I liked Chretien too, didn't care for Turner, Clark , Campbell and Paul Martin. I was too young during P Trudeau, so relying on history i guess some yes some no - kinda like Harper and Chretien .
We as voters need to cast out our pre-conceived notions of left and right , and just listen to the arguments and vote accordingly for the best person . We are lucky that we don't have an extreme Left or Right movements in Canada , we should not feel bad about flipping between the two or three, for the best outcome. J Trudeau , well .... he has disappointed me and let me down so far . The Trade talks with the US was good I liked the way he handled it but he needs more of that

He is actually an Economist, that is why he was successful as a prime minister! he could understand finances.
And Trudeau, a supply Drama Teacher??? what a heck he understands? pretending to be? photo-ops and popularity? Exactly! for him this whole political-carrier is nothing more than theater!
And finances? economics? well, that's something else! he doesn't have clue how to manage money, not even his own, not alone other people's money, or a countries:
Let me explain with a short statement: when his father, Pierre Trudeau was dying, he summoned their family lawyer, and appointed that lawyer as his son's (Justin Trudeau's) LIFE-LONG trustee!
That's means; after Pierre Trudeau's death, Justin Trudeau inherited a set amount of money (lot of money!), but Justin has NO access to his own inheritance! his father, Pierre Trudeau made sure of that.
Justin Trudeau ONLY has a monthly allowance, a set amount of money (still a lot of money), that the trustee is giving him, and not a cent more! How much money? Pierre Trudeau set that amount, and the trustee strictly follows that instruction.
    Now, a big question to ALL CANADIANS;
IF, Pierre Trudeau could not trust his own son, Justin Trudeau, with the inheritance, ... did not trust his own son that he could and would manage his inherited money wisely, without going bankrupt and ending up in a poor-house or on the street, why did ANY Canadian think that he is the right man to manage our finances, the finances and the economy of this nation, of this country???!
Justin Trudeau is an adult man, he is married with a wife, have children, YET, his dying father treated him as a little child, who CANNOT be trusted with money, he has to be appointed with a lifelong trustee, who will manage his monthly allowance to him, and other financial dealings! Shouldn't THAT be a warning signs for Canadians when considering him as a Prime Minister???! or did we just go insane?
I mean, I did NOT vote on this clown, but many Canadians, the majority of Canadians did. They had to, unless our election was rigged. How else can you explain that he became the prime minister?
Yes, indeed, I miss Prime Minister Harper too! he was expert on finances, he was an economist, he understood market, he run this country well. I still can't warp my mind around it that he lost the last election, and that he lost competing with this rainbow-unicorn trudop.
Mr. Harper was doing immigration wisely, safely, and reasonably! he was NOT apologetic toward tyrannic leaders, he did NOT appease terrorists, he wasn't politically-correct, and he wasn't afraid to call things on their proper names either. Oh, how I miss that era! today you have to tip-toe around everybody, be careful with your words in case you traumatize the over-sensitive and you might end up with a huge law-suite, or even a jail-sentence. Today your speech are controlled, your body language is controlled, even your thoughts are "assumed" and controlled!
Today, under the Liberal government, and under this drama-queen prime minister everything is all about re-patrioting terrorists, gender-fluidity, gender-prouns, "people-kind", "potato-kinds", trannies, and other misfits of society, and about everybody else from the 3rd world, but Canadians! Appease the elites, bow down to dictators, and no room left for the Canadian working class or the average Canadian citizen. And let's not even mention, how much care he has towards our veterans! we all know it, "the money run out, we can't pay their retirement...", after all, Trudeau's "welcome to Canada" message costs us millions, since we have to house 3rd word migrants (illegal migrants) in expensive hotels. Not even motels outside of the city, but in 5 star hotels right in the center of downtown!
Stephen Harper was prime minister for this country for 8 years, he accomplished a lot. If he would stay another 4 in the prime minister seat, this country would be very different today, perhaps better than America in the 1950s!
But what do we have instead? electing Liberals instead of the Conservatives. Poverty, unemployment, ever rising taxes (after all, many thousands of immigrants per year, cost a lot for this country), and what else? praying daily and hoping that we're still having a country at the fall of 2019, when we finally getting to the next election.
(one last thought: anyone still considering voting on Liberals???, if the answer is "yes", urgently book yourself in to the nearest mental-ward clinic with the best psychiatrist! you'll need it!)

Harper did a good job,, do you remember the 2008 world wide recession that we in Canada hardly felt a thing. I have been in mortgage financing for 30+ yrs and the industry hardly slowed down. This was because of his excellent financial management of our economy and banks from all around the world started to take note of what he was doing and started to implement a similar system. Now with the Turd the industry is crashing and we have had so many new regulations, some of which were good but some not, that it has gotten very difficult for normal people to get financed. I can’t wait for this Oct to vote him out.

    • @pattim861

Hogwash!! We here in Canada hardly felt a thing because of the regulatory regime of our banking system, something that was in place long before the dark era of Harper. And what seems to be a very little known fact was that Harper pushed for DEREGULATING our banking system, back when he was President of the National Citizens Coalition and Opposition Leader in the House. It was Then-Finance Minister Paul Martin that blocked that from becoming a reality. Funny how people have tuned all that out in their quest to paint him as the saviour of Canada, when his goal was to turn us into the 51st State. No thanks.

