Honestly getting more and more scared driving nowadays. People are constantly on their phones, driving aggressively, not paying attention etc. The police need to start inforcing laws on the roads to prevent deaths
There is a definite increase in cretinism since the pandemic. I'm not sure why that is, but there are a lot of people who just don't seem to care. The only solution would be to stop treating driving as a right and ban dangerous and careless drivers from driving for significant periods of time.
I finally got on the road 12 months ago, it's fkn terrifying, I hate any long journey, honestly, my dad needs us to go down to Glasgow & he's been nudging me for months & I just Do Not Want To Do it.
If they're not paying propper attention for whatever reason they're attacking other drivers & intimidating them.
The amount of utter moronic tailgaters who get far too close & then assault you for growing the space in front because you have to deal with their lessened reaction time, it's just bonkers.
Oh god I really Really don't want to drive into Glasgow.
@@esraeloh8681I live in Glasgow Southside and I don't particularly like it either. Only been driving properly for about a year. What I would say is that the motorways around Glasgow are better than the smaller or more local inner city streets. You can probably get "in and out" without too much nonsense, don't be too worried.
With what cops? Here is DUMBerica we've defunded all our cops but we haven't refunded the taxpayers.
@@esraeloh8681 I second what @geoded said. It's difficult but being able to drive where you need to and keep yourself safe from dangerous drivers is a skill. Unfortunately, it's not an ideal world where there will never be a bad driver, and this also applies to outwith the cities. I would try to have confidence and take driving around cities like Glasgow as a learning experience. If you never push yourself out of your comfort zone then you'll never learn and get better.
I thought that the following white Audi driver was very patient. Normally they are blasting the horn, revving their engine, or inches from the back bumper!
I was expecting them to become an issue when the lights cycled back to green, so was also pleasantly surprised
Made a nice change.
Yes, I was going to say. Congrats to the Audi driver for not being a typical Audi driver.
The driver was probably borrowing the Audi while their real car was being serviced.
I drive an Audi TT, and try my utmost to be as considerate as possible towards other road users.
A big thanks to the Audi behind, not flashing, not hooting and not overtaking. If ever I'm in a similar situation I get the drivers behind doing their nut at me not moving on.
This is definitely something I've noticed happening more, in fact it happened to me the other day- queuing across a box junction, I waited at the lights because there wasn't enough space to clear the box and some absolute weapon in an Audi Q8 started shouting out of his window at me to move! He then drove round me... and stopped in the cycle box instead. People really are losing their minds when it comes to driving
Some people are. Many aren't - you and I, for example, and everyone who watches this channel and wants to learn. I'd have reported the Q8.
I live in a flat overlooking a traffic light junction. I'd say
70% of drivers stop in the bike box,
10% stop on the pedestrian crossing,
10% ignore the red light entirely,
10% use the junction correctly
@@Klaus_Nobb The drivers I mean are ones that stop in the bike box when approaching a red light. It's a side junction onto a main road so the light is red a lot of the time, but it's a cut-through so there are a lot of cars.
Maybe your perception has increased. I know the roads are busier but no worse over the years I've been on them.
Just let the idiots go past into the box junctions, councils are now able to set up cameras to fine people so they'll end up with lots of cameras everywhere to get even more cash from motorists
I had a situation with a tight turn with three way lights, where drivers from the other direction kept filling the box junction. I initially held back only for the light to fully cycle because there was no opportunity to get in. I ended up just forcing my way in after the light went green again as there was no sign that anyone was going to drive correctly to allow me to make progress
is there no camera at the junction that invoice anyone that stops in a yellow box?
literally have to do the same thing in pontypridd at rush hour.
There's a roundabout as you come off the A470 just past sainsburys that has a several keep clear boxes.
Unfortunately not every entrance is traffic lighted and the whole thing gets full of cars, so if you're coming out of a non traffic lighted entrance you have to go and sit in the keep clear box just to get out or else you will literally be sat there for hours, no joke.
I absolutely hate having to do it so I make every effort to not drive at rush hour.
