What’s amazing about Morgan Freeman’s character is that after seeing the majority of the world die horribly at the hands of Tom Cruise clones and fighting the Tet for years for simple survival, he still has enough humanity to watch Tom Cruise and wonder “what if?” And that act of faith saves the planet from slavery.
That "Welcome back, commander" is the saddest thing. Apparently Jack was a hero back in his time, and it took this long to get him back, with so much damage in between.
This is such brilliant acting! Poor Jack finds out he's been used as a mass murderer and tool. Such great acting, goes from haunted and shocked to determined, he even registers surprise and gratitude and pride when Beech addressing him by Rank, "Welcomes" him back! Morgan Freeman starts off almost too tired to be sad anymore, and then picks up to hopefully defiant. I could watch this over and over a hundred times!
Yeah, so good. Commander Harper has gotta be feeling a wide range of emotions throughout the monologue, but he's focused on the mission and, in a way, his redemption.
"Then one day I saw you set down. Another drone to fix. But in the rubble that day was a book. You picked it up. You studied it. And I thought I saw a way. When you stepped in front of that drone and saved her? (motions to Julia) I knew. You were in there... somewhere. I just had to find a way to bring you back."
Wasn't that book. It was seeing his wife. He knew then. As he dreamed her often..Why the other women got angry. She was jealous. As she was cloned with those same feelings. And she wanted revenge. Her jealousy cost her life.. Well that one clones life. The rest still exist..
Morgan’s narration is great, along with the rising music. But what makes the scene for me are the reaction shots. From Tom: shock, disbelief and shame, changing to stoic determination. From the surrounding crowd: tentative hope and awe- to them Tom has changed from an instrument of death to a superhero. From Olga: love and pride. I strive to have a woman look at me the way Olga beams at him at the end. That’s someone who’s ready to battle hell with you and she’s fine as long as she’s by your side.
I'm don't really know what to say about Tom Cruze and his relationship with Scientology....but I do love the movies he has stared in. Oblivion is one of my favorite movies and this is one of my favorite scenes from the movie. I actually think with the acting, the sets, the compelling story and haunting music that this film is a masterpiece.
First time I watched this on the surround I started tearing up, the music, monologue from Morgan and the whole scene hit me for some reason…..still don’t know why??
Malcolm Beech : I would love to be there, to see that thing's face, when this goes off. Jack Harper-49 : That would be a one-way trip. Malcolm Beech : Yeah, but it would be worth it.

Do you know what I like about this scene that no one’s talks about? It’s that Malcom assures Jack that it doesn’t matter that he’s a clone he’s as important as the real Jack Harper and assures him that he embodies the original Jack Harper’s spirit. Jack was already insecure knowing that he’s not the real Jack technically but he embodies much of his spirit so in a way he is the real Jack Harper

"most people just starved" the emotion put into that delivery was amazing
One of the best narrators ever. What a great scene in a great movie.
BigTulsa Truly one of the best. March of the Penguins alone clearly shows that.
You can’t lose with a Morgan monologue. But Toms stoic demeanor in this scene is so powerful tho.

Nobody gonna talk about the incredible music in this scene? Raven Rock is a masterpiece!
"Not it's not. It's just a machine. I'm the weapon."
Chills man. Chills.
Love Olga Kurilenko's sight of pride to her spouse
I've played this exact scene over and over. The music, the way they both interact, and to finish it......"Welcome back, Commander"
Soul0Stealer Just a PERFECT scene. So glad I found this clip
Not to mention Olga's reaction in the end. Proud of her man.
So flawless
A great scene. From a truly great movie. Destroyed by liberal critics.
@@andreas956what does "liberal" have to do with this lol

Love the score to this movie. This track is called Raven Rock the soundtrack.
Seriously the score itself is such good listening in its own right.
The great scene of the great film. All actors made it unforgettable.
The masterpiece.

There's no one else in the world who could have told this story with as much feeling as Morgan Freeman....he almost makes me believe he lived it!
He also narrated March of the Penguins.
This movie is awesome. Thoughtful, emotional and very UNDERRATED.

Was it ever revealed , what happened to the original jack
Probably killed in some way maybe like assimilation or something similar.
In my theory, Commander Jack was abducted and presumed killed alongside with Victoria then cloned by Tet
He was captured and clone on the first reconassaince mission to the tet.
movie name?
Oblivion
One tom cruise per sector
This isn't Command & Conquer...
God help. God bless the firm. Nature gods bro son. You.. foxy. b. Az. Selah
