I was just about to comment this. John, doing what he does best: describe things in an accurate yet humorous way that leaves me with a vague sense of foreboding.
I had a really rough 2019 and 2020, after a certain point when really bad things happened I wasn't reacting much anymore, it was more of a case of well gee, I didn't expect that. I became totally numb to heartbreaking news. Inside I knew that was really unhealthy. I'll be glad when this pandemic is behind us.

As a Finnish person, I really have to thank John Oliver because half the shit I know about the United States came from Last Week Tonight. It's simultaneously so informative and so entertaining!

Same here. It's like getting an inside look into how they set up/prepare for their shows. Also, John Oliver is very quiet about his personal life. He normally doesn't talk about his family/home life at all... thus the blank, white wall behind him when he did his zoom show. Hearing about his family is pretty cool. And, I really like his sense of humor. Both Oliver & Colbert speak, in everyday vocabulary, about subjects most of us don't bother to research but should know about. Same with Trevor Noah... when he talks about stuff, I always get the feeling that he is bewildered by the fact that we don't know about the subject. I guess it's because Oliver & Noah are not USA-born & their points of reference are very different from Americans. Their deliveries are always from a different perspective & I appreciate that... how other countries look at the USA & what we do on any given day.

John's absolutely correct re the explosion of 2020 - "that WAS pretty cool" - it was John, it really was - I loved the first explosion - the second one was even better - cool, awesome, fabulous - one of my favorite moments on tv - (by omg 2020 *deserved* to be blown to smithereens)
Amazingly, when Jon Stewart started, and these two were mere "Daily Show" "correspondents," I had a hard time telling them apart. I've Asperger's, so their voices were all that helped. Now, their reputations and bodies of work speak volumes well beyond mere surface resemblance.
i actually didn't like stephen as a correspondent. AT ALL. later, i realized it was just the cheap role they had him playing and wasn't about him at ALL. he's fantastic.

Two of the coolest TV hosts ever 😎! John Oliver and Stephen Colbert are the only two I will watch. They are both incredibly funny and yet reasonably respectful towards those people who are deserving of respect. Pleased for John Oliver that he moved to the US to do his show because I got to the point where I couldn't stand Mock the Week anymore. He was OK on it but he's definitely grown in confidence over there and his material on his show is miles better than the material on Mock the Week.