Stopping in a hatched box is not prohibited if your exit is clear, so you're fine to wait in the box while those who should've waited will clear:
"You MUST NOT enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right"
@@mchi2hk2It's left in the UK.
@@Gerishnakov No it isn't, that's literally a quote from the (UK) Highway Code. The reason it's "when you want to turn right" is that you have to cross oncoming traffic when turning right. There is no exemption when turning left, because if your "exit road or lane is clear" you'd have no reason to stop in the box. When turning right, your exit road may be clear but you can't progress until oncoming traffic is also clear.
I'm guessing this queue was caused by roadworks traffic lights further up. If they could sync the roadwork lights with the junction lights before it then there would not be this problem of queues blocking junctions.
You got to be careful when you talk common sense lol
Some people are allergic to it lol
Joking aside, it is a great idea but difficult to get correct in the real world and most road work workers dont care.
Maybe they did time it with the lights but are a second or half a second out so over time, it goes out of sync.
We just need better people to get behind the wheel and drive. Too many drivers need to drive rather than want to drive.
Although that would also rely on drivers not jumping lights and not blocking junctions…
@@douglasreid699 Indeed, plus if the permanent lights are also controlled by sensors they'd rapidly lose sync with the temp ones anyway.
No to condone running of red lights but poorly timed traffic lights (especially temporary ones) encourage this sort of behaviour. It’s no different to a nice wide road with a 20 limit, people are going to be tempted to break the rules.
Which lights would you sync to, the straight on green, or the side road green?
1:17. ‘Never enter a junction unless your exit is clear’… sounds great until you get junctions like this where there is obviously something going wrong further up the road.
Just as you say sooner or later you need to move out otherwise you will never get anywhere.
COVID-brain on the roads is definitely a thing. I see it in school too; it's like those with already loose self-control have lost what little they had. There's got to be a post-grad study in there.
I'm glad you didn't blur the number plate (not that it imparted any useful information to me) - there should be no expectation of anonymity for blatantly bad driving.
I'm not sure it's actually a thing. I think people were driving like that before but we just notice it more now.
You actually have this UK biobank study that shows extensive involvement of the brain, at least during the first round of covid. There seems relatively little follow up, even though it's a high quality study. Btw this is not an exception, there are other coronaviruses endemic in humans that can cross the blood brain barrier. This would not be the case for say, the flu.
@@WoppettierWhile I don't doubt the virus' effect on the brain, I think that this phenomenon may not be on account of the virus itself but to the social disruption from lockdowns and other restrictions, combined with the flood of disruptive misinformation. I had to drive to work throughout the lockdowns and noticed a distinct change from the early stage - when few drivers were about - to some truly bizarre behaviour once some of the restrictions were lifted. I live not far from Lulworth and Durdle Door, so we got to see those remarkable, highly abnormal scenes played out on our doorstep, including the frequent defecation by adults in field entrances and passing places on our lane. This is not normal, and it very rarely happened prior to lockdown. People seemed to lose any sense of social responsibility they might once have had - or at least, found they could now act in accordance with their inclinations. It might be better to call it lockdown brain, since it was far too early for most of the offenders to have already had COVID. Obviously, this is anecdotal, but it seems many people can echo these experiences.
what I found was that my local police were ordered to avoid needing to contact other people, by which they meant that if bad driving was not an immediate hazard to others, to be more lenient. so we had the people who tend to drive aggressively were the same people who tended to ignore COVID, and they were getting jerked up short less frequently, which combined to embolden them to drive even more badly.
@@Woppettier I wrote a longish reply but it seems to have disappeared. So, TL;DR, I'm talking about lockdown-brain rather than COVID-brain, so not necessarily down to having contracted the virus. I don't doubt that the virus does affect people long-term though.
If I am going to impede someone emerging from the side road then I have misjudged my spot to wait beyond the lights.
