He's an amazing guitarist and did a great job on Songs About Jane (and much of the older stuff). A shame the band took a step back so Levine could shine. But still, as far as pop rock goes, James is still one of the best from this era, he plays everything right in the pocket

Agreed I love James and Songs About Jane had some of my favorite guitar riffs ever, the rest of the stuff Maroon 5 made after that was blah.

Wow, you are so cool! I love the way you tell the story behind this song, or any song, for that matter! Kudos!

Wait... why the fuck is the 3rd chord a B minor chord and not B major???? Have I been hearing this wrong for YEARS?! Adam sings a D# over the B chord so the fact that he’s playing B minor is sort of... wrong? Wtf

    • @YKing1

      He's singing the b9 mate, it's a rock song

@@YKing1 b9 of what? We’re in the key of C# minor - the 3rd chord in the progression that James plays is B minor. Bmin does contain the b9 (D natural), which is exactly my point: Adam still sings a D# in the melody over that chord. In other words, the melody is 100% diatonic while the chord progression is slightly chromatic… it sounds like shite. And displays that they don’t know what they’re doing/ can’t hear the wrong note? Woof

@@tristen_jarvis_music You're correct that it's not the b9, my bad.
However, when he plays the Bm chord, the emphasis in Adam's vocals is on G# F# E and C#, the D# is just a passing note.
It's technically the b11 but almost no one uses the b11 in a chord because of the dissonance with the #9/M3rd.
