Not Your Typical Guga Video. Guga uses his skills to take Uncle Roger and me on a little trip to Japan by cooking Tonkotsu Miso ramen in the style of an anime character that we all know...NARUTO! He might not get the Uncle title for this ramen, but I would eat it anytime.

Brian : I want the Uncle title SO BADDDDDD
Also Brian : mixed up Uncle Roger and Jamie Oliver
😂
that's hurts badly :D
Lost all chance at an Uncle title, now. RIP
Goodbye 'Uncle' title
EMOTIONAL DAMAGE
On a few occasions, I have introduced people to Uncle Roger by describing him as a Malaysian Borat.
😂
Even if there's no collab coming, here's hoping Uncle Roger finally reviews Brian's Egg Fried Rice video. Im eager to see what he thinks
Yup!!!!
In the anime Naruto orders his tonkotsu ramen with miso so that part is authentic. Everything Guga did seemed authentic except for the beef bone and no aroma oil.
Making Naruto Ramen with menma? He always order his ramen without it, because he actually dislikes the stuff with a passion.
Uncle Roger's comment on tying the pork literally killed me😂😂
😂
Miso and tonkotsu ramen aren’t exclusive, it’s a popular combination and probably my favourite when I lived in Tokyo
@12:50 tonkatsu 😂 even chef Brian is guilty
🤭
Can we get 3 way collab Brian, Guga , and Uncle Roger ? Maybe Brian and Guga have a cook off with Uncle Roger as judge lol I'd love that
Hell yeah, I’d love to watch that.
That would be amazing lol
and when papa Joshua walks in...
How about a Brian sandwich with Guga made meat
Beaten with a rolled up newspaper? Man, Uncle Roger's parents were soft. I got hit with a Chinese Feather Duster (if you know, you know).
I love watching Guga cook food. Some of his experiments are crazy, but more often than not he can make it work.
Egh.. the dreaded feather duster… it is thin, light and SWIFT lol
Is that like the duster in IP man movie?

A very good thing i was told some years ago is "Ramen is all about being a local dish. Whereever you are, you will get another kind of ramen because you're in another place".
So according to this, i wouldn't even mind to call everything authentic Ramen as long as it's made from stuff from your region that fit's your place of living.
(But don't call it something like "Naruto Ramen" - just stick with "My version of Ramen")
The only qualifier for authentic Raman is being made with Raman noodles.
Uncle Roger, constantly hurt over aunty Helen leaving him is still so funny 🤣
I met Nigel Ng after his show in Helsinki when he did little 'meet and greet' for us fans. He's amazing guy! 💙
Great comments in this video chef 👍
Thank you! 🙏
Yesterday Guga dropped a video where he deep fried a brisket in bone marrow… you should check that one out lol
Just added to my list!
Actually. the original tonkotsu ramen (Hakata ramen) uses thin noodles, so as to create more noodle and soup ('that's the technical term for the broth + tare concoction) action. Another reason is so because the cook faster, as Hakata ramen started from street food for after work drunk salarymen.
Your channel is growing so fast. I know how busy you get running your own restaurant. Keep up the good work dog
Thank you! ❤️
You over here for the ad like "draw me like one of those french girls" lmfao
LOL
Coming from Japan, Guga did a pretty excellent job here. Roger said you can't just put miso into the water but Japanese people would definitely beg to differ. It doesn't look like the miso you get here, so maybe it's not the same, though. Idk. The only thing I would do differently is putting the pork in a pan while it's in the smoker. It would let the pork marinade in its own juices while cooking. Smoking might not be absolutely authentic but it is definitely going to add something great.
Honestly I feel like if you went to Japan and sold "Authentic" Ramen... and the pork was smoked... No one would call you out.
@@Nionivek here in the uk they sell “authentic ramen” with sweetcorn, peas and carrots…
@@Nionivek I can pretty much guarantee they wouldn't. Lots of places have something a little different about their ramen. It would be boring if it were all exactly the same.
It's awesome to get your opinion, honestly cooking is about innovation. Imagine if someone didn't ask for meat inside bread and sandwich was never created. I know this restaurant in Japan sells Chicken Sushi, here in the U.S. it would be dangerous due to problems with our chicken. In a restaurant setting maybe it's difficult but where i work we mess around with random Sushi ideas non are Authentic but taste great.👍
@@deazysleazy Eww.
11:25 I think this shows that making food for a RUclips video is different from making actual food for eating. All those juices look nice for the camera but ultimately, those juices are just being lost to the cutting board. Leaving it alone and letting it rest overnight is key to locking those juices in the meat until you can slice it when it's chilled and then that way the juices go into the bowl rather than cutting board.
Uncle roger is back with roasting Jaime Oliver.

