Man, Tarkenton was just smart about it. He wasn't juking guys, and he wasn't muscling out of tackles, he was just making simple cuts that he knew the big guys coming for him couldn't pull off with all their extra weight. It's like watching a physics demonstration.

He often was. Deacon Jones of the Rams has often said that he and Merlin Olsen talked about trying to hold Tarkenton up so one of them could take out his knees. They hated to as Jones put it "Chase that little fucker everywhere."

Great Tarkenton to end it, BUT there is a play ive been waiting forever to relive where he scrambles for 18 seconds..It still might be the longest play from scrimmage(?)

Honestly, no it wasn't. He had a clear opening to run to the right and instead he chose to stop and run backwards towards the endzone. It was a really bad decision that worked out mostly due to luck and partly due to his athleticism.
The decision making was very poor.
The clip immediately after was almost as bad. Wilson ignored a clear 1st down he could have had by running to the left sideline.

Tristan MacLeod, Hmm... Young and Rodgers both spent years backing up Hall of Famers and in some ways both surpassed their Hall of Fame predecessors (is Rogers even capable of throwing a pick?) But Tarkenton’s achievements came out of a completely different era and some of his records stood for so many decades. It’s hard to compare. I might give you Steve Young, he was an insane scrambler and a brilliant passer for sure... but Rogers? Yeah he’s got the arm, no doubt about that, but I just don’t see the mobility, not like Tarkenton.

I'm sorry, but you have a QB scramble video and no Steve Young? He is has the 2nd most rushing yards for a QB in history, I know its hard to choose, but I grew up watching him, I have not seen the combination of running and throwing since.

    1982 Oilers @ Eagles, Archie Manning's scramble.
He wound up 35 yards behind the line of scrimmage and still managed to throw underhand to Mike Renfro for a 9-yard gain. Started at the Philly 45, and he ended up throwing from his own 20-yard line. One of the greatest non-sacks in NFL history.

There should of been a video of Bobby Douglas, the year he ran for over 900 yards. He had a middle line backer on his back and he carried him and then another lineman for a 14 yard gain. Douglas was a monster who was hard to bring down.

I do not think it is in this clip of Fran Tarkenton near the end. It is a black and white clip I saw once saying that Fran Tarkenton held the record as the longest scramble behind the line of scrimmage for a Quarterback. I seemed like forever. You did give a good representation of Fran Tarkenton in this clip. One of the best Quarterbacks who ever lived!
