This is the best version of this song in my opinion it's better than the album and the movie version sung by daltrey. Pete really sells this song vocally and on guitar in this performance it's perfect
I think the live version of "Tommy" is still better than the recorded versions. I just listened to Tommy, and parts of the album was a bit restrained on the guitars, but Keith did a great job keeping the album alive.
I wonder why they opted not to perform this on the incredible "LIve At Leeds"? This is such a great song. The underrated great tune from Tommy in fact. Any clues as to why they would cut this song ever? (Let alone on the greatest live album in history?)
I'm searching a clip with this song and the scene from the film with the rocker gang and Tommy flying a kite, think I saw it once but can't find it now
There's so much I hate about this gig and this clip - Pete's ponytail, Roger's clip-on earrings - but I've never heard Pete sing better than he does during this song. Love, Billy
A very underrated song - so sonic and uplifting....
No one cares that he used a word twice. He wrote the song after all, so he gets to do whatever he wants with it. It's a great underrated song.
He forgot the lyric it was make your lungs hold breath inside. Even with the mistake I still think it's better than the original

This is such a good song. Little known except for Tommy Aficionados.
Pete Townshend is a sensation.
The whole Tommy (1969) album is a sensation!
the Film isn't too good has a few moments, I like the soundtrack played by the Who is brilliant ! love this song.

Has Pete ever sang better? Love, Billy
'Love as one...'
Love that double bass 4 stroke ruff that Simon injects at 1:48-1:49. Even Pete acknowledges it right after.
Well spotted. Great stuff.
This is an awesome version! Although I didn't know my breath could hold ITS breath...:-) (JK.)

My thoughts exactly.

Ah yeah I heard it now.
What a great performance! What concert is this from?
The Tommy live tour from the Universal amphitheater in 1989, it’s available on dvd. It’s a fantastic show, they do all the hits at the end.
he says, 'make your breast hold breath inside'
Townshend is the superior Who vocalist IMO. I mean, I love Daltry, but let this man... singing the lyrics he wrote.... simply lovely!
He's over by Simon Phillips who is drumming.

89 was a rough year for everybody stylistically...I close my eyes and listen to the music and band.
Pete biffed the first verse lol
