Can we just talk about the fact that British gangsters have secretaries, and they get maternity leave!?
Everywhere in the UK workforce gets paid annual leave, sick pay and maternity and paternity leave!
There are leased that you can break but don't break employment laws. HMRC will find out.
Brilliant comment!
Also when they shoot you they’re terribly sorry for the inconvenience.
*Can we acknowledge that even gangsters pay Healthcare to their workers?*
So it turns out all I actually want in this life is to hear John Oliver do various forms of London accents
Me too!!!
Moi aussi.
Well he's not actually a Londoner, he is a Brummie, so you are going to be disappointed. As a genuine Londoner, I find his stereotypical impression insulting!
He can't do accents. Not even his own.
Exactly!
"Jimmy, I'm covering maternity leave...I'm gonna give them the money AND the knife!" Comedy GOLD!! 😂😂😂
I love how obvious it that a guest bailed at the last minute so John just came in and crushed it with nothing to promote.
But the fact that he is John Oliver is more interesting than whatever the other guest was going to hock, 99 times out of 100.
I was just happy to see John so it didn’t even occur to me that he was filling in for someone. People should bail last minute more often then if this is the result!
“I’m not built for this life, Jim,” is my new personal motto.
Like a depressed Dr. McCoy.
seriously, can we just have the entire show be a conversation between john oliver and stephen colbert
im all for that
Yes, please.
And John Stewart!
@@kenforu1531 and maybe a Seth Meyers cameo
John is a workaholic. He has no more stories 😂
The story of John Oliver working for that gangster needs to be a movie
That's John's James Bond movie. Aversion to Danger or whatever the fake poster said, it REALLY should be a movie that exists for real...
Right? I’ve followed Oliver’s career since he started at the Daily Show and never heard that before.
It would be absolutely amazing and unfortunately we probably couldn’t convince him to sign off on it.
A friend of mine worked her way thru college doing just that.
She was put in a room with a phone. Her ONLY job was to answer when it rang & take a message. 😎
She figured out he was a gangster later.
This should be the next Guy Richie movie starring Jason Statham as Jim, John Oliver as the temp and Melissa McCarthy as the secretary on maternity leave.
I would SO watch that!!
Okay, now that movie HAS to be made. Please, somebody write that and pitch it to a film executive. I need to see this.
Nah John is the one on Mat leave and Melissa is covering - that would be amazing
You should definitely just have a monthly fireside chat together on TV. You are both very funny and play off of each other extremely well, I'd watch it.
I second. We need more of the two of them chatting.
Last month this evening!
They have great chemistry.
I also love that John didn't even have anything to promote. Stephen went to grab whatever he was there to show but he didn't have anything. He just showed up at the Ed Sullivan Theatre and said "i'm here to shoot the shit with stephen". 🤣
That's such a great idea! I think people would look forward to that once a month! Love that thought!
I *need* a two-hour special just about John’s time covering maternity leave for a London gangster’s secretary.
I am a simple man. I see John and Colbert, I click..
You mean Stephen and Oliver?
Me too!!!
So you’re a simple man…with excellent taste!
I see you are also a man of refinement
When does their podcast launch?
John is so much more enjoyable when he's not telling me depressing facts. 😭
"Sad News Facts, with Johnny Joy-Kill"
We need to be told those depressing facts, and I'd rather hear them from him. But it is nice to take a break.
"I Just Wanted to Watch a Comedy Show And Now I Am Sad" with Johny Joy-Killer
I’d gladly take a Netflix special with these 2 just chit chatting about anything. 🤷🏽♂️
The chemistry between them is undeniable and they look like their brothers.
Really? I’ve never seen their brothers. 😉
Brothers from a different mother.
Brothers separated a birth, One raised in the UK and the other in The States. would make a great movie!
I watch Jon Oliver's show every week, and I absolutely love seeing him as a guest on your show, or any interview show for that matter.
I watch John's show every week and he talks so fast it's hard to keep up sometimes. Here he is more natural and he is in no hurry to promote his book or whatever.
John Oliver just made me laugh until I cried! Thanks John, I needed that! It’s Election Day…long live democracy! VOTE PEOPLE!
Watching these two riff is the best ever. The stuff of happiness
I like how John Oliver is clearly the maternity cover for whoever ends up not being able to come on the Late Show, and just turns up to chat shit with his mate anytime they need him.
I could watch these two all day
These two are GOLD together, even if it is just chatting.
John Oliver is always so much fun 😊
Ok once a month we gotta get Steve with John Stewart, John Oliver and Neil Degrase Tyson. Those three are the best guests Steve ever has.
a random london gangster have better health care for his secretary than half of the usa companies have for its workers
I love you both individually BUT TOGETHER it’s nonstop creativity, pure enjoyment and immediately I want MORE💕👵🏽🙏🏽
I love these guys together so much, hilarious! And the fact that their both cracking up?! Priceless!
