      Any issue with the switch? I called Ram services if the 2015 Ecodiesel can use the Rotella T6 5W-40 and they told me not do use it on the 2015.

    T6 is now using the same gas-to-liquid base stock that's used in the Pennzoil Platinum per Shell product info sheets. Good stuff.

    Thanks you proved my point about gaining mileage at the cost of long engine life. And that’s for gas and diesel. And I also agree if a aftermarket oil filter comes apart your warranty is gone but if the OEM comes a part they have to honor the warranty.
    Keep the vids coming. And hope your doing well now that your out on your own.....

    Quick update at 49,000 miles my Turbo failed, the service electric throttle cable came on. The dealer originally thought the engine failed but later said it was the turbo. It was a two week delay. Not even a week later the Service DEF light appears. I am starting to feel this truck is going to be a problem. Might take it to another dealer, seems the dealer struggled through fixing it. Warranty covered it with the $100 detuctible.

    I was at the dealer and asked the salesman if he can check on a 2017 Ecodiesel. The typical sales approach of asking about deposit and such. I tell the salesman that I bought a Ecodiesel from this dealer and looking for a trade-in. He leaves the desk to talk to his manager. The salesman returned and said "we don't have any Ecodiesel in stock. I have plenty of Rams in stock without the diesel engine. "I talked to another salesman asked about what happened to the Ecodiesel Ram. He said"Sorry, the EPA has stopped any sales of the Ecodiesel." Now it's a waiting game.

    So, I guess the take-away here is that we should ignore our dealer provided owner's manual advice advising 10.5 quarts of 5W-20 and switch to 5W-40 Rotella T-6 and 10.0 quarts? Interesting. I bought my 2015 recently (used, of course) and I have no idea what it's been running prior to now. I guess I'll see if the engine holds together or if it begins to come apart.

    I have 38,000 miles on my 2015 Ecodiesel. I brought my truck to the dealer back in August for an oil change. . I ask the guy to reset my oil life monitor since the service tech forgot to do it. I noticed on the service invoice that an update was done. The guy said it was a system update for the vehicle. I guess it was the oil. My rear tires are worn , dealer never rotated tires. It's good I found this video. Can't trust these dealers to perform work as they seem inundated every time I go.

    Can you explain how Shawn by-passed his 8HP70 coolant heat exchanger? This was a very important mod he did but did not video it. These 195-198*F transmission temps are ridiculous! My ram did not come with the factory HD transmission cooler which incorporates a 160*F by-pass I think that is plumbed into the transmission lines so their temps never get over 185*F. Mine on the other hand rise to 210*F while towing a small 3Klb Inclosed trailer. I did install a very large tru-cool transmission cooler downstream of the factory cooler (in the radiator) as well as a Derele remote spin-on transmission filter kit without thinking about this by-pass. My temps never changed due too this heat exchanger is constantly heating my trans fluid with 204*F coolant. Which is crazy. I need to either by-pass the coolant with a inline temp controlled by-pass or just totally by-pass the exchanger all together. Shawn and I talked about this a time or 2 but he never got around to a video on how he did it. I have since drained and switched to Red Line D6 fluid to help handle the heat. Any thing you can add would be appreciated!

    Hey.. Say you owned an F-150 with the 3.0 diesel... what oil would you put in it? The manual says a 5W30 FA-4 oil meeting their new WSS-M2C214-B1 spec, but it also states for "severe service" you shoud use a 5W40 CK-4 oil. Given what we saw with the ram, would you go straight for the 5W40? I feel the FA-4 oil is to meet fuel economy numbers only. Thanks!

    • @RamEcoDieselSource
      @RamEcoDieselSource  7 лет назад

      You don't have to but in general as you have seen on the 2016 models if there is a change in weight there are updates that go along with that for the oil life monitor and general operating parameters. I recently had my 2015 into the dealer and sure enough they updated the pcm.

