yeah, they have to make money.. but they could've done that through cosmetics like they did in Friday. You know, the one thing that wouldn't have an affect on gameplay? All these reasons, plus the fact that Bubba is a mandatory character (cause nobody wants to play him), is going to sink this game. Also if y'all think game dodging is incredibly frustrating, imagine how old gen feels. We don't even get the option to cross play and the pool is so limited that I see the same people over and over and over. I was really bummed when I bought the fame only to find out that we don't get to play with pc and ps5, where a majority of friends are. I can't afford to upgrade, but I don't see why it was limited to begin with.
They should copy apex's format, and have 2 currencies. One you grind for, and one you can purchase with real money. Let people decide if they want it right away, or let them have the option to grind for it as well.
@larsliamvilhelm I like his takes on tcm! And ohh, yes same concept then. Definitely something that almost every game should have implemented for the health of micro-transactions and the longevity of said title
I doubt they'll release lone characters. They have the rights to create new canon characters and use their background to create new maps like Junkyard, surely the content won't be lacking (if game doesn't die due to poor decision making by gun by the time a second DLC is due)
I don't mind paying $10 for pair of characters + perks, besides they been slow with new real content (e.g. maps etc.). The problem that I have with that is that the way the game is set up, you'll pay to play that character then you can't because when you join a lobby someone else has it so then you have to lobby hopping. That will create a problem. The cosmetics price I really don't care about because I really don't buy skins. But yeah like you said, lobby hopping problem will be more aggravating than it is right now.
@@KtSuper There's no roadmap, or anything relating when new content is expected to drop. The fact they announced even did a trailer for the skin first is kinda a indicator is probably won't be soon.

One solution that i came to is that they can create "clones" of characters with different look. But gameplay wise they have same abilities. There is still going to be people who want to play THE cook, or THE Leland, but i think not too many to be a problen
Also body blocking the exit is the most terrible thing. If you are the last one alive you shouldn’t be able to get that quick escape. Like blocking the fuckkng door? Dude that’s some bitch shit straight up. At least make it wider
I’m hoping it’s just bad wording with the text in parentheses under the Character price tag, and that it’s the price of having one victim and one family member bundled in one
10$ for one character in a 40 dollar game that will die in a few months, compared to 5$ in a 20$ game that has been going strong for 7 years and doesn't seem like its going anywhere in the forseeable future. This will only speed up its inevitable demise
Just shows how ahead dbd is when it comes to literally everything. Cant think of one thing texas has over dbd other than 3rd person view for killers but that’s subjective and probably for balance

@@KtSupernot sure if you're referring to me but I didn't quit, but people will stop playing if they can't afford new stuff, especially if it's gonna be overpowered.
Why would they change pricing based off availability of the character on release? I think that's really silly to imagine them taking that into consideration frankly.
Games with pay-for-characters nowadays are FREE. Dead By Daylight is an exception for two reason; hacker issues, and Iri shards allowing you to buy the characters. This game should not copy DbD’s monetization system unless it actually plans to copy it. Otherwise it will sit as an expensive outlier to the genre.
TCM trying to already boost their live service sales and come out with characters that could have been in the base game to help with the lack of content, oooooooof this wont last long
Let’s be honest TCM creators know what a lot of us have said already, this game is not going to have a long shelf life. They’re cashing in while they can.
queue times will only be bad for the person trying to play that character. everyone else who still wants to play bubba and cook or whatever won't have bad queues.
I still haven't played this game and for the simple fact that I looked at the price and I just can't do that right now. There's so many other games that I'm still waiting to get that are still very high-priced. Now if it would have been between $20 to $30 I might have just busted out the credit card or something. I don't understand how they thought these prices would work out. Dbd characters are 5$ each in a 20$ game. 10$ for a character in a 40$ game is absolutely nuts. I am not paying that much for content in a game that's already near the price of a AAA game.
They be like: 20/5 = 40/10
I am really surprised how expensive this is.

I recently went back to Titanfall 2 and that games monetization was surprising to me. You can get 15 camos to use on all things for 3 dollars. 3 whole smackers. Which is crazy compared to these games these days charging their egregious prices for one single cosmetic

@@thenewgamer64 Yeeeeah $25 for a "cool" skin.

@eternaljade2k154 that's an issue that should have been considered when designing the game
@eternaljade2k154can you imagine how cringe 4 Connie’s on gas station would be?
The phrase "I'm not sure how they don't see that as an issue" can be applied to so many of the choices that they've made for TCM. I've asked that repeatedly of the game ever since they revealed random perk nodes on the progression preview stream.
Amateurs
The most mindboggling choice that they have made and haven't gone back on is the removal of crossplay. That was one of the absolute worst decisions they've made by far. "Let's restrict crossplatform friends from being able to play with each other entirely for a few months. I'm sure this won't be an issue in the long run."
@@awardments Most definitely. Many of their customers made purchase decisions based on the existence of crossplay. You don't just invalidate that. When they first announced it I figured the game would be dead before it gets turned back on. They have yet to convince me otherwise.

