"...But seriously" is truly one of the best album ever recorded. I have been listening to it at various moods, places and stages in my life ever since i first bought it back when i was 14 years old. Now i am 42 i love it more than ever. I listen to it for relaxing, healing, chill out, for fun, pleasure and it means a lot to me personally. Phil and also All those great musicians played on that record really added something including Mr. Leland Sklar who played bass on most of the songs. That record is timeless.
The “phone ringing” , the “leaf blowers” and especially missing the first note of this tune, reflecting back on the lyric, is what makes me tune in every single day to the absolute humanity of what you show here, warts and all. As someone who holds session players like you in such high regard, I can’t thank you enough for the humbleness you present all these tunes with. Please keep it up!
Hey Leland, Thanks for sharing your stories of playing with Phil. I saw you down in Philadelphia in 1990. I recently saw Phil with Genesis in Philadelphia last Christmas. By the way, this song reminds me of “It Might Be You” by Stephen Bishop.
Hello my name is Howard and I have an Leland Sklar addiction! Im not kidding , before I go to work each day or venture out I must watch Lelend play his ass off or tell us an awesome musical magical story. I love this guy but I am truly addicted !!
Thanks for sharing some of these lesser known Phil tunes. I've gained a much broader appreciation of his work -- especially his drumming. Stay safe out there. "Were all in this together..." -- Archibald "Harry" Tuttle.
That was just Beautiful Lee, Im 70 now and I still play the sax, I played in a little band back in the late 60s. Thank you for your wonderful video. Doug from Albany Oregon 🥂🥂🖕🖕🖕😃
Someone here suggested to make a covid mask with a Lee beard ... so, am I crazy to like that idea very much ..?! A tribute to our hero, mister Leland Sklar!
Someone already commented that they've been listening to Lee "All of my Life" I realized me too. Since I stared getting interested in who was playing what on a project, Leland was on most of the stuff that I started my musical journey on.
I love this song...and the older I get, the more it resonates with me. Bless his heart...much love and respect for Mr. Collins. Ty for this one Mr. Sklar. What powerful memories we carry with us. Oh, and it was pretty hip learning about that hip tuner thing!
All of my life I’ve been looking But it’s hard to find the way Just reaching past the goal in front of me While what’s important just slips away And it doesn’t come back But I’ll be looking All of my life One of my favorite verses from Phil
Uma boa obra fica pra sempre gravado em nossos corações, a banda toda excelente com musicos de primeira, imagino os anos de estrada juntos, so nesse video ja demostra que a energia é contagiante, o senhor fez a história um musico magnífico. Um abraço.
But Seriously is such a great record and this is a great song. Might be my favorite of Phil’s solo work, with Both Sides following at #2. Sounds great, Lee!
Mister Sklar, I'm very grateful that you somehow let us get in your home with this kind of videos. I enjoy a lot your stories, especially the music and the small important details that make a lot of difference. For sure your messages of how taking care himself and the others, is saving many life's.
Absolutely beautiful. Wonderful whole notes with one lick perfectly positioned within the song. That's what makes 1 of the greatest session bassist of all time. Sometimes it's what you don't play that makes it beautiful
The sound is so good. Love listening to you playing. Treat each other with kindness, if you find someone special in your life, let them know you appreciate them. Time goes by so fast. Song brings back so many memories. Sure do miss my guy.
Lee, the finesse with which you hit the bass chords in this piece is so magical. A true master sharing his art with all of us. Thank you, again. More please?
One of the things I most admire of you is your generosity. Thank You Leland for taking the time to share with us your music and your passion for music. I really enjoy these videos.
Thank you for the brilliant second Clubhouse stream. And please apologize to your lovely wife on behalf of all of us for giving us so much of your time! (By the way, that was the funniest, most delightful thing I've seen in decades.) Love ya and God bless!
Who needs a five string?! Loved the Hip-Shot switch. That, kids, is using all the tools in your kit and why I keep coming back to watch this Monster Musician lay it down. Maybe a simple part but Lee found a way to make it special. I really enjoyed that one, Lee.
Thank you for helping make my recovery bearable!!! I've even broke out my acoustic guitar, and started grinding the rust off my chops!!! Keep then coming, please!!!
Mr. Sklar, these are such a pleasure! I looked at your discography, and admire SO much all that you've done. 2 songs I absolutely love, and would find the back stories interesting: Bill LaBounty "This Night Won't Last..." and Andrew Gold "Never Let Her Slip Away". Thank you for being here!
