Senang mendengar david bercerita, sebenarnya banyak orang memasak sayur diindonesia, kami bahkan suka makan lalapan ( sayur mentah pelengkap makan sambal). Tapi wajar jika anda tidak mengetahui banyak. 1 tahun setengah tentu tidak cukup untuk tahu mendetail tentang budaya masyarakat indonesia.but it is nice to hear that you are happy live in indonesia

secara general porsi sayur dan protein+karbo orang indo jauh lbh sedikit sayur nya. lalapan di paket pecel lele/ ayam juga sedikit sekali. mayoritas org pun ga makan, di biarkan saja. makan nasi goreng, nasi padang, sop2/soto daging dominan minim sayur. di banding vietnam , thai, porsi sayur mereka jauh lbh banyak.

Ya itu kalo dijual, kalo masak dirumah kan seperti sayur asem, sayur sop, capcay, kangkung, bayam ,gado2, pecel, bandeng acar kuning dll. Si david kan hanya tahu menu2 yg dijual aja. Sedangkan menu sayur diindo kan banyak

@@Agustina-kb5rv ya. Yg d jualan umum kan menggambarkan selera mayoritas secara garis besar warga sekitar warung. Warung kan menjual apa yg laris. Bila memang kultur makan sayur nya tinggi, warung akan menyediakan banyak. Berhubung yg minat rendah, maka warung jg jarang menyediakan. Itu ya potret nyata di lapangan

This was great! My Taiwanese grandmother-in-law has an indonesian caretaker, and I really like her, but since we have to use an app to be able to talk, I haven't asked her extensively about indonesia. Things make so much more sense now that I've seen this, and I can see some big misunderstandings between the taiwanese employers and indonesian workers. A lot of taiwanese think that you need to be harsh to your indonesian employee as they tend to become spoiled easily and have a bad attitude if you're nice, which I guess in turn makes Indonesians who expect politeness and respect as workers actually have a negative attitude because they find the employer disrespectful. It's a bad cycle, in which the Indonesians are the ones who suffer most of course. They must find taiwanese culture quite barbaric, while taiwanese ironically pride themselves on being really polite. I've thought of taiwanese as polite, too, until I saw how they treated the indonesian caretaker. It's been very disappointing and upsetting to see. Anyway, this was all very useful information and David is very likable! Also, good for you Eileen that you get to travel like this for your job! I always remember your story about feeling stuck in your village, and you have done really well for yourself!

There a saying: " kamu sopan, kita segan. kamu kurang ajar kita hajar."
But Indonesian especially Javanesse is has really a slow pace culture, its not good for Taiwanesse which has fast pace culture.
Even Javanesse slogan is "alon-alon asal kelakon", and Javanesse tradisional dance 'tari gambyong" is in slow pace make me sleepy.
"A lot of taiwanese think that you need to be harsh to your indonesian employee as they tend to become spoiled easily and have a bad attitude if you're nice." Maybe many Taiwanesse already has a bad experience of being nice to wrong person, here also has saying : " Di weki ati ngerogoh rempelo", which mean we being nice but that people will always asking more and more.
A word "maid" also less used recently, change with "household assistant". They just want to be seen as a human being. Actually not just in Taiwan, Indonesian Imigran worker in Arab Saudi also got many slavery inhumane treatment (in news).
I work in Chinesse owner company in Jakarta for 7 years, many Indonesian think Chinesse is a stingy, but actually they are very very generous if we has a good result at our job, doesn't need to work harder just need to has good result at our job. After watch this video I just realised that my former boss actually already very localized with the culture.

