I had a ACL tear back in 94. I had it surgically repaired from a doctor Ironically witch his name is Dr. Dr. i'm from wisconsin. I do not have full range of motion. I am very physically fit... and take care of my body. i've been working on stretches and anything that I can find off of RUclips. so I guess the next thing I should do is see the doctor and see if I need a scope? I listened to what you guys had to say and it was some useful information I appreciate it. I still do not get full range of motion and cannot touch my heel to my butt only on my left knee which I had an ACL tear there's a lot of tightness in there as well. I stretch for 10 to 15 minutes every single day. and work out for two hours a day. if there's anything else you can tell me it would be much appreciated

My question is how long after a surgery does improvement still remain viable? At week 16-32 are the days of reasonable progress fade away? At years 1-3 are patients able to make substantial gains? I have 135 at week 16.

Same question almost over a year post surgery, can't make my heel touch my butt. Knee feels more still than it was at 6-8 months. On my part I was prepping for a exam couldn't focus on exercising/stretching regularly. Fair share of blame on me too. Even during 6-8 months it was painful to get that final 10-20° of flexion, considering at that point I was religiously doing them everyday!

I have a full ACL tear but I can walk and go up stairs, train gym at home to make my knee muscles stronger, walking in pool water and jog without having any pain. Do I need surgery? İf my knee is stable why I should do that? And what the long term consequences will be if I leave my ACL as it is , will I face arithis or not ?, but I don't do running, football, ... other Risky supports, I just do my work at office which is working on laptop. Thanks in advance.

I had the same situation. I had been training my knee with comoletely torn acl for 6 years. My quads were massive and strong though I had stopped sprinting and sports cos of lateral instability and obviously it was prone to twisting and dislocation injuries (6 times in last 10 years). Now im 26 years old and finally had acl reconstruction 3 months ago cos I had found out that i had torn meniscus and cartilage which will definitely lead to osteoarthritis despite the surgery. The surgery is important if you have an active lifestyle and you are prone to get the same injury again cos your knee SHOULD NOT be injured any more or there is going to be irreversible damage.

If you're planning to remain active, the lack of an acl is just making your knee move around more than in should which puts far more wear and tear on your menisci. This leads to early arthritis in the knee. If you're planning on slowing down over the next 5 years, then I'd say it's not worth it, especially if you're over 45.

hello, I wanted to ask if you have had cases where even after a year after the operation the patient does not have flexion, I even had 2 manipulations under anesthesia and I still have no movement, I can flex passively (with great pain) but it is not active, always returns to the initial 100°, after the second manipulation there was a sharp pain in the ankle joint that extends to the entire fibula (sorry for my bad english)the position of the tunnel and graft was checked and everything is fine

Im 4 months post op on hamstring graft acl replacement and i havent gotten back full flexion. It took me 9 weeks to get to 90 degrees flexionand then i was gaining about an inch a week for the past 2 months. I had about 6 to 8 inches of flexion left to gain last monday. Someone pushed on my leg relatively hard while i was prone and flexed. I felt a bad sharp pain and now i have lost flexion. My leg feels more unstable and gives out on me randomly when im walking now. It hurts at full extention now and clicks and pops alot. Its been almost a week now and the swelling has gone down but still hurts and feels loose. Most of the pain is in the rear of my knee. Do you think the graft could have been damaged or stretched? Or do i have nothing to worry about?