Dear Mr.Leland Sklar, i hope someday you will share the story of "Father to son". Will be cool to see you play along it. All the stuff you did with Phil Collins are amazing. All your other sessions with other artists too of course.
There is a beautiful acoustic version of this on the "Genesis: a History" documentary. There is a scene of what is a soundcheck from the "Serious Tour" where Phil Lee and Daryl are jamming on this song, but at a slower tempo without the drums. I was hoping Phil would've released this version on his Extras stuff. It was a loy like his slower version of "Doesn't Anybody stay together anymore/" Both have more of Lee's expressiveness. THANK YOU LEE for sharing this stuff.
Yes, it is this one. ruclips.net/video/nGhaYjD-XfM/видео.html Since Lee has started this series of music on this channel, I wanted to ask him whether to play that song in this version. He even can‘t remember, they did it live. The version on the Serious Tour was a little slower and the baseline is so great on that live version.
Leland I was watching you use that little hip shot and wondering what it was. Thanks for letting me know. I don’t enjoy playing 5 strings but I’m always wishing I could go down to D on a 4 string
The whole notes are not only NOT an issue, they're what makes it work. They accent what an electric base is best at -- providing a tonal foundation to a song!
Charles Barkley said that the game gets so much easier (and better) with better players. He was talking about basketball of course, but it’s a great metaphor across the board. You are so great! This bass line is like a good meditation. Cool drop tune mechanism. The first album I bought was Gratitude.. Mr John Myrick on the horn during Reasons is burned into my memory. How cool!
Before you explained the hipshot, I saw you toggling it and noticed the note changed. However I thought it might be another "producer switch" and I was simply listening with my "producer ears". 🤪 🤪 🤪
At first I thought Phil had done a cover of Stephen Bishop's song "It Might be You" from the Tootsie soundtrack. The line "all of my life" is sung so similarly in both of those songs that I actually had to go look it up and listen to it again.
I love Don Myrick! I love that song! In the live version Phil plays almost the same chord progression on "Groovy Kind of Love" but changing the bass. Steve Winwood plays the Hammond on this. Leland, could you please play The Roof is Leaking (version But Seriously Tour?). Thanks!
Such a good jam! And I can still hear the sustain on that bass hours later 👍🏼 btw too many people downtown and in Hollywood not talking covid seriously which is infuriating because there’s really no chance of people in the industry like us ever going back to work until the numbers go way way down 😷🤧😰
That sax intro and outro, just raises my goosebumps, everytime I hear it.
no need to be sorry dear Leland cause even when you miss the note you hit ours hearts with your carism and sympathy
I never knew Sklar could talk..! He looks like he holds the world in his palm. The monk...! No fair..
"...But seriously" is truly one of the best album ever recorded. I have been listening to it at various moods, places and stages in my life ever since i first bought it back when i was 14 years old. Thumbs up for showing us what a Hipshot Detuner is. Never knew such a thing existed.
Don Myrick amazing!!! Don Myrick Live!!! I love you Don!!! I love Phil Collins! I love you Leland!!! Thanks!
Love that Tall Lamp stand in the background....very Cool 🤩💡
The “phone ringing” , the “leaf blowers” and especially missing the first note of this tune, reflecting back on the lyric, is what makes me tune in every single day to the absolute humanity of what you show here, warts and all. Phil Collins THE BEST, he is my favorite.
The way you played it at the 1990 Nîmes sound check was lovely
You are a musical treasure and a really nice gentleman
Oooh, thank you sooo much Mr Sklar. It's good to see you so close and so live
I could listen to that song over and over.
In every song ... I hear you bass and personal touch Leland
I could sit and listen to your stories for ever :)
Hey Leland, Thanks for sharing your stories of playing with Phil. I saw you down in Philadelphia in 1990. I recently saw Phil with Genesis in Philadelphia last Christmas. By the way, this song reminds me of “It Might Be You” by Stephen Bishop.
I can't get enough of this tune. Thank you brother Leland
Sir. Leeland! You are a bass monster😮👏👏👏👏👏.
I think "But Seriously" is my favorite of Phil's albums.
Agreed
@@fabofishing same here
The bass with the piano 🤍
But Seriously is such a great album and memory because it reminds me of the times when I was about 14. So influential! 😍🥁
You guys played this live a few times on the Serious tour; there are a videos of it on youtube. It's beautiful.
Finally got to watch the long goodnight. What an incredible tour that must have been.
Thank you for Phil Collins segments memories that will last forever Leland sklar simply the best all the way

