True, it's a shame that being mentally unstable is seen as being 'privileged' over there.
It doesn't help that Asia is a few steps behind the rest of the world when it comes to mental health and disability assistance.
Not to mention majority of Asian countries encourage discrimination, leading to people being openly shamed by their friends and family for needing professional help.

Beauty standards are definitely a concern, but there are other factors in play. Koreans will almost always rate themselves humbly in any context. Humility is prized in Korea. The proper way to receive a compliment is to politely refuse it.

It has to do with cultural things. A score of 6 or higher is a burdensome score because it is above average. In a culture where humility is a virtue, saying your score low is a comfortable answer.

The country needs to really confront this situation because its quite saddening.
And that's why we need to tell friends, family, coworkers and strangers how beautiful they are from time to time. It makes their day, brings a smile to their faces and might prevent them from undergoing unnecessary surgery

When I saw old koreans videos I feel happy though they were brown or typical east asian looks but still looks humble and honest and kind . Today may be they are developed but mentality still very old and whatever they do need more. Human are strange though. BTW , Korean naturally not pale though , they are yellowish white before.
Hmm I really don't understand where this statement of Koreans are not "naturally pale"keeps getting thrown around. Isn't it normal to have a variety of shades? There are naturally transparent pale Koreans ,yellowish pale Koreans , tan Koreans, etc. You cannot assume everyone goes off white tanning. A lot of factors affect our ever changing human genetics and probably has to do with why there were more Koreans with melanin before vs now.

Young Koreans have relatively pale skin compared to their older generations because, sadly, they can't enjoy their lives, working indoors. On the contrary, retiress can and do. Also, most young people don't get jobs working outdoors, which is another contributor.
I'm not denying there is a preference for light skin in Korea, but preference doesn't make any difference when it comes to skin color within a few decades. Preference or medical methods can't beat genes or environments. Look at the map and see the latitude of Korea, and learn the history of where their ancestors came from.

Hearing someone had surgery done is actually a flaw in my eyes. Seeing the beautiful pictures, but knowing that it is artificial and was achieved unnaturally... sometimes I understand the reasons, but often I don't and it's really sad, that natural, normal and healthy beauty is looked down upon.

I think this is one of the few instances where the Confucian proclivity for humility actually results in a greater net harm. If perfectly normal and attractive women are rating themselves as subpar in looks, that will only fuel the pathological desire for unnecessary cosmetic procedures. There's nothing inherently wrong with idolizing celebrities, but when ordinary people feel the need to modify their physical appearance in an attempt to conform to unrealistic beauty standards, it will plague an entire generation with body dysmorphia.

Ever since ive learned about plastic surgeries being common in Korea, Ive stopped being a fan of the singers but i still love their music, and some personalities. Im just always skeptic of their faces if thats real or plastic. Like im never really a fan of people not appreciating their own original natural beauties.

I believe that korean beauty standards were made because of korean idols and celebrities. Many idols look the way they do because of surgery, they are also chosen in the first place because they already look good as well. Koreans see these celebrities and think that surgery can help them too. With 1 in 5 Koreans getting plastic surgery. I believe that we have to remember that not everyone looks like or can look like a South Korean idol, it is a very toxic thing to idolize them and compare yourself to them.

This is honestly so sad as a society. A lot of ppl glorify South Korea and it’s ppl, but honestly their society is very judgmental, demanding, competitive, perfectionist, and they seem to only care about looks. Now I know other countries/cultures are also like this but it seem like in South Korean (and other East Asian countries) it’s very much worse.