  • @campermike8879

    Why would a gas engine with only 10K miles need serious engine work? Service history shows the truck was well taken care of. Oil changed done at less thank 3K miles. Looking it over it was a well taken care of truck. Not abused. I was the poor sucker that purchased the truck used only to find out just before I got it there was major work done. Pistons. Rings. connecting rods. Bearings. I put almost 6k on it then get a ticking lifter. When I took it in for that I found out about the other work before.

  • @MichaelDoerner
    @MichaelDoerner 8 лет назад +10

    Not true on the oil filter (OEM vs aftermarket). I can't remember the law name, but unless the OEM part is provided for FREE....aftermarket does not void your warrantee.

    • @RamEcoDieselSource
      @RamEcoDieselSource  8 лет назад +6

      +Michael Doerner yes I know of the law you are talking about. Believe me working at a Ford dealership for 10 years tells a different story that law means squat. The regional Rep and dealer will void the warranty in a second and most won't take the issue to court over the law you are talking of because lawyer and court fees far outweigh the cost of the repair then you are stuck with a high repair bill or junk the truck over $5 difference in filter cost it's just not worth it.

      Can a Dealer Void My Warranty? Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act Explained

      Whether you’re shopping for a
      replacement exhaust system or in the market for an aftermarket cold air
      intake-and you’re worried about your vehicle’s warranty-have no fear.
      AutoAnything is here to give you the 4-1-1 on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty
      Act, which protects consumers from being wrongfully denied warranty
      coverage when they customize their rides.
      If you’re an auto
      enthusiast, chances are, you’ve heard the myth that modding your ride
      with aftermarket accessories automatically cancels your warranty. While
      this may be true in certain circumstances, you shouldn’t take this as an
      absolute. According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a vehicle
      manufacturer cannot void the warranty of your vehicle due to an
      aftermarket part unless they can prove that the aftermarket part was the
      cause of or contributed to the failure of the vehicle (15 U.S.C. 2302
      (C)). This means that a vehicle's warranty cannot be "voided;" the
      dealer can only deny a claim if the stock part failed due to damage or
      unreasonable use.

    • @jamesb2452
      @jamesb2452 6 лет назад +4

      I know I am a little late on this but the Magnuson-Moss Warranty
      Act 100% protects you on this. I worked for an aftermarket parts supplier for 12 yrs. We sold all brands of filters some better than others. We also sold AC Delco, Mopar and Motorcraft. I personally run Wix Filters on my vehicles. You don't have to worry about going to court, I have seen first hand this happen and the customers call Wix or K and N and their lawyers handle it for you. I had one customer who had a Wix filter a dealership said caused a problem and they flew their engineers down to take their own samples and the dealership changed their tune quick. Don't be bullied by dealerships. It's not about price to me, it is about quality. None of the OE truck builders make their own filters anymore. I know for a fact that Wix makes filters for multiple OEMs. I have also seen behind the scenes that some of these filters are not up to the same standards as the premium brand. Sorry for the rant but I cant stand when misinformation is out there about this. BTW I love your channel :)

    • @sportbikerdude
      @sportbikerdude 6 лет назад

      Ram EcoDiesel Source, and the law doesn’t matter because if you look at the arbitration contract assigned to the vehicle, you are forced to arbitration anyway and the warranty claim WILL be denied. Use Mopar filters until the warranty is out.

    Any idea when the updated calibrations might come down the pipeline for the 2014-2015 model years? I have a 2015 and need to do an oil change. I've been using Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30, but I'm debating switching to Mobil Delvac 1 ESP 5W-40. My only hesitation is the lower NOACK of the ESP 5W-30 and lower ash % of the ESP 5W-30. Since I don't tow (only long highway and light off-road, almost no city driving), I don't know how much benefit I'd actually see from the CJ-4 5W-40. I suspect my driving patterns lend themselves to the ESP 5W-30. Thoughts?
    Also, any idea if the current EPA testing hold-ups are going to change this? I know nobody knows for sure, so I'm just asking for an opinion.

