Lincoln Riley turned every quarterback he touched into a Heisman contender. That's why Caleb Williams came to Oklahoma. But OU never expected Riley, thought to be the Sooner savior for years to come, to decide Los Angeles was a sunnier spot to build an empire. In the new world of college football, one move by Southern Cal meant a first-of-its-kind beef over not just a coach rejecting a school, but a star player, too.

Coming from an OU fan ... I think Caleb cared about OU, hell he even cried after they lost to Oklahoma St. He even stayed to win us a bowl game before he left!! It just made 0 sense to stay there when they were bringing in a whole new regime. Why would he not go with the guy who recruited him?? Caleb even still claims OU just like he does USC. Can never hate him for winning us that bowl game.. I hate Lincoln tho!!!

As an OU fan the way Lincoln handled his departure was classless. He didn’t even tell the team he was leaving until news had already broke about it. Personally though I’m not too broken up about him leaving. Its only solidified my fears about him while he was here that he is not good at winning when it truly matters. He also has shitty defenses. Our defense is elite now and while our offense is struggling this year for sure, I still think the future looks bright for us in the SEC. We’re also unbelievably injured this year. Half the team is out right now.

Lincoln Riley didn't pick those quarterbacks. Baker was already there before Riley ever showed up. Kyler Murray was handpicked by Bob Stoops, And Jalen Hurts was a transfer from Alabama who went to Oklahoma simply because they badly needed a QB at the time And he wanted to start, not sit on the bench.

As an OU fan of 20 years; we don’t hate him because he left. We hate him because he snaked us the day after bedlam so he could start recruiting for USC. It’s not that he left it’s how he left. I still root for Caleb Williams because at least he had the decency to stay and play the bowl game. Riley leaving right before recruiting season was just foul imo.

Super bad take...there was no beef. But there was a lot of tampering and the truth is, USC offered Lincoln Riley generational money ($100+ million) BEFORE the season and Riley had to keep quiet about it and subsequently his play calling suffered(look up baylor amd ISU games)

Lincoln Riley was NOT going to CFP's with Trevor Knight. The real credit should be given to Baker Mayfield who lifted the Sooners by himself and got Riley the head coaching position.

I am in my 70's, I have seen a lot of head coaches leave. I have never harbored resentment for any of them until Lincoln Riley. It was the sneaky wormy lying way that he left. He was handed a golden egg on a silver platter. He never appreciated nor did he ever elevate what he was given. I wish no success for Lincoln Riley and I would like to give my condolences to USC. As an OU fan, I wasn't upset either. Since that hopeful, if not devastating end to the 2017 season, I thought we were finally going in the right direction to finally win another title but the defense kept getting worse, and so did the offense every year. I don't know if BR is the guy ( and at this point, I am not very optimistic), but I knew Lincoln wasn't.

Lincoln Riley had 4 NFL starting QBs in his time at OU and three of them were Heisman trophy winners yet he failed to win even one single playoff game. There has never been a coach in the history of college football that has ever had that kind of talent at QB in that short amount of time that did less with it. It's almost unbelievable.
I never held any ill will to Williams. Kids gotta go for his future and OU was going to have a rough year with the way Riley left and took everything that wasnt nailed down.

The last 10 years they consistently win 8-10 games a year. It's often been said that as Benedict Arnold was nearing death he called for his American uniform and said he wished he had never taken it off. Whether true or not does nothing to remove the fact that he was and will forever remain a traitor.
I feel the same way toward both Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams. I really don't care if he gave a "horns down" on draft night. He bolted OU after taking over the starting job from Spencer Ratler. There was no good reason to go other than his own personal glory. Let;s face it there have been big personalities at OU and those who became a brand unto themselves. Brian Bosworth immediately comes to mind. He didn't act smartly and he was selfish but he did not betray the Sooners.
