The wife and I enjoy watching your videos here in Houston, Texas. I have a somewhat tenuous connection with Widnes, as my sister's late husband Colin Mottershead's grandfather Joseph Mottershead, who was awarded the Victoria Cross in the first world war and has recently had a statue unveiled in the park near the war memorial i believe.
My cousin used to live in Warrington and his widow i believe still does. My father used to work for Crossville Bus service so we would take a bus and go for a picnic some. where along the Bridgewater canal I used to ride my bike from Old Swan in Liverpool over the Transporter and on to the canal to go fishing, probably in the late 50's well before you where born I guess.
Keep up the good work and give Molly a hug for us.
    Cheers,
    Nick Jones

Whereabouts in The Swan did you live? I grew up in Gidlow Road, Herrick St and then got a bit posher and moved up Broadgreen Rd. I was born in 1980 but my mum and her mum grew up there. Owens and Hawkins were the family names

@@KevWall-zt3pn I lived in Whitehouse road, from 1947 to 1967, when my folks bought a shop, so I was well gone before you were even born. In fact I was married and emigrated to Canada in1978.
There are still some people I knew living around there, a girl Pam who married on of my schoolmates who I think still live actually on Broadgreen Road.
I was back in the UK in 2004 and actually drove into Whitehouse road and saw a woman I knew as a girl Sandra and spoke to her and reminded her we lived in #29 while she lived 2 doors down. It looked pretty much the same as when we left. Other names I remember, where the Woodwards who live next door, the Murphy family, the Whisker family and of course the infamous Rory Storm aka Allen Caldwell and his sister who I went to school with.
Schools I went to where Cunningham road primary, the Old Swan Tech, West Derby Tech.
Some good memories, but a bit cloudy now I' getting older, just had my 81st birthday.
      Have a good New Year,
      Cheers,
      Nick Jones.

@@alunjones8407 when we moved to Broadgreen Rd we first moved to Withnell, the next road to Whitehouse I think you will recall, then moved to Heliers Rd, the next street up from Withnell. Didn't Rory Storm live in the house opposite the newsagents on Broadgreen Rd? You had the newsagents one end of the block, it was called Vito's when i was a kid, and the other end of the block was The Hilltop shop(or Butchers as it was locally known because that was the family who owned it) where you could get cold meats and other groceries.
I went to the same primary but it was Broadgreen infants by that time. Its now the Joseph Lappin community centre. A lots changed now, most of the pubs have gone - The Glasshouse, The Gardeners Arms, The Paraffin Oil Shop, Both Stanley's, Both Cattle Markets, The Cygnet, The Redhouse, The Travellers Rest on Edge lane along with The Dryden and The Welly by the fruit market, The Rose on Binns Rd. Most of the shops in the Swan now are charity shops, most of the family run shops were forced to close when the Tesco was built where St. Oswald Gardens used to be. Having said that Tesco does employ a lot of local people and is convenient. I think it's called progress! If you are on Facebook there is a group called Old Swan past and present with some great photos on there..
All the very best for 2025 and beyond.

@@KevWall-zt3pn Good to hear from you again, I know Withnell Close well our house in Whitehouse road baked on to there. Heliers Rd was on my way to school and the pictures, the Curzon and Regent also the Library. Unfortunately I imagine they have all gone years ago. I attended Old Swan Tech before we were all moved the West Derby Technical High School on Moscow Drive and Queens Drive. I went back to Old Swan technical College as an apprentice on day release and night school. I know it;s closed as well. The Gardners Arms was my dad's and my local until we left the area, and emigrated to Wallasey.
Rory Storm, aka Allan Caldwell left on Broadgreen road directly across the entry to Whitehouse Road. there was also a dance school on the corner where Rory's sister Iris danced. We often saw the Beatles at Rory's house, due to Ringo being their Drummer.
I worked on the weekend for Hilltop Grocery store delivering groceries and also had a Sunday paper round for Englishes newsagent.
Sorry I seem to be rambling on, but there are so many memeoties which keep popping into my mind.
      Anyway you take care,
      Cheers,
      Nick Jones,

I'm from widnes now reside in New Zealand. I enjoyed this video however wish you would have headed in the opposite direction from the locks (we swam in them every summer) and headed to the caves just further down the canal. For years and years I've wondered what they are and asked everybody and no one seems to know. Searched the internet to find and can't find anything.

A station that is miles away from the town centre so far that you’d need to catch a bus if you were on foot. For some reason the people I knew from Widnes always got off at hough green? A Big shout out to Mill Brow best eye clinic around I’ve been going there for 30 years passing that vent wondering what it was.

The best way to get a promotion is to over-estimate a job cost then when you come in under budget everyone thinks you're great ...but you usually cannot give the rest to the poor these days
