  • This is the NEW Toyota GR Yaris review. Designed as a homologation special road rally car, the new GR Yaris is no normal hot hatch. Using knowledge and technology from WRC to deliver a true sports car feeling every day. Developed with the experts at Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team, GR Yaris incorporates advanced technology including GR-FOUR, Toyota's first sports AWD system in 20 years, and an awesome 1.6-litre, 3 Cylinder Turbo engine developing 257bhp and 266lb ft torque - this lightweight special is a proper road rocket!

dont know about - Golf R sales could have been gouged. Besides the chances of VAG building a bespoke tracing platform, compared to bastardizing an existing hatchback platform, to build Rs, are very very slender. Toyota had balls to do this and, even if they lose money on every unit, the brand marketing halo value will be far bigger. The plethora of positive and gushing reviews here is testament to that.

Mr JWW thank you for such wonderful content once again. May I please ask how this Yaris GR compares to your S1 in terms of outright speed and dynamics?
In addition terms of feel, which one feels quicker 0-60 and top end too and also which one handles better on B roads?
    Thank you very much
    Joel

I for one really appreciate a throttle blip option in manual cars. My foot is a veritable flipper, and heel-and-toeing is just not possible in most cars or safe to undertake. I applaud Toyota and other manufacturers for implementing these driving aids for those of us who are not so vertically challenged.

Hands down one of the best reviews on this car. The car is simply AMAZING! After years and years, of waiting we finally get a Honda Civic Type R in the US but then Toyota released this little beast of a hot hatch that sadly will not be coming to the US. I just hope Toyota is able to sprinkle some of that GR Yaris magic on a GR Corolla and bring that over here. Thanks for the review and your excitement in driving this car says it all. Well done Toyota!

At the end of the day, it would be just a jumped up Corolla. This is a damn homologation special, with all the engineering and thinking put into it(even though it will never race this year); you can't compare them.

I’m from the future, and I wanted to let you know…….not only can you compare them, it’s actually a better overall street car. You don’t think aikido Toyota put as much thought/development into the car bearing his name? Obviously, Yaris having the homologation cred…..makes it awesome, but it really doesn’t have anything on the Corolla.

Someone new to the car can get the feel of it and understand it and then try and copy it to their own driving. Or if you take it to the track and just want to focus on driving lines and breaking points its there to help you. I dont see the bad point about it since you can turn it off.
