As one that did not vote for him I can anecdotally disagree, however I know I am an outlier. I do believe however that the issue is far greater than just the women that reactionarily voted for "the hair". It's the infantalizing of society in general and the feminization of young men. Boys are being raised feminist, that natural masculine traits are toxic, and to "be more like girls". There was a huge push in the 90s of the theory that if parents raised their boys as they would girls, the world would become a kinder, more gentle world. Fast forward to today, those boys have become weak and dependent men, easily swayed by authority. The result? Utter acceptance of valuing safety over personal responsibility and freedoms. This also leads to men that cannot stand up to the chaos of the female and cowtow to feminine whims.

He seems to be a lot more comfortable in front of the camera, and a lot more human and animated than when he was PM. He seems to be a lot more relaxed.
That might be because the Canadian media were constantly trying to “get him”. I remember when the CBC ran a critical story of Harper dropping off his young teenage son at school and giving him grief for shaking his sons hand and not giving him a hug. It never occurred to the CBC goons that maybe Harper’s teenage son didn’t want to be on camera hugging his dad in front of his friends while being dropped off at school. That is the kind of garbage Harper had to face day after day. Contrast that with the cover up that the CBC does for Trudeau on a daily basis. It is disgusting.
I agree. But I also sympathize because imagine the stress levels a truly intellectual person must feel being in the spotlight like that. Even my ass is awkward being high as balls trying to find my bus pass lol

Canada was on its way to a speculative housing market, but things blew up in the GFC before we got too carried away (0% mortgages, 40 year amortizations, etc.) In other words...dont give the government too much credit, we were just slower to head down the wrong path. In large part our financial system was propped up by the fact that we have only 6 major banks, and they are able to set housing prices by the amount of credit they are willing to give (within OSFI regulations).

Harper isnt tryig to preserve the west. He's trying to frame his narrow personal ethnic and religious definition of west... which ironically is anti-west.
“Western politics” see here’s the issue. Harper didn’t take into account the needs and wants of all of Canada. He just seemed to care more for the West rather than all of Canada, and that’s part of the reason he didn’t get many votes and lost to the joke that is Trudeau.

Harper was a decent prime minister for Canada. The Yankees had a good relationship with Canadians. Most American countries had a good relation with Canada. Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador and many other American countries had a great relation with Canada. I wish Harper came back as Canada's prime minister.
"Harper was a decent prime minister for Canada." No he wasn't. He massively drove up canada's debt during prosperous times when he could have been reducing it to save up for a rainy day. He also damaged Canada's global image of a peacekeeper neutral pluralistic nation with his militant "western civilization" and "judeo-Christian values" rhetoric (parroting Republicans in the US).

Made 5 promises, kept 4. Reduced the Goods and Services tax. Used the same healthcare system as the rest of us, unlike all other leaders. Zero scandals. Fostered kittens. Jammed weekly with his friends. Now he's an internationally recognized thought leader. Balanced the budget (they HATED him for that). Began paying down the national debt. In the best interests of conservatism, when he amalgamated the two conservative parties, despite him being the more recognized leader, he offered to take the back seat, just to get conservatives united. Literally just telling my mom how refreshing it was to sit and listen to someone speak about opposing views with such class. The man had an opportunity to crush Trudeau and took the high road instead. I miss this. I didn’t realize how much. When did this disappear from our world?
Yeah... We got what we deserve.

He seems to be a lot more comfortable in front of the camera, and a lot more human and animated than when he was PM. He seems to be a lot more relaxed.
Not having people on your case and under pressure will do that to you
That entire narrative was a leftist smear job, stop believing that lie
This is true of all ex leaders, IMO. Preston Manning also comes to mind.

Jim Flaherty was one of the best finance ministers of all time under Harper. The reason why we were anle to recover after 2008 crash.
Canada didnt have the massive speculation in the housing market, deregulation of financial institutions and already had a higher home ownership percentage comparative to the US.
Canada was on its way to a speculative housing market, but things blew up in the GFC before we got too carried away (0% mortgages, 40 year amortizations, etc.)
In other words...dont give the government too much credit, we were just slower to head down the wrong path. In large part our financial system was propped up by the fact that we have only 6 major banks, and they are able to set housing prices by the amount of credit they are willing to give (within OSFI regulations).

I don't agree with everything he said but I opened the video expecting to hear MTG-like diatribe. I saw many links to this interview denouncing it as all kinds of bad things but all I'm seeing is a surprisingly thoughtful discussion.
Never listen to the agenda of the CBC....
No “news” factions should be funded by government (tax payer) funds.

The CBC is fueled by Liberal idealism.