With the Ford driver moving alongside the van, it was nice to see but I would’ve gone left more and tagged behind the last car in the queue. It is common practice on one junction near me for locals to do that due to traffic light timing and to avoid blocking progress of others
that whole situation is caused by the poor planning of the positioning of the temporary lights. The Main junction traffic lights should have been disabled and the temp lights repositioned to take their place and better control the flow and timings. Nothing worse than temporary lights out of phase with a main junction when they need to set a contra-flow beyond that junction.
The conditions on the roads now are so bad that I try not to drive anywhere if it's at all practical to get where I am going without using the car. Combination of too many people (the roads are what used to be Rush-Hour-Busy all the time) and too many folk who did not learn to drive here makes things too risky these days ... especially tied in with my getting-older-and-slower reflexes :O
I'd say in that situation if you can physically leave enough space for someone to drive into the junction behind you (even though you might still be inside the marked junction), you're good to go. About where the people carrier with the ladder on the roof was, as Ashley said.
The Fiesta was one too many and should have waited, but it was obvious they were never going to.
Same with the van and car entering from the side - ok if they can drive into the centre and leave enough space for traffic to pass behind them.
I think this is a perfect place for the yellow box junction.
Another example of Mystic Ash.
That Fiesta driver told us all what kind of person he is. People like that don't deserve a license. Lord knows how they got one in the first place. Nice coverage (watched the more recent video before this one inadvertently) Ash; it's definitely a tricky one.
He's special. More important than other people.
Every time I make it home unscathed I breathe a sigh of relief. Job well done getting my family home safe avoiding the zombies.
This is a very big problem driving in Jamaica. People will willfully block road ends that join major roads, but more annoyingly people will just enter junctions and stop in the middle of them as long as the light was green when they entered. It is one of the top 5 reasons for heavy traffic at peak times.
I was overtaken on the M25 by a crazy Audi doing near 100mph in the breakdown lane while traffic was moving at around 50 just before the M3. A huge cloud of dust was thrown up and caused traffic to stop. How there was no accident I do not know. Selfish at best, deadly at worst!
Grey Fiesta - I'd not have done the overtake and cut in thing. but I might have positioned myself wide (but still in "my lane") to get a view round the SUV, depending on where I'm going next.
There's another situation that can occur in North America where other drivers can end up preventing your progress without you blocking an intersection. It's drivers being able to take advantage of the legal "right turn on red" over there and hence a constant stream of such vehicles constantly turning right and joining the back of a queue on what for you is the far side of the intersection. This leaves you with a challenging time to traverse straight across the same intersection on your green light. At some point, you just have to make your move across the intersection during your green phase. Otherwise you will be there forever due to all those "right turners on red" as well as them making the same manouvre during their green phase. It's not as big a deal for those right turners to be "blocking" an intersection (equivalent of a left turn in the UK) as it would be for you when having to traverse all the way across it.
There's also the point of calming people behind you. For example, if you stayed at the lights for 2 cycles and haven't gone through 2 green lights, that's the point to do at least some movement (even a bit of a crawl) as otherwise people will either beep for no reason or start overtaking.
Can also alternatively go through the light but also leave a one car length space in front of you so that anyone coming from the side can easily get in i.e. you not blocking the junction.
Whilst I wouldn't cut up other drivers like the fiesta (it's pointless and rude), I probably would move forward past the light in order to retain my position in the queue and prevent others from jumping as they so often do if any space is left. Don't get me wrong, I've got no problem with giving way to drivers who need to change lane, merge, or turn from junctions. What I'm saying is there's far too many people like the fiesta driver, and if you don't hold your position in a queue it will be taken by agressive drivers.
Similarly, in traffic at yellow box junctions when so many people completely ignore them, or cut you up from the wrong lane to get into them, you can wait many light cycles to move forward because the junction is never clear due to those people sitting in the box. Sometimes you have to just go and position yourself to cause the least inconvenience to other drivers in order to make progress.
The standard of driving is not getting any better, but there are ways to adapt safely, although it can sometimes go against good driving standards in terms of courtesy, it sometimes feels necessary.
