They have tried to emulate aspects of the old arched bridges on some of the new bridges on the 400 as they’ve replaced them, but they just aren’t the same to be honest.
It’s understandable that the 401 from Kingston to the QC border is bilingual, but I’ve always wondered why it was also completely bilingual from London to Windsor, and not from London to Kingston. Why just have mainly English in Golden Horseshoe which is Canada’s populous region, but a complete mixture of English and French in SW Ontario when it’s not even close to Quebec? Anyways good video!
billingualism in Ontario is set up by the 'French Language Services Act' which sets out that a municipality is deemed bilingual if either 10% or 5,000 residents are francophone. Essex County and the City of London meet this threshold, so they get french highway signs, though I agree, the french signs appear to be somewhat haphazard on Ontario's roads.
Andrew Luimes thats a fair opinion. I just kind of accept the signs for what they are. It seems to me there isn’t a perfect way to deliver french language services across the province.
I think the speed limits could be a bit higher for this stretch. Maybe 110kph? Speed limits are dropping like flys in Europe due to the EU going ham on emissions but I hope it doesn't happen in North America any time soon.
LowerYharnam it wouldn’t shock me to see a speed limit of 110 km/h on this section of the 401 in the future. The 402 was recently upped from 100 to 110 since this video was filmed.
Nice video, so are you going to plan to drive on the 403 east from Brantford to the 401/403/410 junction later? It would be appreciated because I try to find all of the newer signs near the 403 eastbound from the 401/403/410 junction but I got the older versions of the sign instead, even though I use google maps but you can only view the streets up to October 2018, and the new signs are added in Dec 2018 - Feb 2019.
MTO made a big mistake by not constructing the 401 through London instead at the edge of the city where it’s could have been a useful highway for the people of London Ontario
Dang there a lot of big rigs
factory on wheels.
yeah that curved design on those old bridges is classic!

I like those old overpasses
me too.
This section of the 401 is similar to I75 in rural Georgia.
It's similar to a number of rural six lane highways in the US.

The 401 between London and Kitchener is beautiful!
lol, i don't know if I'd go that far

I might film that sometime in the future.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 Okay
Does anyone actually drive 100km/h on this road?
I don’t think so
They should apply the 85th percentile rule when setting Ontario's freeway speed limits
i could see this section of the 401 getting a higher speed limit in the years to come.
@@haljackey maybe. but 120 might just be a fantasy at this point too.
We have the same problem over in Australia. Long distances, smooth roads and the highest freeway limit is 110km/h with strict enforcement...
Always love a drive in Southern Ontario. Looking forward to going back in August! When are the increased speed limits happening? It’s long overdue!
Apparently the increased speed limits are going into effect in September. They are long overdue
@@AsphaltPlanet1 Just after I leave. Oh well

I wouldn't have minded if London had a cross-town expressway, but I have to say, I'm not unhappy that such a cross-town expressway isn't the 401.