Great stuff John is hilarious and I love all his accents and the way he giggles as his own jokes.
...and waves his arms like a little boy..
Oh man, first time watching these two together on screen. Wow the chemistry! When i watched today's first clip, i was so excited to click on the 2nd then this 3rd one. I can't get enough!
Same
Welcome to the rabbit hole where “John Oliver and Stephen Colbert talk about x” pops up daily
You'll be happy to learn then that John is a pretty regular guest on Colberts show and all the clips are fun!
John Oliver is a brilliant comedian. Love his work!
Whisky James: John has done more to fix America than most politicians. He is one of our best imports (Also Trevor Noah !!!!)
@@macforme Yes both have been great for our [US] country.
@@whiskyjames4200 👍
I believe John Oliver is the single most entertaining guest Colbert could ever have appear. Every night should be Oliver night! Smashing! 👍🏻😂👍🏻
Stephen Colbert, Steve Carrel and John Oliver should do a show together. I'll be dinamite.
Imagine being Jim, years later, and that one fucker filling in for your secretary during maternity leave shows up years later on TV. Man, that's gotta be weird.
I would pay big money to just watch these guys tell stories all night
I love the one about the engagement question. No possible way to answer that without offending someone.
I've been rewatching New Tricks on Hulu. So many seedy London gangsters in that show along with some endearing retired Cockney cops who had their heyday in the 70s. John's Cockney gangster impression is INCREDIBLE and his experience sounds spot on. 😄
I LOVE John Oliver. I wish today wasn't the last episode for a while. He makes me laugh harder than I have in a long time. I can't get enough, he's hilarious even describing his real life.
John Oliver is one of the best things to ever happen to the USA.
"is this Duke Nukem?" Oh my sweet sweet innocent Stephen. Duke Nukem is NOT that XD
He knows Duke Nukem, though. That's impressive.
These guys together are hilarious. Also a duke nukem shoutout!? That’s a deep cut.
That was awesome. I hadn't heard that name in over 2 decades.. Duke Nukem and the original 1993 Doom really set up my love for FPS.
John Oliver is a very funny man. I enjoyed watching all of John Oliver and Stephen Colbert's videos together. I've laughed a lot. You made my day, thank you.
I spent part of the pandemic watching every single one of John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight” on RUclips. But my very favorite episode is when he married the cabbage. I guess Terri Gross did not announce that engagement!
Now I want to see John Oliver in a Guy Ritchie Gangster movie. There has to be a role as an accountant or something for John in one of Richie's upcoming movies.
He did the Brick Top accent perfectly.
I could totally imagine John as a replacement for Jeremy Strong as Matthew Berger, in Ritchie's "The Gentlemen". Or a comparable role in another movie.
I had the same thought. I could see Jon as threatening attorney. Not somebody who does dirt but let’s somebody know things could get a lot worse if they don’t take the deal. Thinking Pete Postlewaite in Usual Suspects.
It’s like bc they can never work out their dinner date Stephen now instead gets John on the show as much as humanly possible
did he just mix up Duke Kaboom and Duke Nukem???
Hail to the King, Baby.
Keanu Reeves rulz
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert officially announces their new annual award, "The Funniest Man Alive".
Stephen: We gotta go…
Forget the rest of the show and just make the entire thing the conversation between them. Between the softball monologue jokes and whatever else is on the show, him joking around with John is just about the only thing that actually kills outside of his studio.
God, I just love these two human beings so frickin much. And when they get together? PERFECTION.
John Oliver and Steven Colbert, two of my favorite people on the same place
What a great end to a great interview 😂
Stephen should have said "so I heard you have a book coming out" and then John would have to write a book. 😂
If there’s an extended version of John Oliver being on please please release it!! All the John vids were so so good 😂
Oh John... Such a delight, always... 😀
It took me three hours to get this whole show on RUclips but as always it was well worth the effort.
Don't foget to vote! We got 4 inches of fresh powder snow here in Montana and we are all voting!
Absolutely silly fun, perfect any time of day! Thank you 🫶🏼
I had never heard of John Oliver, and here he is, and a really good comic!
0:56 Ok but his London gangster accent actually sounds really deep and intimidating.
John Oliver always gives me chandler vibes 😂😂😂
From Friends ? Where do you get that from?
Chandler with more confidence ^^
@@KieranHunter The sarcastic humor
I totally agree! They are hilarious!
Love the split three ways of this one interview. Even more I loved the omission of the part numbering.
They are so good!😂😂
Excellent interview with John Oliver!
Thoroughly loved this 😂❤
I only made it to 8 with the first wife, but the second one is on 19, and has only tried to increase my life insurance once, so... fingers crossed for 20!
How recently was the increase? 😉
Someone really should consider giving these two a podcast
Loves me some John Oliver!
Love these two gentlemen!!
John Oliver all night!? Works for me!
