- This is what it is like when I get home from work in the evening. I change and give Todd some cuddles then head upstairs before dinner.
Todd is a 7-year-old neutered male cat at the time of this video. Todd and his dad have been learning to communicate with each other since May of 2022 with the help of recordable buttons. We aim to let Todd express himself and tell me his wants and needs. Currently, Todd has 53 words on his soundboard. This channel is dedicated to Todd learning to “talk”. Billi was a true pioneer in cat-human communication. Her interactions with Mom Kendra and Dad were amazing. I know you'll enjoy seeing Todd use his buttons and watching the love between him (and Glamour and Paulie) with their Dad as well! Their Mom makes an occasional appearance as well. I found Billi first, then discovered Todd. Subbed both and had double the fun.

He must wait all day for you to get home. He clearly loves you so much. 😊 It was impressive the way he asked for a toy both Now and Later. And it is so sweet that he is including Paulie in his requests for activities!

Todd's fur is so silky and shiny! He must really love your attention. It was sweet of him to ask you to brush Paulie and to tell you he loves you. He's one very smart and very lucky kitty.
We have a very special bond and enjoy the brushes.

He has a very similar looking coat my girl Adeline. She’s also a medium hair tuxedo, but she only has a splash of white on the left hand side of her face
She’s very sick at the moment and unfortunately veterinary expenses aren’t subsidised by Medicare like most medical things for people in Australia. It’s looking like it might be FIP, but I won’t know for sure for a couple more days - we’re trialing remdesevir tablets (the injections are way out of my financial range - I was already rejected for a loan large enough to cover an MRI)
Anyway, I love watching Todd a lot. His quickness, kindness, and general Velcro-y nature remind me a lot of my girl Adeline - I if they very distant relatives? (Since I’m in Australia, it would be many, many, many generations back)

There is also the possibility, that after first thinking about playing Laser Mouse later - Todd thought it over, and decided it would be fun to play with it right away.... - Or, then he thought that it was best both ways. 😀

The pace and intent of ‘play’ and ‘whirly’ being so fast surprised me. It looked like Todd’s trying to button talk as fast as you do lol
I have found that if he feels strongly about something, he talks fast. Generally it a negative emotion. The fastest one he has done was when he was very frustrated. I could figure out what he was asking for, and he said Want Dad No just about as fast as you can read it. There was also the time he had a scratch or bite on his back, and he asked me to look at it. I asked him who ouched Todd's back, and he went right to his board quickly and pressed Glamour. Lol.

After Cuddles, Todd presses Dad Later Now Laser-mouse. I don't think he was asking for Laser-mouse both Later and Now, I think he meant he would spend more time or Cuddles with Dad Later, but Now is playtime with Laser-mouse. 😻

Todd is like, I missed you sooo much today, Dad. I did nothing but nap and dream of what we would do when you got home. What a greeting he has for you! That's so awesome.
I'm sitting outside with my little semi-feral kitten/cat Drizzle. He's had a recent growth spurt and is now noticeably taller, but not any thicker/heavier. I bought my indoor "giant" cat Noah and Drizzle some catnip toys today. I've read that about 85% of cats like catnip and 15% do not. But ALL the cats I've ever had loved catnip. So I wondered if Drizzle would like it... And, he does! He was rubbing his face all over the toy... Kicking it with his back feet... rolling around on the ground. I went inside to get my phone to video him playing... and yep, he chose the exact moment I started the video to get up and walk to the fence to groom... Then he lay down in the soft grass in the shade for a cat nap. I guess it is "first cat nip, then cat nap" for Drizzle. 😺
Aww, I'm glad he likes it. Glamour and Paulie love it but Todd does not care for it.

Is it me or is Todd really fast with these button pushes, like Human fast. Wow.
I have found that when Todd feels strongly about something, he knows what he wants to say and pushes them fast.

3:28 Todd was telling you he was done interacting with you and wanted laser mouse. Also PLEASE please mirror his requests with the buttons, add 'now whirly' or 'play whirly' but give him more grammar and other sentences. However, what you're doing is obviously good, Todd's doing so well!
I do mirror his requests at times. I do not include it here often to keep the videos shorter. Everyone expects Dad can use the buttons.

I keep forgetting to ask you. Is Todd the only one that shows any interest in using the buttons or do the others just not use them much?? Todd is very intelligent, not saying the others are not. Maybe not as interested in them as Todd.
Todd is the only one. The other show no interest in them. Remember, we are asking if they want to learn a foreign language, just like people. Most do not want to put the effort into it.

If you put an identical button set downstairs, would Todd use them to talk to Mom during the day? I realize that might not be great, given her childcare responsibilities, but I’m curious whether Todd thinks she understands button communication. Does he use them to talk to her when she comes upstairs?
He does not talk to anyone else even if they use the buttons. We do not want buttons downstairs as we would never be able to watch a movie or sleep. Lol.

I think Todd looked like he was limping slightly on his front right leg, does he get arthritis?
I also thought he was moving a little stiffly. Almost but not quite limping. It looks like he’s favouring one side.
No, he does not have arthritis. Todd has a chronic condition that can affect his balance. You may see him walk a little off, stumble, or trip.
Who needs more attention, the grandson or Todd? 😉
A better question is who drools more, lol. I will often go to my wife with the shoulder of my shirt wet and ask was I holding the grandbaby or Todd.

Todd gets 3 at a time and his last buttons were belly (body part), Help, and Treat