The worst thing is that, from whats been shown around with leaks, the new characters are extremely strong as well, and so it really is an argument of pay2win monetization.
DBD has its problems, but at least I can play the character I want every game
Should absolutely be reverted back, IMHO.)
Add to that queue times getting worst due to waning interest and them STILL having crossplay turned off for PC despite cheaters being nowhere near as prominent as they were a few weeks ago.
Cool xenomorph cosplay, scott!
texas chainsaw was a 2 month game in my eyes
i leveled up connie originally because i liked her appearance more than the rest and because she’s broken i never ever got to actually play her. i gave up and leveled up sonny because he seemed fun too and almost like the game knew every match i get there is a level 10 connie and level 10 sonny and like a level 3 jennifer or whoever.
i feel like if i try to level anyone the game will just pair me with someone who’s already maxed that character out so i have to play a lvl 1 guy, and yeah i don’t have everyone at 10 because tcm just doesn’t scratch the itch i thought it would, so i still mostly play dbd.
the one thing im worried about is the fact that the characters could be completely locked behind a paywall, even though the game is 40 fucking dollars. I hope there will be currencies you can earn so everyone can experience the new characters
Spot on. Also I’m not spending money on this game until crossplay is fixed, which was a major reason I purchased TCM in the first place.
Executions can be P2W if they are the fastest or provide good vision around yourself during it.
I think they're doing a good job of keeping kill times similar
@larsliamvilhelm any minute advantage is p2w nowadays.
Pay for efficiency.
Even if they weren't, 7 dollars is pretty outrageous for an animation.
@@Synnabelle Lol I don't think the kill animation where Leatherface slams your face on his weapon is faster. It's so slow.
Honestly, they could do the system you mwntionwd where you que up for the character you want to be auto put into a ready lobby, and it could work if they do a incentive system where maybe you get 1 free level or like double xp for picking a role or character thats least played, to give people reason to use the feature, and help with que times
1 free level is kinda outrageous with how it seems they want the XP grind to be but a character queue system would be AMAZING for this game
I just really dislike the hypermonetization that so many modern games have nowadays, I had hopes tcm wouldn't do this but :/
Currently what it looks like for me
Phantom Liberty, a cyberpunk action spy thriller which unlocks a new skill tree, story and increases the level cap for £20~
Or a leather face animation change with some new skins for £15
R.I.P. Texas Roadhouse Game.
As of right now, October first 2023. For 15 dollars USD or less on steam you can get:
The Witcher 3 $11.99
Borderlands 2 $4.99
Dying light $8.99
4 Wolfenstien games $13.64
Fable anniversary ed $8.74
The ENTIRE bioshock series for $11.99
And those are just big name titles with sales there’s tons of indie gems with base prices below 15USD and those who don’t go on sale all the time
I agree that a lot of ppl will DC if they don't the character they want because thats already how it is in game but the issue is the causing that is the progression system.
It’s not rlly a dumpster fire lmao this is the big mistake they’ve made still better than dbd tho
This pricing is exorbitant across the board.
Do you know what Q&A means...?
Jcott Sund
A gaming subreddit in a tizzy? Hold the fort!
They should have a separate mode where everyone on the team can play the same character. Like what Overwatch has
I didn't know you were a PoE fan. Did you play this league?
I'm very late to the party and it's a very different game, but Apex has cosmetic melee weapons and "prestige" skins (heirlooms) that are $160ish on release and then
Characters should never be more expensive than cosmetics
So, this issue was present in Evil Dead The Game. That, you paid for a character, but there was a chance that someone else would take it, and you'd be shit out of luck. It sucked ass, waiting a long queue time, just for the new character you just bought to be picked by someone else. I really hope that this doesn't become a problem for this because it will absolutely be a massive detriment for the game. Especially since in evil dead, it was only an issue for the survivor since it was an asym like dbd with only one killer. Having 3 killers would make both sides terrible to play since it would just be people leaving lobbies every. Single. Time. Evil dead at least had the courtesy to give you a priority queue after the lobby quit out.
idk how the predator game was, but all new (gameplay) content in F13th was free and this feels like overcompensating in the other direction, like they want to avoid a situation like that again so badly that they just set whatever price they can in order to keep things profitable
As much as I'd love to see people's creative and artistic visions realized, there has to be a point where you say "maybe we dont have the funds to make this the best way we can (yet)"
Imagine playing for $10 for a character only to have a chance to them KEKW
@larsliamvilhelm I've never played so maybe lol
@larsliamvilhelm I like his takes on tcm! And ohh, yes same concept then. Definitely something that almost every game should have implemented for the health of micro-transactions and the longevity of said title
I doubt they'll release lone characters. They have the rights to create new canon characters and use their background to create new maps like Junkyard, surely the content won't be lacking (if game doesn't die due to poor decision making by gun by the time a second DLC is due)
They've already said said on reddit that one character is $10, but there MAY be bundles in the future.
I think you are very accurate in how this will pan out if the new characters are released in this current state
If a “full game” is worth $40, how is one cosmetic worth like 25% of that?
we've been playing get out of worm town, not only is the game only $8, for that price 7 of your friends can play with you for free.
Slow? The Game is like a month old?
I saw someone say that it’s $10 per character not a bundle

@@KtSuper There's no roadmap, or anything relating when new content is expected to drop. The fact they announced even did a trailer for the skin first is kinda a indicator is probably won't be soon.