I like when late night hosts get together-Stephen, John, Seth and Trevor should all do this sometime.
I just love when the Jon's come to visit
I could listen to John all day. I'd probably pay to hear him read a dictionary.
Americaninparis. We used to say I love that person so much I'd pay to hear them read the phone book and now you are going to ask me what is a phonebook. Nevermind, dictionary is just as good although the phone book can be more mundane. I'd listen to Oliver read traffic signs.
@@jschuler53 hehe. it's been so long since I've seen a phone book, I forgot the proper idiom. Good point indeed.
@@Americaninparis2012 I've literally had young persons ask me what a phonebook is; ringdial phone, and party line, console tv and lots of other things they SHOULD know but are clueless. I blame THE PHONE.
How refreshing is it to see two male comedians who actually seem to LIKE the women they are married to!
Good shit.
this is such an awesome and hilarious story lmao
I remember from his UK comedy career before he went Stateside. He was really funny then, often appearing on panel shows and so on.
......no, he wasn't (matter of opinion I suppose) as a stand up he was bordering on dire......but in his present show he's tremendous. A nice guy by all accounts so good luck to him....
@@panchopuskas1 thought he was decent on Mock the Week, but he definitely developed on the Daily Show
But like you said, it's matter of opinion
Just dont understand how someone so intelligent and well informed can stand to live in the US and become a citizen ????
@@annemettefrederiksen7751 Maybe because he IS so intelligent and well-informed that he doesn't write off a whole nation based on uninformed, biased and clichéd views.
@@MTMF.london The nation is literally on the brink of a civil insurrection part 2 and most of my american colleagues are planning on staying despite not planning to do so originally..I like the US, I love it as a playground for adults and then back to sanity and my socialist hellhole with free medical care and education
I want to hear more about John's time with Jim
“I’m not built for this life, Jim” ...but the pregnant secretary he replaced apparently was.
If it was anybody else I'd think they were making it up...
John Oliver should host an episode of SNL. I have spoken.
Blimey, they really gave him a glow-up for that book cover.
👍🏻
That story about the London gangster was better than anything Guy Ritchie ever came up with.
Now I’m wondering which is worse, finding out your husband is running for President from a TV broadcast (Pres Zelenskyy’s wife Olena), or finding out you’re engaged from a Fresh Air episode (John Oliver’s wife Kate). 😂
i swear to god if i ever hear JO fooled us all i'm done watching any tv and shows. forever.
I remember John telling this story with Seth Meyers. I'm not saying I thought it was a bit, then, but... I'm glad to hear it again.
The Terry Gross interview was apparently on Jan 5th, 2010 and can be found in the Fresh Air archives. Unfortunately, RUclips won't let URLs be posted.
10 minutes in for the Question? ;)
Will you ever post these in order?
right?
they should post the interview in one extended clip like other talk show channels. or at least put Part 1, Part 2, etc. on the title. i've complained about this a few times on the comments, but i guess the channel admin just doesn't care.
This conversation needs to be regular content
He told this on Fallon 4 years ago 😂😂 love it still.
John was excellent in the Green Mile. It's a very clever British hospital comedy from the early naughts and must be one of his first jobs in show biz
Green Wing, but yeah that show was bizarre and hilarious!😝
Steven needs his own sit down style podcast like Joe Rogan so he can talk to all his friends.
This is so funny 🤣!
I love that Stephen said Duke Nukem 😂
Official request to have Stephen Colbert and John Oliver do the 2024 election night(s) special live together?.
And all this time I thought John Oliver’s wife was Wanda Jo. It’s kind of disappointing to find out that her name is actually Kate.
DUKE NUKEM!? 😂
I appreciate you know the reference, Colbie, but 🤣.
Please do a podcast together
My grandson, like many young people, thinks that he is going to be a YT millionaire. Never mind his lack of skills at almost anything at age 17, he's sure of his success. So, I asked him what he would do to 'feed the cat' if YT was slow in picking him up? Feeding the cat is important because the cat cares not one whit what you do to earn your living or pay the rent/mortgage. She wants there to be food in her dish, and it is your responsibility to put it there no matter if you eat or not. John Oliver's stint at answering phones for a London gangster fed the cat. Many of us have taken jobs that may perhaps be below where we thought we ought to be while the world waited for us to become real wage earners. But the cat must be fed.
That was the wildest story out of left field. He kinda admittedl participating in crime too..oop
@DHOTYA 😂🤣😅
From London.
John covering maternity should be a TV series on its own. HBO or Netflix? Anyone?
John was great tonight but let's get real, that cowboy hat wearing cutie pie, Joe, is just adorable! I still love Jon Batiste and Louis Cato but Joe is just precious. I like how y'all brought him up front tonight! 💓
I like how Stephen still remembers Duke Nukem
Rare Duke Nukem reference! Respect! Hail to the king, baby!
I just need to know these two are friends that meet up irl around a campfire just chatting lol