Deal with a similar Junction outside ASDA Great Yarmouth. Okay it’s a Box junction and I won’t enter or be pushed to Enter until I have a clear exit during a Green light. However there is a need here to make some kind of move at some point or every body just passes you and fills the gap.
The guy in front is just being pushy and aggressive. If it was him on the horn it’s an offence under the Road Traffic to sound the horn while stationary except in a real emergency or to prevent an accident.
People need to use some sort of assertion when driving but this should not become aggression.
Both as a Driver and a Cyclist being on the roads these days is pretty scary. I have to keep reminding myself you never know the mental state of another driver. I believe some would just loose it with you and start physically attacking you.
It’s always important to Deescalate situations that could turn violent and nasty.
Police and Government need to get their arses in gear! Time for tougher laws for idiots on the roads that put everyone at risk!
It's hard to do things without the correct and proper funding. The country's broken at the moment without the funds to fix it.
@@ashley_neal nailed it Ashley!
@@ashley_neal was gonna say that too! Haha
I agree, if parking enforcement firms can turn a profit, then there's surely money to be had out of dangerous drivers.
I would support the government privatising the prosecution of some motoring offences, just like parking fines. Fine the law breakers enough to cover the costs, plus a contribution towards funding improvements to cycling infrastructure. Seize their vehicle if they don't pay and notify their insurers so their premiums increase. This could all be done via online submission of dash/bike cam footage from the public, there are plenty of us out there more than happy to help make the roads a safer place for everyone.
@@shm5547 agreed 😀👍
Enjoyable educational conversation with you and your passenger Ashley.
Like others have mentioned nice to see an Audi Driver patiently wait behind you.
If only all drivers do likewise.
You mentioned covid. My theory is that functioning well in a regulated society is not an instinct but a skill, and skills need to be trained and maintained.
The 2 years with lockdowns and restrictions disturbed the balance, and when things opened up again people had forgotten a lot about how to behave in a society.
Since COVID... I find leaving my house is more dangerous :-/
Greetings from Galicia :-)
It was bloody good while everyone was too afraid to leave their house though. Hardly any traffic. You could go out walking in peace even in busy areas. At least some parts of it were nice.

As soon as the two cars came from the right I immediately saw the Fiesta drivers blood starting to boil. He seemed genuinely angry when they then had the temerity to join the line of traffic ahead of them.
At the beginning of the video , that is an entrance , not a junction . There is no requirement to leave it clear . Looks like an entrance to a cemetery : queue across it and just make a gap if anyone wishes to enter or leave .
Speaking of junctions:
Have you ever seen people queuing up in just one lane even if there are two and even if two only allow to go ahead?
Never seen this anywhere else in Europe… but it‘s great for oneself, straight ahead to the lights! 😁
Some junctions/lights are timed intentionally to clear the traffic that is waiting in the middle of the junction before the next direction of traffic is allowed to go. Some junctions are timed so badly that if you don't enter the yellow box you can't ever leave the traffic lights
See this all the time on the drive home from work, its a very busy road and people constantly block up the intersections making it difficult for traffic trying to get onto the road
That driver should get a bicycle if they want to make progress through traffic and red lights (by using the cycle track, obvs.!).
Interesting scenario developing in front of our eyes, made all the more interesting with your conversation, in real time, with your passenger, and he with you, what may or may not happen. so that we " learn to read these situations" if we encounter similar scenarios.🤔
I'm hopefully passing my test in April, in my little fiesta. I hope this isn't how fiesta drivers are expected to be, I already see the hate towards drivers of German cars, worries me. Wish people would just be chill and help each other out on the roads, we've all got places to be, lets all get there safe.
You'll be fine in a Fiesta. I'm in a boring Insignia, so am kind of like the gray man. I think even Audi drivers are treated okay if they drive okay. You can tell by the car's "body language". For example, if I see an Audi speed up to a give way line and not indicate, there is no way I'm going to slow down and let them out. But if it gets there slowly and indicates, I will if safe to do so.
