The tube is a permanent part of the unit!?! So what happens when the tube dies of old age or gets broken? How will that affect the sound of the unit, assuming it'll still make sound!? But either way, I'm here to thank you for another great educational video Sandu. One that I most likely would never have the opportunity to learn a bit about. Thank you!!
It seems so. You can take it off, but you'll need to disassemble the unit yourself and swap the tube. The tube should work easily for at least ~3 years. ECC82 has a lifespan of 10.000 hours, do the math how much these will work for you.
I felt that Aune took a few steps back in the last years and adopted a more timid position sadly. Not as present as the other brands from the Dragon Empire. Love their designs and clean, transparent dacs. Hope this is a revival followed by a strong comeback. Nice unit with interesting architecture, like it.
They might came back in black you know. Hopefully something is already cooking in their labs and I hope that aren't chicken fries but some big @ss transistors.
Would this go together well with the Meze 109? Too bad it doesn't have an optical input though because I wanted to connect a Wiim mini and use this in bed. I know converters exist but if I do that it's going to be a mess of wires and boxes.
BD version is the Bluetooth version that doesn't use a DAC chip at all, basic version is the USB version and the TOTL one have the USB, Bluetooth and a metallic remote
Congratulation for the channell.. Im looking for upload the sound quality of thr 6xx..now driven by a fiio k5 pro ess.. Price range around 700 dollars.. Happy to have suggestions
I think it should be made illegal to own so many high end cans. The penalty must be harsh for offenders like you. Neaaah, don't mind me, I'm just jealous 😃 Nice warm unit, musicality is what we need these days.
Nicely Done.
I couldn't tell from the photo of the board if the tube was soldered in or not.
Thanks
Not soldered, it can be removed after opening up the case...so in theory, you could replace it after it's worn out
What a lovely piece.
Aune makes some solid stuff
Hard as a rock!

Apparently it's not "user serviceable" but my toolbox and work bench say otherwise lol

The instructions say it filters the music through the tube and a DAC together. Am I wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for great review as always! Wondering if the tube adds airiness and the size of the soundstage?
Yes, the Flamingo sounds bigger compared to its solid-state only competition. It's well spread and quite layered sounding as well
When the device is connected to PC, does it turn of /on external speakers when it's activated / deactivated?
Is there a big difference between OPA and Tube mode? Or is the Tube always on?
Thanks for the review, interesting unit for sure, here's a like and comment for the algorithm! :D
P.S. still enjoying the 109Pro's ^_^
Keep rocking, mate!

Can anyone explain the difference between the BD and basic version and when the basic version cost so much more?

Will you be reviewing the Fiio FT3 headphones?
