- The BMW M235 coupe replaces the very successful BMW 135i. This small, sporty coupe might be a better BMW for the single person of professional couple. Small, powerful and more agile than other BMW's the M235 is a great overall package. This is a compact 2-door sporty luxury car German engineering and handling.

Canadian Car Review
Motormouth Canada
Well... I mean it is 0-60 in 4.3 seconds... That's why the M's on it. It's fast as fuck.
Totally agree. I could have done without the M rant at the beginning.
+reereelization Yeah, it has a special hotted up version of their N55 engine with things like a different crank. It's also got a lot of "M" pieces of kit on it - from the steering wheel to the suspension, and it's harder edged compared to the 435i. It's kind of halfway to an M car, or rather, lots of M type of delights without the full bore punishment of an Mx car.
well there is a new M2 a legit one now.
Hahah, "Use your brains!!" Amazing how many people do not do this. I owned an 2009 128 while in Germany. Put some Blizzak winter tires on for the winter and it was the best car I had ever driven in snow. Was even better than my all wheel drive Ford Escape!
I didn't know we have more than one...
You are one of the reasons I just bought this car used ... Thank you !!
Nice, that you tested it with manual transmission! Its sportier than the automatic.
I agree with all you said, but what's the big deal about BMW calling it an "M"235i? The M division did some work on it and previous BMWs in the past even before the true M cars were established had this nomenclature. It's a fantastic car and I drive one daily and never think twice about its name. Nothing to be confused about here. Thx for the nice review.
Exactly, Plus it's not an M2, it's a M235i
yeah most people confuse that M for a car series while its not M is bmw sport division and everything that has ben built by them is a M car. a m235i is prety mutch a detuned M2
Why is this guy so hung up on the M part of the name. Now a days every car manufacturer is doing it: Audi does it with there S line, Lexus does it with the Fs and so on. This is a sweet car stock and for the money it is kinda close to having a M3/4. Btw I'm an owner of a M235i rwd and I love it.plus for an additional $2500 the boys at Dinan could plug a chip and make it comparable to the M4 and not void any BMW warranty. Bumping this car up to 400+ horsepower &torque
what did you get for the 2500? did you do intake and downpipe or full exhaust with it too ?
yeah and the M235i is actualy built whit M parts and M suspensions M steering. its prety mutch a detuned M2
Drove one as a loaner, awesome pick up, fun to drive but you do feel every bump on the road.
That's the way they're meant to be. If you want a softer ride, go with the 230 or old 228 and drive in Comfort mode.
This car does have a xdrive option you know
RayzaBlayz Had me confused too as I've been looking at getting this with the xdrive option lol
where you getting your WRONG 0-60 times? Wrong info throughout vid
its called the BMW M235i not the BMW M235. but loved the review, like that you showed and talked about ergonomics about the car. Most reviews leave that out even though its something that could drastically change your opinion of the car ! :)
Motorweek produces real world performance numbers.
Excellent review ! The M235 is a great looking car, once in the drivers seat it fits like a glove. Great seats and interior. I can sit behind myself in this car, where as I could not squeeze into the tony back seat of the 1 series.
The 4wd is available in the US, My local BMW dealer said they hope to have the 4wd version of the 2 series before Xmas. I would easily buy this over the 4 series.
Do you think the 228 is worth the money?
revised note, Feb 2016:
The 235M rear wheel drive starts at $ 45,200. The Xdrive 235M starts at $ 48,950. Both prices are Canadian.
I think it depends on what you want in a car. If you want a car you can take to the track on the weekends then go for M235i if you just need commuter then take the 228. Many euro tuners have tuned the 228i and blew the engine so i wouldn't recommend it for anything other than just a daily driver, still great value and even better MPG.
Intelligent, concise review. Thanks
Nice dandruff bro middle console.
Only way to drove a BMW, a proper manual with rear wheel drive. When the time comes, I'll probably trade my E46 M3 for one of this M235i with a 6 speed manual. You can say its the most 'mechanical' bmw you can get on 2014 and it looks awesome. And Zack, than you for telling ppl to use their brains. My winter beater is an E46 328i, and with blizzaks, traction control, and common sense, I'm unstoppable in Toronto snow. Though I don't understand why someone would buy such a car and use it in winter
Have to disagree, I think M is still special and a strong statement on the road. Support what BMW is doing
great review, i did not know that about 1 series reliability
everyone mad about the badge "M235i".... its not an M2 , its a M235i.
They didn't name it M2. It has a reason they named it differently: The MXXX cars are the most powerful of their line, but not the "real" M cars. The MX cars are the real M cars.
this guy reminds me of the governor from the walking dead..
This is the car that I want, hard to find though.
M235 does have AWD option.
It does now - it didn't at the time this video was made. Sadly, the xdrive can't be paired with the manual...

You would honestly be fine with the RWD. It comes down to if you really want a 6 speed manual or not. I would test drive both transmissions, because the 8-speed is actually wonderful.