Not all fiesta drivers though a lot of boy racers seem to have that type of car maybe because the insurance is cheaper
@@grahamtowler1761 Yeah maybe but I can't recall seeing many. When I was growing up most of the chav and wannabe boy racers were scrimping for old Saxos and Golfs. Or even Corsas.
The major surprise was the white Audi not doing anything stupid.
Probably saving-it-up for a hugely ludicrous maneuver later in the day.🙃
If the video played a bit more I'm sure it would show the Audi failing to indicate at the junction it turned off on.
0:19 wasn't sure you were starting to say the word 'classic' there! 😊
0:09 why are those drivers trying to filter like motorcyclists on hatched markings? thats illegal. He or she is gonna kill someone eventually and have to live with the consequences
Did you have your roof box on? If so did that trigger the Grey Fiesta to jump Infront?
I had someone honking behind me because I wouldn't block the yellow box
The hatched area is bounded by a solid line , or would be if correctly maintained , so each and every one of those overtakers could be charged with the offence of disobeying TSRM regulations .

Hello folks. I'm back in the UK now. Regarding both the van and the Ford that joined from the road on the right. Would it have been better for the Ford to have taken a wider turning arc so as to be able to "square up" & wait parallel to the traffic in Ashley's direction? Then signal left to reinforce the idea it was wanting to merge into the mainline queue. The white van might have also been able to play it's part in this by also taking a wider arc & squaring up parallel to the traffic in Ashley's direction, in addition to moving forward to create extra space for the following Ford to square up in the way I described. Granted this would mean the van would have had to rely on it's nearside mirror for a gap in the traffic but not an impossible task. I sense many drivers are reluctant to try this method for concern that they are seen to be trying to jump the queue, when all they would be doing is trying their best not to block oncoming lanes as well as assisting other drivers not blocking those lanes.
Evening Ibrahim! Hope you had a good trip. What you say about 'squaring up' is shown next Thursday. 👍

1. At Vancouver, I showed my Canadian passport but the check in desk system instructed the agent to ask me to also show my UK passport. Never had that before and I suspect it was because I didn't have a return ticket to Canada
2. The passport e-gates at Heathrow would not open for me, with either my UK or Canadian passport. Reason being, I have a similar name as someone else who is wanted! Had the same issue last year. So what was the 'correct' answer to when you should go if you're waiting at the green light? If the Ford wasn't there, you could replace their position?
The one in front of the Ford should have been the last car, with the ladders on top. The Ford was one too many as it physically blocked the car and van from the right from joining the back of the queue.
The white AUDI left the junction behind clear, even AUDI drivers can be considerate.

That’s the thing, isn’t it - this is most likely their regular driving ‘style’.
Hi I want to ask how to you deal with a situation where at a 4 exits mini round-about, all 4 four cars arrived at the same time ?
Ford driver clearly impatient but what was going on with the Audi behind? It was still sitting at the lights for several seconds after you had pulled away. Phone use?
Needed to do an emergency stop yesterday because someone decided to start to emerge from a dead stop out of a side road at the last second.
I do help people out of side roads when I can but this wasn’t one of those opportunities.
It looked like a car that wanted to turn in flashed them to go, they then didn’t bother doing their own observations.
At times you have to a bit cheeky and slightly force the space, but never aggressive like Mr Fiesta
Imagine if that was a yellow box junction with a camera ready to fine you!! No one would get anywhere!!!
Watching a comedian on stage the other night, they say this:
“My mother would always tut when cars overtook us and say “they won't get there any faster”. I would say to her “They are already there what are you talking about?”
I just wanted to scream that she was talking about how they would have to stop at the next set of lights. 🙄
I would have entered earlier but left a car’s length in front of me. If everyone else did that then there would be space for people coming from the right to “zip” in.
Classic act of an impatient and aggressive drive is to drive as close as possible and straddle the centre line
so was that just bad road design, or was there a problem further on that caused such a bad backup?
You can see the road works and the temporary traffic light in the video.
