- Amazing tech, great interior and a driving feel that puts a smile on your face. Could the new 5 Series be the best executive saloon on the market. I put the new 520d through it's paces and to be honest struggle to find fault !
A huge thanks to BMW UK for giving me access to this car. I've wanted to experience the new 5 Series since it came out...it certainly didn't disappoint !

Well. I have purchased a 2015 530D M Sport 50k miles full dealer history in beautiful dark metallic blue with chocolate brown leather interior.
I stepped out of an Alpina 3.0 D3 touring and the five is a massive step up. People I give lifts too do not normally comment on my car but universally they are mightily impressed. My god it has 650 miles in the tank the ride is extraordinary. Best car I have ever owned by some considerable margin. I am also lucky enough to have a 130 for B road fun, another classic car from BMW. They are boss!
This is the car I have. Amazingly smooth the drive. like silk. I've had mine 2 years now. still love it

I get 52mpg+ on a run in my '18 530d mSport xDrive, total all rounder and REALLY goes if you need it :) The interior is also the perfect combi of tech and traditional ergonomics ( had a 70Reg golf GTD for a bit and had to swap it)

Looks great. The 8 speed ZF box is awesome as it's so versatile. Agree about keeping the Oyster leather clean though 🙈
My 530d G31 is a different beast than the F10. It will allow you to drift slightly in a bend which is nice, even over 100mph it allows a small slide and you can feel its uncrashable. What a machine. An estate that drives like a hot hatch but quicker. Oh I want to have its babys.
Got the same one, with Xdrive. Brilliant machine!
I had a 2016 BMW 520 msport. If the new one is better then it must be amazing. I would get 55-60mpg on a long run in mine. Thanks for the great review.

The 525m sport is defo a wolf in sheeps. Twin blown, we had that and an M4 on demo last year. Lovely, preferred the 525 waaaaay more than the 4. Much more manageable.

Hi Peter, I can see you like this Car but you made a comment very early on in the video. You said your not sure of you could daily this Car is this because it’s missing the xdrive like Audi have Quattro I think it’s fair to say BMW over the years have got better and can be driven in all weathers but to do so I would have the xdrive 4 wheel drive system I think I have told you prior I’m becoming a BMW fanboy and I think you can now see why but as ever great video very informative and as ever best wishes Alan B

I test drove one of these back in April. I was well impressed and the interior is top notch. It made getting back into my E91 320D very disappointing. It felt about as quick as my car and the only slight disappointment was the tyre roar from the run flat tyres. It sounded the same as my car. I thought it would be better insulated against road/tyre noise. Other than that I could have driven it all day but the very pretty lady from BMW would probably have thought she was being kidnapped ;)
LOL...just ignore her when she starts to direct you back to the dealership !

Such an improvement over the previous 5 series. Fingers crossed they lend you some M cars for the channel. MORE DRONE PLEASE!!!!

ive just got 530d 2019 still getting to grips with all the toys but driving it is exellent cant fault it

good point about the integrated screen!! Its why I prefer the 6 series gran coupe, oh and also the 5 series to me is just too common place...maybe I am being a bit too snooty!!!
The last gen 5 series had an integrated screen and the replacement for the 6 series (8 series) will have the same screen as this 5er.. You be snooty though, the 6 is awesome :)

How is the comfort of this vehicle when it just has the M Sport Suspension? Considering one of these vs a G20 320D with Adaptive. Looking for one that’s most comfortable!

I'd be interested to hear your views if you now tested a Jaguar XE 24d Portfolio. I've driven around 10k overall in both cars and know which I prefer from a driver's prospective.

I've only driven the V6 XE S and that was VERY good !
You don't mention the ride. Was it on Sports suspension, or standard, or variable damper. BMW on Sport tend to be awful, but very good on variable.
The ride was firm but compliant :-)
Looking to buy one but not sure wish is better between 530d or cls 350d ?
530d all day the BMW is just sportier more exciting to drive in my opinion, Mercedes are great but after owning a few they seem boring in my opinion unless it’s an AMG but even then I’d prefer an M Car…The 530d is a great mix between MPG, Power & Style! Go 530d!!
5 series a big step up in class.

After driving a bmw for a few years "f10" I can't drive anything else, tried mercs, audis and nothing compares to BMW. G30 msport my next car for sure
I’m going to be controversial here and say I don’t see the point of the M5 550 M Sport is all the car anyone will need. And the 530D is even better as you get the economy to boot.
Hmm... I'm not convinced sadly. £50k for a four cylinder diesel. And I'd have liked to have seen a 0-60 too. I'm sure it is a nice car (apart from the leather) but it's not for me.

Hard to fault - but hard to love?? I’m in the process of selling my 2013 BMW 1 series M Sport because it’s nice - and I don’t want ‘nice’ 😂 .... £48k for 4 pot diesel is just madness.

Mmmmm, I just can't get excited about a car like this and it can hardly be called sporting. I'm finding modern beemers to be generally quite unexciting.

FIlled with useless crap exception is the breaking assistant if you are not careful... the rest is just hipster gimmiky stuff. they should work on reliability.

I know you feel thankful to the dealerships for lending you cars to review but you are allowed to give negative points and be honest about what you DON'T like. These are just small episodes with massive brown nosing to each marque for lending you a shiny car to drive
The perfect "reviewer" for the car makers, I guess..and how you can call a 2.0 Diesel 5 series with it's barmy 188bhp sporty is beyond me.
Gee G To be fair I have a daily Golf GTD with a mere 184bhp but I can feel really sporty when it wants to. It's a combination of acoustic fake noise, decent suspension and good steering feel.
Of course, it's never going to match a GTi or R for sports pedigree and performance just like the 520d won't match the 540i or M5, but there can be some sporty feel about some of these cars.
Firstly I don't shy from talking about things I think could be better. Of course it is a difficult balance for a channel my size that is just getting big enough to deal with brands directly. However honesty is important. I didn't criticise this car too much because it is very good and although it might not have the power of an M5 is has a nice sporty feel. You don't need to be going fast for something to feel sporty !

I have a 530d RWD 2017 17.000 MILES drives like new only £22k. £ 50 k new
Same mate mine is slightly older than yours. It cost 15 grand!!!!!! I still can’t believe the quality for that type of money. It still looks amazing!

yes it does, but the C class is compared to the 3 series and this video is about the 5 series which is compared with the E class.
I find the M Sport package to be really unnecessary...

Nice car, but quite a price !. I do wish BMW would stop sticking M badges on everything and just keep it to the real M cars.
You are right. M badge should be kept for real M cars. I had a msport 520 and the body kit, spoiler and badges did not make the car any quicker! 5 series is a great car.
They all do it now. I think Audi were one of the first with the S-Line, but BMW and Merc do it too.