Hello my name is Howard and I have an Leland Sklar addiction! Im not kidding , before I go to work each day or venture out I must watch Lelend play his ass off or tell us an awesome musical magical story. I love this guy but I am truly addicted !!
hip shot master class. Love you Lee
You are the greatest Bass player that ever lived. I believe you can play with an orchestra. That loving feeling. It's in your soul.
Thanks for sharing some of these lesser known Phil tunes. I've gained a much broader appreciation of his work -- especially his drumming. Stay safe out there. "Were all in this together..." -- Archibald "Harry" Tuttle.
Leland, I've been a huge fan of yours for over 25 years. I absolutely love your playing and deeply admire you as a person and brother in music. A.H.
The thing I love about Leland is that he plays anything, never complains, any genre. That's a true musician.
Man..that guitar is beautiful. Love that one
Leland, I can see the joy and smile playing this song brings to you priceless. I love Genesis and Phil Collins and the music. Keep it coming....Art
Lee you are my favorite bass player
All of my life I’ve been listening to you Lee. Thank you
That was just Beautiful Lee, Im 70 now and I still play the sax, I played in a little band back in the late 60s. Thank you for your wonderful video. Doug from Albany Oregon 🥂🥂🖕🖕🖕😃

GREAT TO KNOW YOUR EXPERTISE IN LIVE ,GENESIS ! PHIL (NOT DEATH,,LIVE) CARE YOURS
Leland gets more airplay, then the album's he's played on, being played on radio. He's omnipotent.
I love this song...and the older I get, the more it resonates with me. Bless his heart...much love and respect for Mr. Collins. Ty for this one Mr. Sklar. What powerful memories we carry with us. Oh, and it was pretty hip learning about that hip tuner thing!
All of my life
I’ve been looking
But it’s hard to find the way
Just reaching past the goal in front of me
While what’s important just slips away
And it doesn’t come back
But I’ll be looking
All of my life
One of my favorite verses from Phil
Leland Sklar videos on a daily basis are truly the gift that keeps on giving!
Late wednesday evening here in Finlad while watching. With this i got peace in my mind and i know i can sleep well. Thank you Lee
Uma boa obra fica pra sempre gravado em nossos corações, a banda toda excelente com musicos de primeira, imagino os anos de estrada juntos, so nesse video ja demostra que a energia é contagiante, o senhor fez a história um musico magnífico. Um abraço.
My fav bass player sir..
Magnifique !

The line you played in the Nîmes sound-check was much nicer
Thank you Leland! I could listen to your stories for hours and your playing for days.
Just came back from a nice meal in our favorite restaurant. Had a brawl with our two German Shepherds and then this. Life is good. Thanks!
Thanks...as always, everyday. Enjoy everything about you doing these wonderful demonstrations...
Hi Lee. Thanks for the broadcast today. I watch this after watching This Week in Virology.
Sometimes is harder to play beautifuly on the simples tunes
One of the things I most admire of you is your generosity. Thank You Leland for taking the time to share with us your music and your passion for music. I really enjoy these videos.

