    I just listened to this on my Genelec 1038A's and it literally sounds like this set is in the room with me. Probably the greatest drum recording I've ever heard played

      Phil Collins has been using them for a long time alot of other top players as well...... atleast in the studio as their sponsored company won't let them play other drums live and Noble & Cooley are just a small family company they don't pay artist to use their gear as they can't keep up with demand now and will not scale up production to lose quality.

    Is it just me or do these sound literally amazing??? Like, not, "these drums sound really good" but, "these drums sound amazing!!! Super clear, musical, and articulate, and the decay/sustain is soooo nice! They sound like they would be a killer recording set.

    I am a long time N&C Fan - loved them back in the mid 80's when they came out - saved my pennies and got a kit in 98 - have yet to play anything I like more 23 years later. Superior craftsmanship! Not to mention how GOOD They sound! THANKS to DCP for repreezentin' here. And for those of you in price tag shock: IT"S WORTH IT!! Any kit of this caliber is going to be in the $3.5k + range. TRUST ME, the "extra" $1 or $2k you spend will be worth it. N&C is TOP NOTCH. Think about all the 'other' things you spend $1k on in year - - pass on some buy out food/expensive coffee and genuinely LOVE sitting behind your kit and hearing these TONES! :)

    Noble and Cooley build drums like they are building a work of art It’s great how today they are so many fantastic drum manufacturers when back in the day there was a lot less quality and only a couple of brands

  • @DrummerGrrrl

    I could not believe the sounds of this kit! At any tuning all pieces sounded great. I prefer the low-pitched sound the best (and that's unusual for me) but this kit could handle any tuning. Wow! I am betting the price is probably waaaaay out of my price range, but it's fun to dream. As for the cymbals, I liked the hi-hats the best.

    I cannot remember Bob’s last name. However in 1996 at Guitar Center here in San Diego Ca, he did a clinic on N&C drums, technique and tuning. I was blown away by the sound and quality then and just as impressed still. The way they undersize the shell is why I purchased a Premier Signia Marquis kit. I don’t know how I missed this video. Well played, well tuned, just incredible guy’s 🥁

    Hands down one of the best sounding kits I've probably ever heard.!!! Just a side note,when noble & Cooley released the tulip snare drums,I asked noble & Cooley about doing a kit.Never got a reply and here they are in there beauty in a plyed version.They are stunning! They sound the way I envisioned. They are tunned perfect. Wow.! Do you think they will be doing a solid ply kit.?

  • @alansmith7857
    @alansmith7857 3 года назад +6

    I have a Premier kit from the mid-90's with tulipwood as a component of the shells.They sound eerily similar to these drums,especially at the lower tuning.The Premiers do sound great in the studio.Noble and Cooley always being innovative with quality.

    • @robroymacgregor7279
      @robroymacgregor7279 2 года назад

      I have also a set of Premiers from the 90s, that kinda also sound similar, but not with this range... Just amazing ...

    • @mbaroneva76
      @mbaroneva76 Год назад

      These sound a lot like Premier Signias. The first generation with the undersized shells. They are, in my opinion, some of the best drums ever made. There’s a lot of great drums today. You can go with any of the big names and get truly great sounding drums. But I love that N&C is a small builder making such a high quality product.

    Poplar!!!!! Frequently abused as a garbage wood in entry level kits but I have personally always known that poplar has an amazing potential. I made a snare drum out of an old pearl export poplar rack Tom. Took the rippling plastic wrap off to find some surprisingly nice wood grain, a solid dense shell with a clear fundamental note, even looking at the specs of the hardness/grain of poplar in comparison to more orthodox woods reveals that it’s not so different after all. A little sandpaper, bearing edge work, oil and new hardware and that old throwaway pearl Tom is now my favorite most unique snare in the collection.

    • @robertsala8031
      @robertsala8031 Год назад +1

      Yes, poplar now is often denigrated, but it has been used as a tonewood for a long time. Classic vintage kits with that warm deep tone are mostly poplar faced with other species (usually mahogany or maple). Too often fads and not our ears drive opinion on drum construction.

    They look and sound really cool. Only thing I don't like are the lug suspension mounts on rack toms. Granted, head changes are much easier vs RIMS, but I don't like how they look overall. Distracts from the finish. I think they would look better with an INDe-style mount, in black of course.

    Um, this is the first time I've ever heard a kit and IMMEDIATELY said "that is the best I've ever heard a drumset sound"🤯 I'm not hyperbolic about drum kits at all. I always think garbage sets can sound unique and interesting in the right hands, and I've heard super expensive sets sound like ass. This one actually really got me though.
    The sustain was perfect and musical without sounding ringing and making that simmons-like DOOOnk (idk how to describe it 🤣) but you still heard the attack. Every Tom fit perfectly together, loud and quiet parts even in the room mics.... IDK I'm smitten over here 😄
    $5k? 😭 I mean, it's not crazy for an amazing instrument... But it's unjustifiable to me specifically

    Shane is right about birch like sound but not as harsh...these drums have attack with just enough resonance to not be so harsh like birch. These actually sound a lot like my all Pearl Fiberglass shells with a tad itty bit more resonance. Surprised it has that amount of resonance coming from a poplar type of wood.... Goes to show you that if a drum is made with precision as I'm assuming an old time custom drum maker like Noble and Cooley is, that the shell will resonate even with a softer wood like tulip.

    Very nice looking drums. I have a cheaper set of drums made of poplar shells and with good drums heads they are the best sounding drums I've ever had, and that includes high end DW drums that I've had recently. Poplar was used as a main part of Ludwig drums back in the 1960's. They actually had 2 plys of mahogany and 1 thick ply of poplar, with a maple support ring. And, of course they sounded great. Light weight hardware helps a lot too. Just my opinion of course.
