Completely agree, we had a chat earlier about having plants from the same place as the reptile. I ordered seeds from plants from the desert my reptiles are from. Sonoran desert themed collection for me.
Coming from being more familiar with fishkeeping, I was quite surprised that recreating biotopes hadn't taken off in the same way with reptile keepers (like Amazonian or East Asian paddy field aquascaping did). I see a lot of people going naturalistic or bioactive but more of a tendency to use a mishmash of jungle-y or desert-y plants and rocks from all over in vivariums.
I agree, it’s very strange. I think the fish keeping hobby is far ahead of the reptile hobby in many ways (on a technological and practical level). It’s a strange phenomenon, it seems like in the fish keeping hobby the high-level keepers are revered and celebrated and in the reptile hobby it’s the complete opposite 🤷🏼
I was blown away by his collection upon checking out his channel and his level of care is incredible and what everyone should strive to achieve. He really sets the bar for a standard of care. Enjoyed this podcast as usually 😊
This is so exciting! I'm from belgium and I didn't know about this channel. Immediatly subscribed I hope I like his videos ^^ He sounds like the guy I like to learn from :)
Easily maintaining a cold room is a crazy concept to me, since it's a struggle to keep my house at 65° F. Where I live it's an average of 90-100° F every. Day. During the summer. At least our winter isnt so bad! That being said, desert species are common pets here XD
Also, thanks to your podcast I went I discovered that the invertebrates I keep usually experience light rainfall/wetness in the evening and night, so I started misting them a little bit every night when the sun goes down and since then I've noticed they've been way more active! (+ warmer weather is making them perk up.)
Ya it’s definitely tough to fight against the climate that you live it (I struggled with humidity like crazy during the winter)! That’s awesome news about your inverts 😊 I’m glad they seem to enjoy a little “rain”
Hoera! Hiep hiep aan onze Noorderburen! Weet niet of Stefan in de comments kijkt maar ik kijk ernaar uit om je videos te bekijken. Nog Nederlandstaligen hier?

You should interview Frank Payne as well from living art. He is a breeder with an emphasis on natural keeping. He is a wealth of knowledge.
I’ve added him to my list, thanks for the recommendation!