David, what kind of Indonesian foods have you been eating? Indonesians love veggies especially if we're talking about home-cooked meals. We've got lodeh, stir fry kangkung (morning glory/water spinach), and well a lot of stir fried veggie menus, sayur asem, etc etc. Maybe you should try to go to local warung or specialized restaurant to experience the full Indonesian experience

David seems like an open-minded young man, which makes him the perfect type to experience life in a new country. 👍
However, I’d like to point out that, judging by his views on things like alcohol and food, he might be encountering only one type of environment. Indonesia is incredibly diverse, so I’d suggest he meet people from various backgrounds to see different sides of it.
Alcohol, for example, is naturally easier to find in non-Muslim-majority regions like Bali, but even in places like Java, it’s still accessible. There are standalone bars, bars in shopping malls where people drink openly, and even in rural areas, you’ll find traditional palm or rice wines and, occasionally, some questionable moonshine! 😁
As for food, it’s true that fried foods are widely available simply because they’re convenient. But getting to know people from different backgrounds can open the door to dishes like duck baked under rice husks, smoked pork, fish in tamarind soup, braised beef, and more. If we lived in the same city, I’d gladly take him to all these great places!
Overall, I’m glad to hear his perspective as a Chinese person working in Indonesia. There’s so much we can learn from each other if we keep an open mind. Cheers! 🍻

As an Indonesian, I am a bit ashamed to have heard David must deal with "orang santai" I know a little layback is good but too much laziness is not good either. I said this because my team often doesn't like my workflow, so focus on the task first. They don't like it when people become assertive. The strictness in this video however could be found in more luxurious or big BIG company

On the upper right of the options window that comes up, you will see the link "custom". *Smartphones:* open the video and go to the upper right of the video's screen. You will see 3 dots. Click on them and you will see the link to open the "playback speed" controls. Click on this link and you will be able to control the video's playback speed by speeding up or slowing down the video 25% at a time. I used to work in Chinese company in Indonesia as indonesian, i understand can vary significantly based on the specific company, its culture, and the industry. However, there are some common experiences
Cultural Differences: You may encounter distinct cultural norms and practices. Understanding and adapting to these can be both challenging and enriching. For instance, hierarchical structures are often more pronounced in Chinese companies, which might affect communication and decision-making processes.
Language Barrier: If you don’t speak Mandarin, communication can be a challenge. Many companies have English-speaking environments, especially in larger cities or multinational firms, but daily interactions might still involve Mandarin.
Work Ethic and Hours: The work culture in China can be intense, with long hours being common. The concept of "996" (working from 9 AM to 9 PM, six days a week) is prevalent in some sectors, which can be a significant adjustment for those used to different work-life balance norms.
Overall, working in a Chinese company can be a fulfilling experience that requires openness to learning and adaptation. Each individual's experience will depend on personal circumstances, the specific company culture, and the industry in which they work.

      📛 *Fun fact:*
*In 🇮🇩Indonesia, calling Indonesians of Chinese descent “Cina/China” is a grave insult, equivalent to the “N” word in the U.S.*
They are people who are proud to be called Indonesians & communicate in Indonesian language. Many of them used to 🪖fight with the Indonesian people to achieve independence against the colonialists. (🇳🇱🇯🇵)
The majority of them don’t use Chinese names & can’t speak Mandarin at all. They don't even wanna learn Mandarin since it’s not necessary in daily life. They will only take a Mandarin course if their job requires it.
If you find Chinese in Malaysia who don’t understand Mandarin, but understand a little Malay & are fluent in English, they’re tourists from Indonesia. You’ll see when they communicate with other Chinese Indonesians they use Indonesian (their first language). They use Indonesian at home, at work/school, and abroad when meeting other Chinese Indonesians.

Its always funny seeing their cultural shock. They gonna have a love/hate stuff in this lands. I mean, there is a cost in lowering pressures and performance. But, there is also a cost in throwing you life away dedicating everything behind a desk.

Ahh you seem didn't try much of Indonesian dishes from the way you talk about Indonesia is lacking in their diverse food. Have some more experience, buddy. Unlike the chinese cooking that is quite easy to prepare because mostly they just stir fried it, Indonesian cooking is a lot more about hard work. That's why to make it easy you see alot of fried food here. Your lack of experience here in Indonesia makes you unfit to make such a shallow comment. Cheers