      Ram EcoDiesel Source Trust me I've been down this road with KTM about using "their motorex brand oil and KTM oil filter" as soon as I mentioned the magnuson moss act and seeking a lawyer they immediately backed down because they had no leg to stand on. Ken Costello I have that very same issue with my 2015. I used to be so proud of the power and MPH. Now I’m getting about 19.5 city and highway. That’s is the MPH I was getting hauling my boat when my mileage was as advertised. They done my 1st 6 oil changes for free. I wonder if they changed oil type, and flashed the PCM and didn’t notify me of the change. I am fixing to do my 1st oil change myself. I have already bought all the hot shot diesel products to go through my fuel, and oil. Are you sure this was why your MPH changed? Or have you figured anything else out?

    • @robkcra
      @robkcra 5 лет назад +1

      There are two separate and entirely different diesels to be had in Ram trucks. The 2500 & 3500 series takes the much larger and robust (at the risk of understatement) Cummins Diesel and the 1500 series takes the Italian MV 3 litre v-6 named the, “Ecodiesel”.
      Refer to Ram’s various brochures and advertisements to find out the differences.

    Sorry to hear about shaun,
    If i remember correctly, in your previous oil change video you recommended changing the oil every 5K miles. Do you still feel this way even though the trucks oil change sensorineural system seems to be about twice that at 10K miles.
    and is there a difference in oil breakdown on a vehicle that does 10K miles in 2 months versus 10K miles over 10 months?
    I am currently hitting about 4K miles per month on my ecodiesel, so to do an oil change every 5 to 6 weeks seems a bit much. what are your thoughts?

    what are you thoughts on using the Kendall GT-1? I know it's not dealer recommend but I know Sean swore by that stuff

      I used it on my first oil change. It's been about 8500 miles since that change. I only saved about $10 on it over the Penzoil. Can't say I've had the most piece of mind about it. Cold starts are rougher. I certainly won't use Kendall again and wouldn't recommend it for anyone else in this application.

      Stop using Mobil1 ESP, if you haven't already.

      Andrew August why ??

    • @kirktitgen6395
      @kirktitgen6395 7 лет назад

      Well, FCA found out that Mobil1 ESP was one of the reason of high engine failure rate. In July 2016, they ordered all the dealers to drain Mobil1 ESP and fill it with Shell Rotella T6 5W40 in all unsold Jeep and RAM Eco Diesel. FCA also ordered all dealers to us T6 5W40 on any Eco Diesel that will come for service from that point on.

    I have been using mobil 1 for a long time. This video, as well as the manual, state we should use the Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic Heavy Duty Engine Oil 5W-40 and no other, however, the Mobil 1 website states it's Mobil Delvac 1™ ESP 5W-40..
    Is their any reason why the Mobil one won't work as well as the Rotella?

      Yes. If you send a sample into Blackstone Labs with 10,000 miles, I think you'll find less wear metals.

    filter is still $70 rediculouse price bought one the other day and that euro oil was terrible i changed my trucks oil after only 7500 miles and it was ultra black

      7,500 miles is way too long to wait for an oil change there is lots of blow by on boosted engines.

      I disagree. 7500K is not that hard on Rotella t-6 especially if you use a quality filter like a Mann or Wix XP. Rotella T-6is a full synthetic used for big rigs.

    You are ABSOLUTELY wrong and giving false information, they CANNOT void your warranty for not using OEM filters. It is called the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. Of 1975.
    I’ve been an Harley Mechanic for over 15 years and have shared this to dispel confusion about having to use Harley oil or parts. If you’re gonna tell people that, make sure you know the laws. Look up the act yourself.

    • @RamEcoDieselSource

      You are absolutely right about the act, but I speak from the real world experience working at a dealership on the automotive side and also helping with the admin side of things. In a dealership all it takes is a phone call from the service manager to the regional rep with documentation why they believe the warranty should be voided for it to get voided. At that point you are fighting a well funded team of lawyers and engineering experts from the auto manufacturer in court. So I ask is it worth it to use the parts you think are better because you bought into the marketing hype of an aftermarket company or just use the right stuff and never have a problem and if you did you now have the piece of mind the failed part will be covered under warranty?
