- We do an oil change on the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel this Oil Change on this eco diesel engine is a little bit different from your typical oil change procedure as this engine takes a lot longer to drain than usual so you need to take your time draining in order to get all of the oil drained from the 3.0L turbo diesel engine in these ram1500 pickup trucks.

Facts that’s why I watched it cause dodge wanted that price
Love your content, especially the hellkota, but I noticed a few things that need to be mentioned when doing this. First, Run the engine long enough to reach normal operating temps and remove the oil filter cap prior to removing the drain plug to speed up draining and ensure all oil is drained. Additionally, drain plug torque spec is 33ft-lbs and oil filter cap is 18ft-lbs. Wait time between first fill and first start is 15mins. Wait an additional 15mins after turning off engine to check oil level to ensure all oil had returned to the pan. Everything I mentioned is directly from the factory service manual.
Locally Rural King usually has the 2.5 gallon (10 quart) T6 jug for $49.99. Rock auto online usually has 10k rated filters for $10. So $65 oil change. I do a quick change soon as it’s done dripping and it’s worked for this motor for over 400k.

I use amsoil in my ecodiesel. I just tuned mine with the green diesel engineering tune. Completely different truck now. Better in every way

Great video again! Good mention about the remote start but I know my 2017 it has a default setting if the hood is unlatched it won’t work.

The only comment I have is your checking the oil on your driveway that has a slope.....should be checked on a level surface.....but you already know that :)
I have a 2018 ram 1500 2WD eco diesel. I’m at 80k miles. I tow on occasion a 6000lb travel trailer. Truck runs great no major issues and no mods. I noticed your oil on one of you videos was still a golden color. Mine is instantly black. How on earth are you doing it? I was thinking about the green diesel tune. Would something like that be the trick to decreasing soot buildup in the oil?

Any thoughts on using a different 5w-40 diesel oil? I haven’t been able to find any T6 rotella for the last 4 weeks I’ve looked, finally did an oil change with Chevron Delo 5w-40 full synthetic heavy duty diesel oil. It was the only thing I could find, I need to drive 800 miles this weekend, and I figured it was better than driving longer with an overdue oil change.
New oil I’d definitely going to be way better than the old. Old oil doesn’t hold the same viscosity and definitely doesn’t lubricare as good. Something similar is better than nothing

Be very very careful using those blue disposable shop towels. They can and do leave lint behind.

2.5 gallons is 113.00 and I gallon is roughly 60.00 dollars. Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought you said you got 2.5 gallon for 60.00? Thanks for your time.
His prices were pre-Covid. They skyrocketed during Covid and have come down slightly since the peak, but still ridiculous
A little hint when you’re draining the oil on some engines you need to loosen the oil filler cap to let air come into the engine so the oil can drain out it’s like turning a soda pop bottle.upside down there’s only way for air to get in is through the neck of the bottle. And you do not need to wait half an hour I would let that thing drain for five minutes with oil cap loosened and Collett good the oil that is in there it’s not contaminated and it’s negligible amount I change my oil in less than 10 minutes….
People who use factory oil filters that cost $60 are “dumb“ because Mopar does not make filters they’re made by someone else and a stamp is put on them probably K&N who knows it could be found out the K&N makes very very good filters I would never be afraid of using a KNN on anything and I do multiple vehicles that is a ridiculous price you could buy six oil changes with the K&N filters if you wanted to change your oil more often LOL it’s a no-brainer.
Yeah we loosened the full cap in this video and I bought the Mopar filter to compare for one oil change since so many people argue it’s different but will be using the k&n since it’s identical
Wal-Mart sells the Mopar filter for this one for $12 bucks where I'm at.

MOPAR says to break the seal on the oil filter housing. Not draining the oil, infrequent fuel filter changes kill these.

8.5 qts. Capacity according to the manual.
2018 Ram Ecodiesel is 10.5 quarts. Not sure of the year on this one.
what do you reccomend using for replacing the fuel filter. just bought a 2015 ecodiesel and want to get everything cleaned up.
I buy the filter kit from Doc's Diesel. $60 for oil, fuel, cabin & air filters. Been through 2 so far, they are great!

Would it be bad to use 05-w40 Euro oil? I have a 2015 1500 ecodiesel and a oil change shop told me I bought the wrong oil so id have to use their t6 05-w40, but they didnt charge me for the oil , just the 45 buck service fee.
I wouldn’t be putting anything but Rotella synthetic oil in it

My father purchased a 2015 eco diesel new and he died in 2019 and I’ve had this truck every since my dad never had problems and I never had problems with this truck. I’m still driving it to this day and it runs good. At a 115k
