Rakim, MC Treach from Naughty by Nature, Big Pun, Nas, and Aesop Rock in my opinion are the greatest MC's of all time... Purely because their rap style was about showing off their lyrical skills
No and this is coming from rakim fan!!!! Ps, but everyone have their perspective on who is the goat in their own right!!! to me it’ll always be RAKIM!BUT then again every rapper is lacking something that another rapper has and vice versa. So in all truth there’s actually no one rapper that has everything that’s the beauty of this ever-growing evolution form of music’✊🏿
I don't really think that. Em being white is kind of special to him and is a main drawing point to him. Don't get me wrong, he's top 3 MC's either way, but if he was black, he would probably just blend in to the rest of the rap MC's.
Specifically, he incorporated the syncopations of jazz music into hip hop rhyming. He used to play the saxophone and he was a big fan of John Coltrane. And he realised that those rhythms could be said as well as played. I can never get enough of that fact. Nobody else (to my knowledge) had thought this way. And it took off like wildfire. So many of the next generation of rappers from the 90s owe Rakim a huge debt.

Em’s right. Rakim did a collab just last year with Irish singer Michael Patrick Kelly called “Wonders”, and his verse was just as powerful and meaningful as you would expect from him.
Much of the brilliance and flow of Rakims Rhyming style, comes from the fact that Rakim was actually a trained Musician!🎶🎼 Rakim came from a Musical family, could read Music🎵 and actually played the Saxophone! 🎷🎶 That contributed immensely to Rakim's versatility and innovative Rap Style, that was ahead of his time! So much so that to this day, Rakim is still considered by many to be the Goat🐐MC in Hip Hop history!
It's dope to hear him mention "the inside rhymes"... or as I call them, internal rhyme schemes. It's kind of like matching up A, B, A, B stanzas in poetry... except for it's inside out. Until you get to the point where you're just rhyming whole entire sentences. That's the difficult level of expert, intricate multisyllabics.
