    Great to meet you at breakfast Saturday! You were way more coherent than I would’ve been after finishing the 200k haha. This is an awesome break down if I ever decide to step up from the 60k.

    Very interesting Alan. In my climate in Southern Spain we don’t see much of this type of riding and it’s fascinating to see your set up. Very comprehensive and I was surprised by the weight of the total set up (how light). This is being prepared on another level, but I would be worse as this type of riding would be like riding on the moon for me. Good luck and enjoy! All the best, Tim

    @1:51…what’s the tape on the brake lever clamp? Insulation, prevent chafing,…?

    • @Uhmm485
      @Uhmm485 15 дней назад +1

      Camelback tube insulation material.

    • @DirtyTeethMTB
      @DirtyTeethMTB  14 дней назад +1

      The tape on the clamp is just electrical tape - a thin barrier of insulation against the bare metal in case I touch it… put it on for ITI and never removed it… helps more than you’d think :)

    Wow the flip flop pedals. I have a pair of shimano fake copy pedals from 98. They’re a cheap copy of the original red platform SPD DH pedals. It’s only on one side and they were a joke back then but work for me now on my street pedal bike to clip in for exercise or sneaker ride to bar or friends house. I had no idea anyone made new models like that on purpose. Thanks . I thought of using mine on my fat bike this winter, it’s my first time

    • @DirtyTeethMTB

      Yep just a foam pad for fat pursuit - would consider more adding a 2nd pad for a longer trip/multiple nights of sleep, but goal was to push through w/no sleep on this event - ride on!

    All the extras…Have you ever heard of someone taking an extra rear wheel thru axle in these ultras? Since I’m a guy who had one snap on me (cracked in two right in threads, where it threads into the frame) I think I might. Looking at my broken aluminum axle, it’s very light, thin aluminum. I guess just replace them after awhile. AL does fatigue over time. My axle was 3 years old.

    I have a damaged noes and is always cold ween camping or hopefully soon winter e-biking glamping.
    Does you're ride gear/noes distract ? I saw some clips of the coldest spots on earth looking like they have tape on there noses for frost bit. Any suggestions aside from cosmetic surgery ?
    PS. I got my noes bitten badly but not so bad that you can see.

    • @DirtyTeethMTB
      @DirtyTeethMTB  11 дней назад

      I have used frost tape, but usually I prefer a buff that’s been cut down - I put it over my cheeks and nose. Or I use a 45nrth baklava or a nose hat, etc - ride on!

    Are you bringing some sort of gauge so you can adjust your tire pressure for varied conditions?

    • @DirtyTeethMTB
      @DirtyTeethMTB  14 дней назад

      No gauge- I did use one to set my pressure before the start, but during the race I adjusted by feel / “squeezing” the tire - ride on !

  • @leonwrede9213
    @leonwrede9213 15 дней назад

    Hey there! I've been digging through your videos as I am currently planning a weeklong tour in hopefully freezing conditions. Low is expected at 14°F. I would seriously appreciate if you could give me some feedback!
    For gloves, you're bringing 5 pairs of gloves/mitts and two pairs of pogies on this one, did I get that right? Impressive! I was thinking one pair of medium weight fleece for most of the riding, a pair of down mitts for resting and a pair of insulated work gloves for collecting firewood at camp as I don't want to wreck the others. Then one pair of waterproof overmitts and some handwarmers for backup. I know pogies are awesome but I don't think I can justify the investment.
    On my feet I'll go with roomy gore-tex lined leather hiking boots and flat pedals, wearing medium to heavyweight merino socks. I don't really have experience with layering socks or using vapor barriers. Assuming the liner sock gets drenched in sweat, would you pack one for each day? I will be packing one dedicated pair for sleeping and one backup I assume.
    This will be a rather chill trip without big mileage but with semi-daily cabin stays to get a feel for things.
    I realise our conditions and bodies are different from each other but maybe you could tell me if I'm missing something obvious.

    • @DirtyTeethMTB
      @DirtyTeethMTB  8 дней назад +1

      I did not bring all that gear on the ride. I took it all with me to the race, and made "game time" choices based on the weather forecast, snow conditions, etc. Example, I chose between two sets of boots and two sets of pogies, and various riding gloves. Hope that clears it up a little. If you don't have pogies, I'd definitely recommend taking some chemical hand warmers just in case. Otherwise, your systems seem well thought out... spare socks is a must as you suss stuff out, and since you'll have cabins to dry stuff out, etc you should be fine and you'll learn a bunch!! Sounds like a blast :)

    Some Rhinowalk gear is great. (Some, really not so.) We need to know which. Don't put down something you find efective purely becasue it's inexpensive. FFS it's exclusive enough doing this stuff

      Tony, thanks for watching :) I wasn’t putting down the rhinowalk bag - IMO, it’s a cheap product that has served me as well or better than more expensive alternatives. I haven’t used anything else they make- if you have any insight I’d love to hear, and please tell me what FFS is- thanks!
