I can still remember I drove on the 416 to Ottawa for the first time on the Chrismas Eve of 2017. The highway was so empty and the surroundings were so dark. When I looked down at the dashboard, I suddenly realized that I went over 160 km/h lol.
I've missed a lot of these over the last few months. I subscribe and like but they never seem to show up on my recommended. Will have to check the subscribed tab more often. Thanks again for doing this AP.
I'm from hamilton, and have done the drive to Ottawa from the GTHA many many times and used to always do 401 and 416. Last time i went i did highway 7 and its the same amount of time once past toronto and its much more direct 50-60 km less and much more fuel efficient. Only time i now take the 401 is if im going to Montréal or the laurentians in quebec or points further east.
416 is a connector route of 401 closer to St. Lawrence River and 417 in Ottawa. Or should I say a connector between two main routes of the 400-series highways of Ontario?
You know what? I consider 416 as well as one of the 5 main routes of the 400-series highways of Ontario like 400, 401, 417, and QEW. I mean, it also provides a quicker route to Washington DC, I mean I-66, I-81 all the way to the Canadian border entering Highway 137 over St. Lawrence River, then east of 401 and then north of 416 towards Ottawa. It's like a whole route between national capitals.
This is a great highway if you ever drove the old 16.. this speeds things way up and for someone that drove this route many times 416 is boring but a fantastic addition to the system
I remember taking the 401 freeway, from Fort Drum to Kingston, all those years ago, when I was in the US Army there.

There isn't much to look at on the 416 in my opinion to be honest.

The subscribe feature of youtube is it's own mystery. Thanks for the comment.

I remember visiting Gananoque from the 1000 islands for my first time outside the US in 1967.
I hate the left hand exit off the 417. This road was built during the 90's austerity with cost control in mind and the MTO cheaped out here.

The 416 definitely links the two most important east-west roads in eastern Ontario.
It is also an upgrade of Highway 16 as Highway 16 is a short connector of 416. This is where Highway 16 used to be before 416 replaces that part.

@@burnuts007, it may replace Ontario Highway 16, but there's a small portion left near the St. Lawrence as a spur, but it's arterial.
416 is one of my favorite highways alongside the 115 because of the light traffic.
13:41 THE NUMBER ONE
exit
why is there only 2 highways in 0ttawa?
That's the way it is. No one can explain.
How many more do you need? It’s connected as needed for the most part.
Enough
I like the orange leaves in Dollarama on October😊
I know the 416 cross border US side city name, Ogdensburg
Mississauga Canada here
401 being only 2 lanes between Toronto and Montreal is so disappointing and makes it a very average highway.
I don't know why, but I find the 416 the most boring road to drive
I think it's because the 416 is the most boring road to drive.
Clearly you’re both forgetting about the drive between London and Sarnia... :)
It wasn't boring when it was just one lane each direction until the mid nineties lol
One of the most boring stretches of highway in Eastern Canada.
True but the traffic on the 416 is always moving perfectly.
I’m from Ottawa and I agree. It’s not like the anxiety you get on the 401 or the scenic views on QEW
