I lost my friend in high school due to a drunk driver. It still stings around his anniversary. I feel no more hate towards the person that took his life (and 3 other kids).
Drinking and driving is never worth it. I’m so glad you’re alive Nelson and you’re here. I’m so glad no one else was hurt or killed. You’re here for a purpose and your story will continue the conversation and alcohol/driving safety. Sending you love.

What Nelly did was not a ‘mistake’ - he didn’t by mishap, accidentally insert his keys into that vehicles ignition and turn over the engine, all the while thinking he was calling an Uber, which would be a mistake. Each of the steps Nelly took were intentional. Nelly meant each one, there is no mistaking that. I do hope Nelly has learned, but please don’t be so pompous as to tell someone they can not tell the facts as they are because that is being too judgmental. The facts are, that Nelly freely and by his own want, drank above his limit. He then decided to drive, putting other innocents’ at risk, along side himself. He crashed and sustained injury. Some may believe that was punishment enough, while others may believe Nelly got off easy, but either way, a person’s actions don’t need to be deemed as being too judgey, when the legal system already deems what they have done as illegal - and what Nelly did, was illegal - he intentionally drove drunk, not by any ‘mistake’, point blank, period.

As someone who lost 2 dear friends many yrs ago, killed by a drunk driver, I first have to say that I am thankful that on that night God kept everyone else on the road safe from Nelson drinking/driving, AND I am also thankful that He had mercy on you Nelson sparing your life. I am a fan of The Challenge, and even though I was not one of your fans, I was a fan of the "bromance" between you and Cory which I miss seeing on the show. It was refreshing to see 2 friends actually having one another' backs on the series. Anyway, I want to believe you are on a road where God is able to use you as a witness to bring others to Christ, your testimony to save others from making the choice to drink & drive, and will use you as an amputee to inspire others, and show them, that you don't have to stop living and can still do things in life to help your family and community. I think by now we've seen just how amazingly athletic those w/ an amputated leg, or a foot, and even 2 legs amputated, can be in different competitive sports, and I'm sure if you continue to put God first in all things, that with therapy and training, you will do well too. May the Lord continue to strengthen you and your family on this journey as you all begin a new chapter in life. Just remember on the bad days "...this too shall pass."

How would you feel if this was someone in your family who made this type of mistake and people were saying negative stuff and judging them? Don't say it couldn't happen, because it could. That’s why you should always stay humble as you never know what’s in store as far a fate may have it and I think that’s the problem as Nelly hasn’t always been the most humble and it’s apparent quite often on the shows he has been silly, playful, funny(if you’re his friend)but his attitude has always been the opposite of a humble man and I think it’s just what comes with it. For me I dont think he a bad guy and he most definitely is having to face the consequences for his actions and fortunately for him it’s as easy as that but a lot of people have felt pain based on decisions similar to the ones he made that day and it triggers people but it’s ok as he has the opportunity to prove to the world he a better man for it but that is the story for him to provide and that will be based on his character over the coming years and I see plenty of people still rooting for him so what more could he ask for is what I would ask you??

Nelson. I have followed you from your reality show start and through your car accident. You have a heart of gold. Your were saved to share your story! My 19 yo daughter was returning from college last week and was involved in a collision that would have been head on, if the other driver didn't turn away. She hit the rear driver's side of his car. The other side of her car hit a 10 foot around tree. Both cars totaled. The last thing she remembers is feeling sleepy. Both drivers amazingly walked away with minor injuries. She was scared to share her story. If your tired, don't roll your windows down and crank up the radio. Pull over and get out of your car and walk around. Don't drive sleepy. Don't drive after drinking. May God guide you through your journey!💗

I relate to that feeling of hurting someone from a car accident..1997 was mine and a gf of mine .I almost lost her that day. I couldn't even take care of myself I was so worried about her, the docs and nurse put her bed beside mine and as long as I could look at her and her what was going on with her I was allowing myself to feel the pain I was in. When I saw them cover her face up I tried to get out of bed, they said no no she's ok she's just really cold ..omg please God take me not her...talk about PTSD, I still remember vividly of that day. She's alive and we live with horrific pain daily. So you can do this Hun, I promise, I had to learn to walk all over again etc..and make sure to talk about it with a therapist. God loves you and there's a reason your here, for me too, we have something to do in this life..a whole new and different life. Grief is real, allow it and take your time. Everyone's different. 💜 Love ya

First off I’d like to say I am very glad you walked away from your accident. And another thing I’d like to stay and hopefully this might help somebody. But I have told my friends my family anyone I can when you go out and you know you’re going to have any form of alcohol Make sure you have someone not drinking that will drive. The only reason drunk driving accidents happen is because when you drink you do not have the ability to determine if you should or should not drive your judgment cloudy so instead of being stupid and trusting what you think is right, don’t. Go into that knowing you have somebody or someway, no matter what that will get you home because you will not make the right decision once you consume alcohol you may think you will. You may think you’re OK that’s the alcohol talking that’s not right minded reaction.

