DumDum got its name from the locals. It used to house the British barracks and locals got used to the sounds of Canons firing up which sounded Dom Dom and thats how the place got its name. It was later on settled by mostly refugee families from Bangladesh (Then East Bengal/East Pakistan). Thats how the place got very congested. It has improved somewhat in recent years, it was much worse when i grew up there.

I travelled to Delhi this February after having spent a beautiful month in China - Shanghai, Wuhan, Hangzhou, Jingdezhen. I cannot describe how shocking this was when I arrived late night in Delhi - the harassment, the incredible noise of traffic and honking, the dirt and garbage everywhere, the smells, the cheating - left after one week, much earlier than planned and guess will never want to go back. I was already there for 2 months in the Eighties with backpack, traveling around on my own, but maybe when younger curiosity and resilience was stronger then.
Your racist mindset is clear. Delhi is absolutely not the representation of India. Many western youtube travel vloggers have warned regarding this misconception. You will cherry pick the worst places in India whereas in China you will randomly visit the places. I mean India has so many beautiful, decent places. You ignored South Indian cities, cities in Northwestern India and entire Northeast India. You pinpointed Delhi and that also you visited Old Delhi because your racist mindset loves to see India as dirty and backward. Shame on you. The thing to keep in mind is how unique India is. My conclusion was the same - India is the biggest culture shock of any place I've been; the most stressful, but also the one most capable of producing surprises. Note that the people you met were kind and honest. I remember being utterly burned out by the time I left, but I have several memories that make me smile.

I travelled slum and non-slum both areas around those cities. Noise pollution feels like almost same to me as well. I just found some posh areas of those cities quite & calm. I suggest you to visit cities of China, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico. You will experience the difference about noise pollution among those and Indian ones as well. Man, I can assure you that the cities of those countries are more more & calm compared to the Indian cities. You can check by yourself, if you don't want to believe me.

Many people when traveling in India, prophylacticly take antibiotics to prevent getting sick from the street food. In Malaysia, my home for 17 years, the only time I was sick was from Indian food outside of KL.
@@atharvatar Have you ever traveled abroad or watched Anthony Bourdain? Street food is the best food and Indian food is fantastic. Everyone knows the secret is the filth. Not really but but dirt happens and it's part of the experience. In all the countries I've lived I've never missed the street food. It's always great. When I lived in Turkey I was sick almost every week but there was no way I was going to miss the food. Those "nice" places are generally for tourists and they never taste right.
I'm Indian but some of the cities in India are quite overwhelming due to the sheer noise, population, and speed at which the city works at. Some cities were a culture shock for me too despite living in India all my life. Hope you have a fun time here!

I went to India 8 years ago. I often think of the massive amounts of chaos happening there at all times. Absolute bananas place to go. But also incredibly awesome at the same time.

I order Ayurveda (various arishta fermented concoctions) from India and the price is adjusted to the North American market which means that they make so much profit that not only they offer free DHL delivery, but if the package gets intercepted by the (Canadian) customs and there are extra fees asked by DHL, they reimburse those fees. Usually the packages just go by without hassle. It certainly could be nice to pay in rupees and assume the DHL charges, but as soon as the address is entered the prices change in dollars.

This is what i love about you, you just randomly dive into a city with no idea of what to expect. If you wanted quiet, you should have explored salt lake and the newtown district. If you wanted hectic, you should have visited kalighat and other more centrally located areas like the south city mall. if you wanted a solid meal you should have gone oh calcutta or shiraz at the least - what really got to me however was that you didn't try the sweet shops, rasmalai and baked rasgulla are the best as long as you're not lactose intolerant :)

Of the bit I can relate to after my visits, Kolkata is one of the major cities in India which doesn’t seem to have developed much in infrastructure after the nineties. Classic in its own way! @@atharvatar Have you ever traveled abroad or watched Anthony Bourdain? Street food is the best food and Indian food is fantastic. Everyone knows the secret is the filth. Not really but but dirt happens and it's part of the experience. In all the countries I've lived I've never missed the street food. It's always great. When I lived in Turkey I was sick almost every week but there was no way I was going to miss the food. Those "nice" places are generally for tourists and they never taste right.

This is what i love about you, you just randomly dive into a city with no idea of what to expect.
If you wanted quiet, you should have explored salt lake and the newtown district. If you wanted hectic, you should have visited kalighat and other more centrally located areas like the south city mall. if you wanted a solid meal you should have gone oh calcutta or shiraz at the least - what really got to me however was that you didn't try the sweet shops, rasmalai and baked rasgulla are the best as long as you're not lactose intolerant :)

I often check your vlogs and whenever I go to India I land in Dum Dum airport and then catch the train from there to my city.
Of the bit I can relate to after my visits, Kolkata is one of the major cities in India which doesn’t seem to have developed much in infrastructure after the nineties. Classic in its own way! Looking forward to see more of your adventures in India. Great Vlog.