I'm not an ramen expert, but if I was going this route i might have smoked the marrow bones or the ribs and used a good chili oil. I have a mostly French/Italian/South American background. Uncle Roger would put his leg down. I also would have roasted the veg as well. But I am Trying to master some authentic Asian dishes so i love these videos. I always take something away from these posts and I'm going to check out the Ramen guy. I know how to make fresh ramen properly but when it comes to stock my French side always almost takes me over without thinking about it.
🤘
Also it's good that Guga made dashi broth but kombu should never be in hot boiling water it needs to simmer gently or leaving it submerged in water for a long period of time so the kombu gets soft and the water is infused with the kombu otherwise putting kombu in boiling water makes the dashi sticky.
Uncle Roger roasts Jamie Oliver's Indonesian salad in his new video
COming soon!
lol on the mattress poses.... So funny. Thanks for the laughs. Great review too.
Thanks for watching Lori!
0:00 "Draw me like one of your french girls Uncle Roger...."
Lol
12:41 tonkotsu
for ramen you usually do want the aromatics in the last hour, since the taste they give off after one hour is usually the one people want (when you leave it for too long it gets weaker and also less fresh/vibrant? and darker but that's not really a thing *most* ramen chefs want)
ALSO, if you're going to react to a video from The Way of Ramen, i'd suggest one of the reactions, maybe the one to Joshua Weissman's tonkotsu ramen. those videos tend to give a lot of info on various ramen related topics
Brian posing on the bed doing thirst traps haiyaaaaaaa😂🤣🤣
😂
@@ChefBrianTsao 🤣🤣omg Brian finally replied to me
I played back the ad two times just to see Brian recline on it. Sexy shot.
You know it's a good video when the only thing criticized is the pronunciation.
Also, is Uncle Roger a food channel or a react channel?
What is yours Brian? xD
Uncle Roger channel is a reaction channel that started about fried egg rice, and now he is reacting to anything Asian food, while sometimes doing some cooking, like when he did a carbonara pasta once
Chashu and char siu were the same thing chashu was just changed to braised because its more convenience. if you see takeaway they often braised the pork and then deep fry to mimic barbeque
Japanese culture has adapted 叉燒 as chāshū (チャーシュー). Unlike its Chinese variant, it is prepared by rolling the meat into a log and then braising it at a low temperature.[8] The Japanese adaptation is typically seasoned with soy sauce, sake, mirin and sugar or other sweetener, without the red food colouring, or five-spice powder. It is a typical ingredient for toppings in rāmen.[
Yes, Adam Liaw's channel is a must if you like some good information/cooking techniques
Im an asian and I do not like chicken feet
Its weird because we asian treat feet as dirty body parts because its touching the ground, and then we eat chicken feet. Im baffled by that
SAME!!!
It came up briefly in the video, would definitely recommend that way of ramen channel, I really enjoy that channel and learned stuff there, would be cool to see a reaction/review video on that too 😯
🤘
Hmm i think you should consider putting both Uncle Roger and Gugas video very early in the Show more of the description field.. even if you get plugged by a brand they are the primary focus of ur video and is the reason you can make this video. But i rly like the format of you watching Uncle Roger videos cus its the perfect amount of comedy and facts. Im sure over time i will increase my cooking skill just knowing these basics.
Ohhh this is were the sandwich comes in..... That he says on the Japanese week on GBBS on buns
Brian: I want the Uncle title SO BADDDDD
Also Brain: mess up the pronunciation of Tonkotsu ramen while reacting to a video of Uncle Roger point out Guga mess up the pronunciation of tonkotsu

