- It's 10 years since Guy Goma became a celebrity after he was mistaken for an internet expert and interviewed on BBC News TV.
The unemployed computer technician had been at the BBC for a job interview. But the graduate from the Congo gained worldwide attention after a mix-up saw him interviewed on air instead of Guy Kewney

The man was able to compose himself in literally 3 seconds after being unexpectedly shoved into a position many people would consider a nightmare (live TV in front of millions), and was able to answer in a way that sounds like he’s done it a thousand times. The ways he said “actually…” and “exactly…” are hilariously chill. All that in what I assume is a second language. If he didn’t get the IT job I can’t believe they didn’t at least find some other position for him.

Pay him what? What money is he due? What money was made off of this at the time? The BBC doesn’t run advertisements - it’s state funded. Internet videos were barely a thing at the time, nevermind video monetisation.
what money? the bbc is not a for profit, publicly or privately traded company. it doesn’t really make any profits - at-least, that’s not what it’s there for. Any money generated will go back into budgets. It’s a state owned institution, funded by the tax payers (license fee payers) in the uk. There’s no adverts on the bbc lol. there’s no royalties for him except for maybe a couple hundred pounds of online ad revenue (if they monetised it), which would not be worth suing over - because even if he was awarded some or even all of that money (unlikely) - the costs to get to that point will almost certainly be greater then any ‘royalties’ he’d get (which is contingent on the basis’ of if there are any royalties, if he’s owed any, and how much if so).

Any money that would be paid to him wouldn’t be his money anyway, it would be OUR and MY money. The BBC is funded through households that pay the license fee, which is almost obligatory and universally paid, such as mine for example. What did he do to earn or deserve any money?

He was probably thinking "this is one of the most challenging job interviews I've experienced." The fact the BBC didn't give him a job speaks to their lack of flexibility. Guy showed immense composure under pressure, which is a great trait.

What is happening??? Why are people universally praising this guy? All he had to do was tell the truth and clear up the situation. Instead he literally pretended to be someone else and started spouting his own opinions on national TV, as if he was actually the expert. I mean its pretty funny and he did do a good job. But he's legitimately a con man. This isn't "courage under fire"... Its a _massive_ error in judgment. You don't hire someone because they're a good BS artist. You want them to have integrity. Imagine you have shown up for an interview at a prestigious organisation - one you don't expect to make mistakes like this. We would be nervous even for a normal interview. He sits there assuming that this is how interviews may be done here - with cameras and lights. Is it an absurd assumption? Probably but in that moment it would be difficult to know what to do. So calling him a conman is a bit of a stretch. He came for an interview and answered the question since it was relatively generic. He did mention he didn't realise that the interview would be in such a fashion but the interviewer glossed over it.
He is absolutely adorable. I love how he did not back away and kept cool.

Goma was waiting in main reception and that's where the producer sent to get him was told Kewney would be. Kewney was actually in another reception area. The producer asked Goma if he was 'Guy' and he replied yes. He was swept off to makeup and put on camera.
The best part is the producer was shown a photo of Kewney and its safe to say they look nothing alike.

The bbc didnt give him the job and have been making money off this clip for years and havent even given him any money for revenue they have made. Pay him for the interview he gave and share the youtube revenue. Shame