From what I've heard from other owners, if you buy winter/snow tires the RWD is fine. Otherwise I'd say go AWD. Also, the AWD accelerates faster if that matters to you.
The back is a little goofy if they stretched it out just a little bit I would say this is the perfect car
what about the fuel consu[tion?
dude you do know the M badge has ben put on non M cars for ages now right? the M badge stands for motorsport and they put it on all M performace parts. that bmw is built whit M performance parts the M badge does not mean its an M3 or M4 or M2 it means its motorsport spec
Maybe you should read up on some BMW M history.
....but it does come in awd
That rear headrest though...
Great review!
I hope the reliability of this car is good.
Why are all the videos shot in Vancouver, yet the plates are from Ontario? Something to do with Ontario being the Auto Hub?
Please do your homework: you don't get "much better power to weight" in 2-series because it weights almost as much as 3 and 4-series. Also you don't buy 4-series for "extra space in the back" because there is considerably more headroom in 2-series. On the upside I liked clear explanation why 8-speed automatic is superior.
The 2 series is 72kg or 159lb lighter and has 22 more horsepower, so yes it does have a better power to weight ratio....
Does the car come with any form of dipstick to check the engine oil or transmission fluid levels? (like normal cars do?)
my choice - 4 series
Please know your stuff. The 0-60 time on that car is rated at 4.5 for auto.
johnxaslan This is 0-100km/h, the rest of the world is metric... Time to know your stuff America and switch to the metric system.
0-100 km/h is 0-60 mph
johnxaslan
0-100 km/h is 0-62 mph
4.8 sec auto, 5.1 stick, in perfect cool weather, at sealevel.
There's far to many magazine racers out there, like you. 95% of people will not get within 1/4 sec (.4 tenths), of advertised times, that's reality.
Navigating/radio/.... Display doesn't look right for such an expensive car, it should look like is part of the dash board ( G37 infinity) it has come along way with electronics.... About time! Yet, am having issues with the heated seats coming on automatically when I don't want them, Radio should be default screen after using nav or ext devices when the car is turn off/on again, updates to the software should be automatic, why do I need a usb device to do it? This is an expensive vehicle while it rides nice still has a lot of catch up to the Japanese instrumentation.
I heard we will get a x-drive 235i soon here in Canada , is this true ? Also is dinan developing a stage 3 package for 2 series yet
ZACH 4:30 did you mean RWD? I just bought a 2011 genesis 3.8 sedan RWD i havent driven it in snow in ottawa but i have bought michelin xice 3's for winter. Im still worried though that its rwd
❤️
looks like the 2007 3 serie
this car has a M package. The new M2 has the M performance tho. different things.
This is an M235 review where you drive a 228?
Great review!! can you please review the mclaren 570s.. thanks
"very limited production". No, M cars are abundantly produced. What are you talking about?
It has M engine but it is not a full blown M car that's why there are 3 digits after M.
its a full built M car. it has M suspension M steering and well prety mutch everything M exept a lower hp engine then the M2
This car is a Perfect M car
That's why you should shout the fuck up
Is this car twin turbocharged or twin scroll turbocharged? Are they the same thing? I'm having a very hard time finding non conflicting answers.
BranPSU13 Twin scoll is a single turbo with variable turbine technology.
Simple answer. I'm surprised you don't just check BMW website. It's quite clear. Single turbo, twin scroll. More linear power, better power. Before 2011, they were all twin turbo.
You're right in comparing twin turbo with twin scroll. Twin scroll gives you some of the benefits of twin turbo (parallel, not sequential) in a single turbine. The purpose is to separate the exhaust gases from cylinders 1-3 from those of 4-6. When grouped this way, the exhaust pulses provides the best scavenging effect (exhaust pulse from one cylinder would help pull the exhaust from the next cylinder). When the exhaust from all 6 cylinders are grouped together, the pulses from the two "banks" interfere with each other and take away the scavenging effect. Twin scroll has two separate paths for the exhaust going through a single turbine. BTW the M235i does not utilize variable turbine geometry. www.superstreetonline.com/how-to/engine/modp-0906-twin-scroll-turbo-system-design/
Available in AWD now. Sold!
M235i*
go hate on the old m535i too then
Quick question M235 or S3???
*****
S3 is Quattro , = AWD
235i has xdrive
You don't need AWD in Canada if you have proper winter tires. Truth!
i agree, why the M?
no xdrive in the 2 series ?
There is on the 228i
They show M more.. cuz the Ms today are TOO expensive
"The steering wheel is large, it's in my hands..." as opposed to on your head? What an odd thing to say.
An amazing fast little car, but no match to the 4 series in terms of looks and that overall appeal. I'd rather spend that extra 10k and get xDrive.
Bmws may drive well but them and the other german cars still can't make reliable cars
I'll stick to my Audi AWD thank you.
Exactly.
horrible vid
3:41 the leather looks fake and cheap
"Soon-to-come 8"? Lolwut?
Please know your stuff. The 0-60 time on that car is rated at 4.5 for auto.
looks like the 2007 3 serie