11:56 u forgot Joshua buddy ...
19:35 So THAT'S what e621 is a reference to...
Bro, my typical ramen is your everyday instant ramen plus whatever I can find in the kitchen. And it's DELICIOUS. If he serves me that I'm asking for seconds without even tasting it.
Did you almost call yourself giajin?!?!.... lol, had me cracking up
I have a small Camp Chef pellet smoker on my apartment patio. It's one of the best things I've ever bought!
Narutos ramen is technically a miso base with extra chosu but i think guga wanted a richer broth and thats why he went with tonkotsu base with miso added for not only his personal taste but Angel's as well
You know what's funny? I made my first ever Ramen today. It is now resting in the fridge until tomorrow. And here I see you react to a Ramen video which I loved. BTW Jamie did it again. Uncle Roger reacted to him destroying Indonesian salad. I recommend you will check this out. And the video in the Ramen shop when Uncle Roger learned how to do it is just awesome.
How did it taste did you have pork with it
@@Nevae_696 It tasted terrible I failed miserably. I wanted to have Pork with it but I didn't find something with quality so I went on Beef instead. Since then I have tried few more times and eventually succeeded. I have a problem to find here top quality Pork because Pork in Israel even at his best is among the lowest quality in the world.
im pretty sure Nigel got bored of all the fried rice.
so if you made a different asian dish that's a bit more interesting, Then he might make a reaction to it
Kinda wish you told Nigel when you met him in person about your fried rice video so that Uncle Roger can review it. But I get it, I wouldn't want to do a shameless plug when I meet someone as big as him for the first time. Unless of course the fried rice video wasn't made when you met him. I'm pretty new to Uncle Roger, reactions to his videos, and your channel as well.
Guga did say this was HIS version of it, so it’s not gonna be a traditional ramen. That said, dayum that looks delicious
I’d eat the shit out of it for sure
Brian: Ton'kat'su
Me:😃😄😂🤣
Uncle roger:👀
Neighbour has a smoker...lets us know every time he smokes something. So I open up the windows! Unfortunately all I have is a smoke box in the BBQ itself. Some flavour, but not as deep/cool as a real smoker. BUT, it does make great smoked salt, which I use on basically everything...
Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching!
Might want to rewatch the guga video, both of you 😅. He didn't say it'd be the exact naruto version, he said "my take" meaning it's his version. So you can't fault him for that. Besides most of the things he did, flavor and aesthetic wise will work
I'd definitely love to see you react to way of Ramen. He's got some amazing videos.

Marinading before cooking is typical of western particularly American cooking especially with Grilling
I made sinigang previously. If I recall how my parents make it, they boil the meat, remove the scum, and dump the water used to boil the meat. Out of the RUclips videos I watched, I decided to brine the meat so blood will be extracted, then bring it to a boil. There’s still some scum that appeared, but not a lot. I didn’t change the water after the boil though. Should I have dumped the boiled water?
React to Uncle Roger going to chilli jam factory please
hmm, does anyone else want to see that one?

Miso Tonkotsu Ramen is bae.
Did he just put uncle Roger and Jamie Oliver in the same sentence
Even Chef Brian mispronounces Tonkotsu! Lol
You two need to get together with auntie Liz and Esther and do a full blown dinner. Or the three of you find a way to get uncle Roger and Jamie Oliver in the same room. That would be funny.
Jamie may not make it out of the room lol
@@ChefBrianTsao that maybe true, but it'll be kinda interesting before the eventual yellow tape is covering the scene of the crime though. Who knows? Lol.

Traditional tonkAtsu ramen 12:50
I've seen a bunch of terrible Ramen videos on RUclips now. As far as authenticity goes, this is one is pretty damn good.
The miso should have been made into a tare. Using a miso-based tare with a tonkotsu broth is fine, but if you are making it the traditional way, they need to be separated.
And yeah, don't boil miso...
It's missing aroma oil.
There was only a glimpse of it in this video and I don't remember if there was more in the original, but it looked like he boiled the kombu and bonito flakes when making dashi. That's definitely something to avoid, as well.
But yeah, I actually think this is fairly authentic. Simplifying the tare to just miso and pre-mixing it is something you would never do in a restaurant, but let's be real - miso alone is plenty flavourful and salty, so it actually does make a decent tare all by itself. And at low volumes you don't need to care that much about keeping it separate and mixing it in the bowl.
I personally do keep my tare and broth separate, but I also tend to go for shouyo Ramen over miso. (And a chicken chintan broth)
In british cuisine you have what's called culinary gate keeping you can kind of see it in Italian pizza in America but what Uncle Roger is doing is Chinese cuisine gatekeeping And it is much much needed
