I know two seperate people that lost sons, it changed them forever. Parents are not supposed to bury their children

While I know that it is impossible for Eric to not think about his son...I remember either seeing or reading where Eric said that he "feels nothing" when he plays the song. He has in the sense of time, "gotten over" losing his son and the song is about him struggling with and making peace with it.

I saw Eric in 1992 on his first tour after Conor's passing. When he played "Tears in Heaven" that old saying "You could hear a pin drop" comes to mind. Twenty thousand plus people in just about complete silence. Amazin show, amazing artist. Luckily, I got to see him in 2015, this time with my wife who loves his music and had never seen him play live.

He doesn't seems to be a very emotional person who cries and shows his feelings but the music is his way to put out all his sadness...

I just read his autobiography, he grew up in a family where emotions were not shown very much. Same as I did, we are the same age, I was born in Denmark, Clapton was born in England, not unusual for that time and in Northern Europe.

How can a song be so wonderful and tragic at the same time?

Amazing! The last bit when the band stops and it is just him, his voice and the guitar is so beautiful...

You put a Stratocaster or a Martin in the hands of a once in a lifetime player and talent, and this iswhat you get, a masterpiece.

He writes a song to honor the tragic death of his son. and his career takes him to the rock and roll hall and he preforms at his induction. this had me crying just like it does every time. also i heard he has retired it from his set list. i guess its to hard to play al the time

It looks as though Paul Schaffer (the keyboardist and bandleader of David Letterman's house band for his Late Show -- "The World's Most Dangerous Band") -- is playing here along with other members of that band: Sid McGinnis on guitar, Anton Fig on drums (who has also played with Joe Bonamassa on tour, as one of the two drummers on stage), and Will Lee on bass. Paul has had a long career, playing for Dave for many years, and for the R&R Hall of Fame, SNL, and the Kennedy Center awards shows, among many other gigs. Much love to EC, too, for writing and performing such a memorable song. I hope he has found peace.

Harsh Mahateme. Hey! You can do better? Don't pick on Robbie. You ain't in the Rock Hall like Robbie is. Keep asking people if they want fries with that.

@@Onehappyworlds wow cause that's what you do? Ask people if they'd like a side of fries or a salad! Too bad for you, because when I dine where you work, I'm gonna turn you in to your manager for being impolite.
Side note: I'm a triple PhD, son! Be sure of who you're talking to. Those who can only dream of serving fries at McD, shouldn't imply that on others! Look at your life, loser! 🤙🏻