I am absolutely a fan and loved Nelly - on the Challenge - and I will always be filled with admiration for a man who seemed to play with his heart. Nelly was a top notch, excellent competitor. This subject hits extremely close to home for me though. My life has certainly been affected by a person’s decision to be a drunkard on the roads we all share. Driving drunk is not a mistake - it’s a decision. I will lay hands down this was not the first time Nelson made the decision to drive drunk and thus showing what little regard he held for others he put at risk. I would lay hands down, that is more than likely the first time Nelson crashed drunk, rather than the first time he decided to drive drunk. Nelson wasn’t ‘blessed’ any time he made the free choice to be a drunk driver who made it to his destination safely, anymore than he was ‘blessed’ this time - he was bloody damn effin’ lucky, is all. His luck ran out and he paid the piper. The only ‘blessed’ people were all those sharing the road, while a drunkard shared it with them. Nelson was and is lucky that his crash involved himself only and he is not sitting behind bars convicted of vehicular manslaughter, because someone he crashed into wasn’t ‘blessed’ - as much too often is the result of deciding to drink and drive. I lost my 8 months pregnant sister-in-law, my 3 nieces, aged 8, 5 and 2 and what would have been my brothers first son by a drunk diver, who crossed into oncoming traffic and hit my sister-in-law head on. His first ‘documented’, drunk driving infraction also, btw. Please don’t chastise, for allowing me to judge someone who makes the decision to drive drunk and puts everyone sharing the roads with him in danger - people completely unaware of being in danger because Nelly and those just like him, have no way to forewarn anyone of their reckless and selfish decision to drive drunk. There is no justifying Nelly’s decision to put his keys in the ignition and drive drunk and anyone labeling it a ‘mistake’ is hurtful to those effected by drunk drivers and seems totally preposterous. There simply is never an excuse for what Nelly chose to do, I suspect on numerous occasions, before this crash. There are too many easy accessible solutions to ‘choose’ that are at everyone’s fingertips which enable us to never drink & drive. Does Nelly need forgiveness? Perhaps - time will be the teller of that answer. People do change, statistically and even more-so sadly, many more people don’t. I do sincerely hope Nelson will be one of those that does change, but it is much too soon for the public to assume Nelly is a changed man or fits into that ‘changed’ category, as yet. For me the jury is still out on that.....

My exact thought! Everything down to being a motivational speaker. It doesn’t sound like he’s having a conversation or answering questions from an interview at all. It’s more like he is enlightened and want to be inspirational through dealing with her current struggles. It’s really hard to have empathy for someone who chose to get in the car intoxicated.

I’m so glad that Nelson is doing well. I’ve watched him on the Challenge for years and truly enjoyed seeing him on my tv screen. I can see that he has grown from his situation and challenging himself. We all make mistakes and how we take accountability for them is what matters. Hopefully, one day we can see him back on the challenge showing the world that anybody can compete in the challenge even if they are an amputee. Also, if you watch the Challenge, than you know this is actually how Nelson is.

Im a Challenge follower ❤🎉❤🎉❤ I been out the loop Mr. Nelson 😊 What a testimony of overcoming from 9 seasons to this accident that has amputation. Only God, but God. Mental health is everything plus the word of God. Grief comes in so many ways. Take it easy on yourself while you navigate through this new disability. I lost some of my life getting hit with a stroke and several evil autoimmune disorders. I fought back and forth with social security. It took 7.5 years to finally get a favorable decision of 100% just a month ago. My faith is the only thing that has kept me. I want you to be encouraged. And know your testimony is a blessing. If God can bring us to it. He can bring us through it 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤ You are a blessing 🙏 Mental Health therapy and the Word of God plus Mom lol will carry you. p.s. why you lightweight lookin like OBJ 😅