Like butter. But better.
Who needs a five string?! Loved the Hip-Shot switch. That, kids, is using all the tools in your kit and why I keep coming back to watch this Monster Musician lay it down. Maybe a simple part but Lee found a way to make it special. I really enjoyed that one, Lee.
What a great time spent at the Clubhouse today.....almost a full three hours. Thank You !
Thank you for helping make my recovery bearable!!!
I've even broke out my acoustic guitar, and started grinding the rust off my chops!!!
Keep then coming, please!!!
You have an infectious spirit, sir! Thanks for making these!
That hipshot detuner is pretty awesome as well!

Le you totally crack me up! Thanks for doing what you do. I have enjoyed your music for many, many years.
First time I’ve ever heard anyone talk about the evolution of the Phoenix/Vine St horns.. thanks!
Dear Mr.Leland Sklar, i hope someday you will share the story of "Father to son". Will be cool to see you play along it. All the stuff you did with Phil Collins are amazing. All your other sessions with other artists too of course.

Happy Wednesday, Lee.
Thanks for more Phil. 🙂
As long as you're doing Phil Collins, you might do "For a Friend," his tribute to Don Myrick.
And “The West Side” - another one with a beautiful starring role for Don Myrick.
Leland I was watching you use that little hip shot and wondering what it was. Thanks for letting me know. I don’t enjoy playing 5 strings but I’m always wishing I could go down to D on a 4 string
Even my whole notes could never sound as good as yours! Beautiful song, thank you for sharing, Lee! See you later today on your Live Stream!
The whole notes are not only NOT an issue, they're what makes it work. They accent what an electric base is best at -- providing a tonal foundation to a song!
I always try to get here as soonly as i can. I don't wanna miss the first time . Thank you, Lee for these, again...
I think there ought to be one day a week when the neighborhood should have a moratorium on mowing and leaf blowers. It’s non stop this time if year
Phil Collins ! I justed watched the Big Interview with Dan Rather with Phil last night . Unreal what a musical Genius! From Alabama 🥵
I’ve always loved this song, enjoy your stories that you tell us with each song..
You're the best!!! god bless you!! Kind regards from Argentina! 🇦🇷
Charles Barkley said that the game gets so much easier (and better) with better players. He was talking about basketball of course, but it’s a great metaphor across the board.

Hip-Shot ala....Phil.....great with my dark brew Trader Joe's Coffee.....All of My Life...that sax and guitar!!
Before you explained the hipshot, I saw you toggling it and noticed the note changed. However I thought it might be another "producer switch" and I was simply listening with my "producer ears". 🤪 🤪 🤪
Congratulacion from CHILE gran maestro BASS cuidece del covid19 happy
Another good post Mr S. Chomping at the bit to get my LS t-shirt XXXL in black. Thank you once again.
Gracias Papá Leland! Te queremos!
At first I thought Phil had done a cover of Stephen Bishop's song "It Might be You" from the Tootsie soundtrack. The line "all of my life" is sung so similarly in both of those songs that I actually had to go look it up and listen to it again.
You done it in Perth Australia April 5th 1990 live as a matter of fact you done a lot of great live tunes with Phil in 1990
Nothing more than was needed. sublime! I was entertained
Dear Mr. Sklar, thank you for Your generous sharing these beautiful songs of Maestro.
Very nice. There’s a crazy spirituality in Phil’s tunes. Love it. Thank you.
The Hip shot.... I noticed it earlier., then you schooled us.... your approach to discussion is amazingly sweet and true.
You are the Hip Shot....
Thanks!
I'm not even a musician but I was enthralled listening to you explain the hip shot. thank you Lee.
Such a good jam! And I can still hear the sustain on that bass hours later 👍🏼 btw too many people downtown and in Hollywood not talking covid seriously which is infuriating because there’s really no chance of people in the industry like us ever going back to work until the numbers go way way down 😷🤧😰
We like to see you playing and talking Mr. Sklar, you Master of Music. :-) Many greetings from The Netherlands. :-)