People started feeling uncomfortable in the mid-70's when the women's movement was taken over by the Feminist movement, but it made a certain amount of sense, owing to its roots, and despite the creep. The mid-to-late 1980s is where Feminism made a deal with, then consumed the gay rights movement and ramped up the postmodernism and pseudo-marxism. The early 1990s is where those in Academia and the activists grew old enough to infiltrate media, corporations and then finally the government. Since they, they've broken the backbone of the limits of the average person's life experience. What we now call "populism" is merely the common person calling bullshit on an ideology that has long past pushed beyond the line of simple human decency and good, hard, empirically testable reality, otherwise known as "common sense." Uncontrolled immigration is merely a fifth-tier symptom of an spineless, thus ideological upper-middle income class seeking to appease their vanity on the backs of the working poor and the striving to middle-class.

This is an interesting interview. We appreciate the history of Mr. Harper in the political landscape of Canada; in some parts he is an example of how a western Canadian can save the country. Most of our PM's have hailed from the east, and most of those living in the east have zero concept of what living in the west means. He attempts to define populism, which is appreciated, as we sometimes think it's a good thing, which it is. What is not good is that a populist party - Reform/PC = Alliance, failed to uphold their own Supreme Court's direction to make a law concerning abortion. Instead they have for 30+ years, let the ruling of the courts stand on the books as if that was done by the Parliament. It is this one immense failure of the Parliament of Canada to act for the unborn that has defined the current state of Canada. It was the last straw for many Canadians.
Judicial Activism has resulted in the lives of millions of children being ripped from their mother's wombs, in the name of "reproductive rights", the despair and depression that has gripped the lives of women and men and grandparents as a result of that action, has cost billions in mental health and even loss of fertility for many women. The rise of the righteous population who demanded reinstatement of a law and the equivalent rise of voices from a far left that wanted the right to kill babies is drowned out by a prime minister who refuses to have the debate prescribed by the Supreme Court.
The Canadian House of Parliament has become a puppet of the unelected judiciary by failing to reinstate a law preventing abortion on demand. If thirty plus (30+) years has not changed Canada, continuing to "not have the debate" in the House Parliament is proof that the middle class is not being heard. Not having the debate in 2019 will for certain impact Canada, and not to its benefit, rather to its detriment. If Mr. Scheer continues with the charade to not have the debate, we are no farther ahead with the Conservative Party today, which has apparently also now removed the Supremacy of God from their constitution (as if it as a party is above it's own country's Constitution) and instead seeks to be a voice of its own. Well, it's not gong to really end well, I can tell. I can see no meaningful future for Canada if these two mainstream parties do not pick up the mantle and protect the unborn. If we must spend the next 30 years screaming at the government to stop killing babies we are no better than any other totalitarian government that measures a woman by her ability to contribute her energies to make the GDP of her nation look better, and somehow by doing so ensure she has a pension in her old age, and forces them to abort their children in that crass and ungodly action, in the name of affordability and convenience or broad term "health". Everything has changed for women, but nothing has changed.
We Need a Law. We need actually principles in Government. We need a lot more than populism, and if we want to use it, it better be used for the good of the people, including the unborn. The Canadian people deserve to have a tax system that does not strip them of their rights in the process. The income tax is immoral, as it removes our power as citizens to control the actions of the government.

The best purpose of immigration is to educate the uneducated masses from across the pond, and then send back as many educated people to facilitate change back in those countries. The bigger challenge is to ensure that newly immigrated people are not put in positions of power in Canada until they have come around to better understand what they left and what they have come into. It's dangerous for instance for people from unstable countries to come to Canada, which is relatively stable in the area of government and employment, and try to change Canada into a country to depends on slave labour for the sake of employing people with no skills.

I think the major problems with Canada is inflation, the loss of jobs, the loss of strong farming base, and production of food and garments made here. The only things that should be imported are things that cannot be grown or made here. Such as fresh produce out of season. Production of garments in Canada, means that you have garments that work for Canadians in Canada. Companies leaving Canada to hire cheaper labor and produce cheaper clothing has lead to a lot of waste. Much of what is imported isn't needed.

However, this is a good fit for him, The conservative movement deserves an articulate and educated individual to describe the right. Today, most right wing politicians are just corporate goons or outright loons, as a centrist, I'd like to see more conservatives speaking the way he is.

' - and the most real-life benefit can be gained by getting gvmt out of people's private voluntary economic and trading interactions that harm nobody - leave people alone in their private lives that harm nobody, and let people choose freely how to run their own businesses as long as it harms nobody -
... and, seriously, who and how many people are really running their businesses by harming others??!?

Martin left a budget surplus and Harper blew it. Can't think of one thing Harper did that left the country in a better place. OK, he renamed the defense department to ROYAL Canadian airforce. I wonder how much it cost to repaint everything with royal. Everyone who is 65> remembers that he raised the old age benefits to 67.

Now, we have bad economy and lost freedom of speech and Canadian citizens being divided by nonsense label war (rooted from chinese culture revolution!!) . sorry, sorry, sorry, i voted harper out. for those long term liberals, liberty is not pure emotion, liberty is freedom for both sides, give the opposite side a chance, listen to the opposite side and find out the truth. Self balancing budgets, virtue signalling as a way of life, never answering a question, accusing those you disagree with of racism, socks, taking more time off than any other sitting Prime Minister EVER, a guy that even his own father did not trust as an adult to run his finances- yes, let’s equate an uneducated choice for a guy who can hardly speak and use that as a measure of intelligence. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Multiculturalism has always been a replacement system. FORCED onto ONLY Western countries. Japan is still filled with Japanese CULTURE and Japanese people. WHY are Western European Christian built countries being FORCED to flood their countries with the world and the world's culture???? DO THE MATH!!! Europeans will become a minority in their own countries, that their ancestors built. The DALAI LAMA has told the Swedish MSM that Sweden belongs to the Swedish people, and that the migrants need to be cared for and then they MUST be sent back to rebuild their OWN countries.
